To stream Malayalam devotional videos in 4K at 60 fps with OBS, create a YouTube Live stream, connect OBS with its stream key, and configure OBS for 3840×2160 at 60 fps using a supported encoder and YouTube’s matching bitrate recommendation: 50 Mbps for H.264 or 35 Mbps for AV1 or HEVC. You also need a camera or video source, computer, and stable upload connection capable of sustaining that output. YouTube’s encoder guidance does not prescribe Malayalam-specific settings; the technical setup is the same for other languages.
Check that 4K60 is practical for your setup
OBS settings cannot make an unsuitable source, computer, or internet connection deliver a reliable 4K60 stream. Confirm that your camera or video source can output the intended resolution and frame rate, that your encoder supports the selected codec, and that your computer can encode while running the rest of the production. OBS cautions that 60-fps streaming can demand considerably more system capacity than 30 fps. A hardware encoder can reduce CPU workload, but its capabilities and output quality depend on the hardware generation.
- Source: Choose footage or a camera feed with the detail and motion the program needs. Upscaling lower-resolution footage to 4K does not create detail that was not captured.
- Computer and encoder: Test the complete OBS scene at the intended settings. Do not assume that a codec is supported just because OBS offers an encoder option.
- Upload: Test upload speed, not only download speed. YouTube recommends keeping available upload capacity above the stream bitrate, with about 20% headroom; other devices and network activity can consume that capacity.
- Audio: Make sure the intended devotional recording or live vocals are clear and that other inputs, such as desktop audio or an unused microphone, are not unintentionally audible.
For example, YouTube’s 50 Mbps H.264 video recommendation implies planning for about 60 Mbps of available upload capacity using its 20% headroom guidance. That calculation does not include capacity consumed by other simultaneous network use.
Choose the 4K60 video and audio settings
YouTube’s published live encoder guidance lists these recommended video bitrates for 2160p (4K) at 60 fps. The guidance page does not state a publication year.

Use the recommendation for the codec OBS is actually using; do not apply upload-video or another platform’s bitrate advice to this live stream. The lower AV1/HEVC target is useful only if your encoder and workflow support that codec. YouTube transcodes live input into different playback formats for viewers, so your encoder bitrate is not a promise that every viewer will receive a 4K60 picture.
- Rate control: Set CBR (constant bitrate).
- Keyframes: Use a two-second interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.
- Protocol: Use RTMP or RTMPS as configured for the YouTube stream.
- Audio: YouTube accepts AAC or MP3. Its stereo AAC recommendation is 128 kbps at 44.1 kHz.
- Color: For 4K SDR, use Rec. 709 and 8-bit. Do not enable HDR unless the source and encoder are configured for the complete HDR workflow.
Create the YouTube stream and connect OBS
- Prepare YouTube Live: In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. YouTube’s encoder workflow lets you enter a title and configure stream details. Use the stream URL and stream key shown for that event.
- Protect the stream key: In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter or connect the stream key using the available connection method. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or include it in a recording or screenshot. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Set the video output: In OBS, open Settings → Video. Set the output (scaled) resolution to 3840×2160 and the common FPS value to 60. Use these settings only if the source and system can sustain them.
- Configure encoding: In Settings → Output, select a supported encoder and set CBR, the matching bitrate from the table above, and a two-second keyframe interval. OBS labels can vary by encoder, so check the selected encoder’s controls rather than assuming every field appears with identical wording.
- Set audio deliberately: Select the intended microphone or audio source and verify its level in OBS. If using stereo AAC, configure 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz where those controls are available. Mute unused desktop or microphone inputs.
- Start and verify: Start streaming from OBS before the scheduled start time. Check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages, and listen for clipping, missing audio, or unintended sound before presenting the program.
YouTube normally detects resolution and frame rate automatically. If you use a custom stream key with manual resolution settings, make sure those settings agree with the actual OBS output.

Plan for latency and audience interaction
YouTube does not offer its low-latency option for 4K, so a 4K stream uses normal latency. That is generally suitable for a devotional program that does not depend on quick audience responses. If real-time back-and-forth matters more than 4K detail, consider a lower resolution and a latency option available for that stream. Lower latency can increase viewer buffering; normal latency prioritizes a steadier viewing experience.
Run a full preflight and prepare a fallback
Test the whole production before the event, using the same scene, audio, movement, and network conditions you expect during the broadcast. A still image test will not expose every problem that can appear with motion or live vocals.

- Start OBS and inspect the YouTube preview and stream-health indicators.
- Play the devotional audio or test the live vocal and microphone path. Confirm that the correct source is audible, levels do not clip, and unused sources are muted.
- Watch for dropped frames or encoding overload in OBS, and check whether the upload connection remains stable under the target bitrate.
- Keep a fallback OBS profile ready at a lower resolution, such as 1440p60 or 1080p60. YouTube publishes separate bitrate recommendations for these resolutions.
- If 4K60 is unstable, switch to the tested fallback rather than continuing with a stream that repeatedly drops frames or loses audio sync.
Troubleshoot common 4K60 problems

Check music and recording rights before going live
Confirm that you have the rights or permissions needed for every devotional recording, song, performance, and visual in the broadcast. A religious or devotional purpose does not itself establish permission to use a copyrighted recording. Review the rights holder’s terms and YouTube’s applicable copyright processes before streaming; the technical settings cannot determine whether a particular track is authorized.
