You can keep a YouTube channel streaming bhajans without putting the temple on camera: send the audio and an authorized still image, title card, or devotional graphic through a YouTube-compatible encoder. Prepare and test the channel, confirm rights to the exact music, and plan for monitoring and archive limits before starting a continuous broadcast.
What viewers see when the temple stays off camera
A camera is not required for this setup. Use a temple-approved still image, devotional illustration, simple title card, or authorized visual loop with the bhajan audio. YouTube supports encoder-based streams, including external audio and video sources; it does not prescribe a temple-specific still-image workflow. Inspect the actual preview before making the stream public.
Check the whole frame and any on-screen text or logos for information the temple does not want disclosed. A visual captured on the premises can reveal faces, entrances, security details, or location information even if the camera is not aimed at a worship service. Use only artwork and branding the temple has permission to display.

Enable live streaming in advance
YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. For a channel’s first livestream activation, YouTube says setup may take up to 24 hours, so complete this step well before the planned broadcast. Check current eligibility requirements at YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

Confirm permission for the exact music
The temple is responsible for securing the necessary rights to stream the music worldwide. Check rights for both the composition and the particular recording: a devotional song’s religious purpose does not itself grant permission, and a temple’s rights to a live performance may differ from its rights to a recording issued by a label or distributor. Keep written licenses or permissions available. Review YouTube’s Terms of Service and resolve any uncertainty with the relevant rights holder before broadcasting.
Set up the 24/7 stream
- Prepare the channel. Verify it and enable livestreaming early. Check that it meets YouTube’s current requirements and has no applicable live-stream restriction.
- Choose the visual and audio. Prepare the approved still, graphic, or loop and the audio source or playlist. Listen through the sequence and confirm the temple has permission to stream every track and recording.
- Create or schedule a stream in YouTube Studio. Select an encoder workflow and copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder. YouTube describes the key as the encoder’s password and address; keep it private, and reset it if someone unauthorized gets access. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Choose video settings that fit the visual and connection. YouTube’s published H.264 settings list 5 Mbps as the minimum and 14 Mbps as the recommended video bitrate for 1080p at 30 frames per second. Those are encoder video-bitrate figures, not a guarantee that a connection can sustain a stream. A simple static visual may not need the same settings as moving video; choose a supported setting, then test the actual feed. See YouTube’s encoder settings.
- Check upload capacity and leave headroom. YouTube recommends about 20% spare upload capacity beyond the stream’s total bitrate. Test upload speed on the connection that will carry the broadcast; advertised download speed does not establish upload capacity, and a shared connection can vary. Network interruptions can disrupt the stream. Consult YouTube’s network guidance.
- Preview and test before going public. Use representative audio and video, inspect the encoder preview and stream-health messages, and listen and watch on a phone as well as the channel or watch page. YouTube recommends monitoring sound and picture quality rather than assuming the encoder output is correct. Its streaming tips cover testing and monitoring.
- Set stream behavior deliberately. Choose privacy, latency, DVR, and auto-start and auto-stop settings for the event. If viewers are not interacting live, lower latency may offer little benefit and can increase playback buffering. Review the available controls in YouTube’s stream settings guidance.
- Start the encoder and verify the live player. Check that the stream appears as expected, that audio is playing, and that the visual does not reveal anything unintended. Keep the stream-health view available for whoever is monitoring the broadcast.
Plan for long-running operation and recordings
A 24/7 stream is an operational commitment, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service. Assign a person or documented process to check stream health, playback audio, network access, power, and local recording storage. Decide who can respond if the encoder, connection, or power fails. YouTube’s event checklist includes archive checks and backup-encoder readiness; adapt that discipline to the temple’s scale.

YouTube says livestreams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. A single continuous 24/7 broadcast exceeds that documented threshold, so do not rely on it becoming one complete automatic archive. If a complete recording matters, preserve local recordings, verify that files are growing, and check the live player while the stream is running. See YouTube’s livestream archiving guidance.

YouTube supports both software encoders running on a computer and standalone hardware encoders. A software encoder may be enough if an existing computer can be configured and monitored reliably. Dedicated hardware can make sense for a higher-production setup, but it is not a prerequisite; confirm current YouTube compatibility, sustained-operation suitability, restart recovery, and local support before buying a device. Compare the options against the volunteers’ ability to configure and recover the system, power and network resilience, and total cost.
