To run a 24/7 exam revision channel, send a continuous feed of your recorded lessons to YouTube Live using an encoder. The encoder can run on a computer, dedicated hardware, or in the cloud. First enable live streaming on your channel, prepare a rights-cleared lesson sequence, connect the encoder with YouTube’s stream URL and key, then test the feed before making it public.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified and eligible to live stream, with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned launch. YouTube’s live-streaming requirements explain eligibility and restrictions.
- Recorded lessons and any accompanying media that you have permission to stream, including music, images, slides, textbook extracts, and third-party instructor material.
- An encoder: software on a computer, dedicated hardware, or a cloud service. YouTube explains the encoder setup and lists examples in its encoder streaming guide.
- A plan for monitoring the stream, updating lesson files, and restoring service if the feed or connection stops.
Choose how to keep the channel running
The right route depends on whether you want to operate a computer yourself, use a dedicated device, or avoid keeping equipment at home. YouTube’s encoder list is a set of options, not an endorsement or guarantee of uninterrupted service.
| Route | What YouTube documents | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo cloud service | StreamNeo keeps an uploaded-video YouTube stream running from the cloud; the creator uploads a recording or playlist and adds the YouTube stream key. | No home computer needs to remain on. Review the storage included per slot and choose a billing period that fits your plans. |
| Software encoder on a computer | YouTube identifies software encoders and lists OBS as open-source software at no charge. | Your computer, power, and internet connection must be available; setup skill, scheduling, and recovery also matter. |
| Dedicated hardware encoder | YouTube lists hardware encoders and describes AJA HELO Plus functionality for scheduled prerecorded-media streaming. | Check current device availability, purchase cost, media and scheduling workflow, storage, monitoring, and support. |
| Other cloud streaming service | YouTube lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded-video streams. | Compare current price, file limits, scheduling, recovery, data handling, geographic availability, support, and export options. |
If you use software or hardware, follow that encoder’s current setup instructions as well as YouTube’s. For a cloud service, confirm its current capabilities and terms directly; YouTube’s listing does not establish its uptime or service guarantees.
Set up a continuous feed from recorded lessons
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, open Create and select Go live. Complete any verification or activation steps shown. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time enablement, and confirm there are no live-stream restrictions on the channel.
- Build and check the lesson sequence. Arrange the lessons in the intended order and label them clearly so a student joining midstream can identify the subject and lesson. Check that each recording and embedded element is cleared for streaming. Prepare the sequence in your encoder or cloud service; the exact playlist controls vary by product.
- Create or schedule a YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, select Go live and create or schedule the stream. For an encoder workflow, choose the appropriate streaming setup and note the broadcast details. YouTube’s technical model distinguishes the incoming feed from the individual broadcast video.
- Connect the encoder. Copy the YouTube server URL and stream key into the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it unnecessarily, and replace it if it is exposed. Keep the correct YouTube broadcast selected for the feed.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Start sending the lesson feed, then confirm in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room that the expected video and audio arrive and the correct broadcast is selected. Complete any prompts there to take the stream live.
- Rehearse before public launch. Use a private or unlisted test where appropriate. Check audio, image, lesson order, transitions or loop boundaries, what appears between items, stream health, and your recovery procedure after a dropped connection. These checks help catch setup errors; they do not guarantee uninterrupted operation.
- Monitor and maintain the channel. Assign someone to check stream health and chat if enabled, update the recordings and sequence, and know how to restart the feed. A 24/7 plan is an operating goal, not a promise of zero downtime.
How a separate Q&A can coexist with the 24/7 feed
YouTube’s Live Streaming API distinguishes a liveStream, which represents the incoming media feed and its settings, from a liveBroadcast, which represents a distinct YouTube video event. Google’s documentation, last updated September 14, 2026, describes a channel running a 24/7 feed while creating a separate interview broadcast that uses the same stream; ending the extra broadcast does not end the continuous feed. This can suit a revision channel that wants a separate Q&A event without treating it as another lesson in the ongoing loop. See Understanding Broadcasts and Streams for the API model.

Keep on-demand lessons separate
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not support promising one complete replay file from a 24-hour event. Keep the original lesson files, and upload them as ordinary videos or organize them into playlists when students need searchable on-demand access. The encoder guide explains the archive condition.
Copyright, platform rules, and monetization
YouTube’s live-streaming rules require streams to comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. YouTube may age-restrict or remove a stream, or restrict live access. Educational use by itself does not establish permission to use material: check the rights for every lesson and embedded element before streaming. Read YouTube’s live-streaming requirements and its linked policies.

Do not plan around guaranteed advertising income. YouTube’s encoder guide says channels in the YouTube Partner Program can monetize a live stream, but eligibility and settings apply; it does not make monetization automatic. The YouTube material available for detailed ad-slot guidance is not sufficiently direct to support more specific claims here.
