To stream a cave ambience video with dripping-water audio around the clock, send a looping video from an encoder to YouTube Live using the server URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio. First confirm your channel can go live and your upload connection can sustain the encoder’s total bitrate. The key limitation: YouTube warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured in its archive, so keep your own recording if you need a complete copy.
Before you start: check channel eligibility and rights
- Your YouTube channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- Use cave footage and dripping-water audio that you own or have licensed for the intended uses and territory. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions make you responsible for obtaining the necessary rights, including applicable music rights.
- Keep the original media files. You will need them if you have to rebuild the loop, restore a local recording, or troubleshoot a playback issue.
Set up the video and encoder
1. Prepare a continuous loop
Make a video file containing the cave scene and its dripping-water audio, or configure your encoder to repeat the media file. Check the transition from the end back to the beginning: abrupt cuts, silence, or a change in ambience can be noticeable when the sequence repeats. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not specify a required computer, processor, memory, or video-loop setting for this use case, so choose an encoder setup that can play your file reliably rather than relying on an unsupported minimum specification.
2. Create the stream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and enter the Live Control Room.
- Create a live stream or schedule one. Choose the visibility and other stream details appropriate for your channel.
- Copy the stream’s server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio into your software or hardware encoder. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes this connection.
- Keep the stream key private, like a password. Anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
YouTube supports software and hardware encoders, and its general streaming guidance says expensive equipment is not required. YouTube’s encoder directory also describes Gyre as a cloud-based service for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded video; that directory entry is not a guarantee of the service’s current price, reliability, or terms.

3. Check upload bandwidth
Compare the encoder’s total bitrate with the upload capacity actually available to it. YouTube recommends leaving 20% bandwidth headroom and notes that other people or devices sharing the connection can reduce the available capacity. Its streaming tips advise that the total stream bitrate must not exceed available upload bandwidth. If the feed buffers or drops frames, reduce the encoder’s bitrate or video demands, or move the encoder to a more capable connection; do not assume a speed-test result will remain available to the stream when the network is busy.

Test, launch, and monitor the broadcast
- Start the encoder and send its feed to YouTube, but check the incoming preview in Live Control Room before making the broadcast public.
- Confirm the cave picture is correct, the dripping-water sound is audible and at a suitable level, and the stream appears as expected on its watch page.
- Watch for audio or video problems and check that any local recording is being written and its file is growing. YouTube recommends testing the setup before streaming.
- When the preview is right, start the live broadcast in YouTube Studio if the workflow requires a separate go-live action. Keep monitoring the encoder, connection, and recording as the stream runs.
Plan for YouTube’s archive and viewer rewind limits
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A continuous 24-hour broadcast therefore does not come with a promise of a complete YouTube replay. YouTube recommends making a local archive backup; if preserving the whole broadcast matters, plan and verify your own recording, available storage, and restart workflow separately. The official guidance does not establish a particular storage amount or uninterrupted uptime for this setup.
Viewer rewind is also not guaranteed for a very long stream. YouTube’s DVR guidance says DVR can be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. Even when DVR is available, viewers cannot seek back to before the broadcast began, so do not promise that the full day will be rewindable.

Troubleshooting common problems
- YouTube does not allow the channel to go live: check verification and whether the channel has had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours.
- The preview does not show the encoder feed: check that the server URL and stream key were copied from the intended stream and entered correctly in the encoder. Keep the key private; if you believe it has been exposed, replace it through YouTube Studio before continuing.
- The picture or audio stutters: compare the total bitrate with available upload bandwidth, accounting for the 20% headroom YouTube recommends and other traffic on the shared connection. Reduce the stream’s demands or use a connection with more available upload capacity.
- The dripping-water sound is missing or too loud: inspect the source file and encoder’s audio input and levels, then confirm the result in the Live Control Room preview before launch.
- The YouTube replay is missing or incomplete: this can happen with streams exceeding 12 hours. Use the local recording as your backup rather than relying on YouTube to archive a continuous 24-hour stream.
- Viewers cannot rewind far enough: long-stream DVR may be limited or unavailable, and rewind cannot reach before the broadcast started. Set expectations accordingly.
