You can run a 24/7 piano-music radio channel on YouTube by sending a continuous prerecorded playlist through an encoder—software on a computer, dedicated hardware, or a cloud service. Before going live, enable live streaming, clear the rights for every recording and visual, test the full loop, and decide how you will handle outages and archives. For prerecorded music without a computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud option for YouTube.

What you need before starting

  • A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube Help, so enable it before your planned launch.
  • Permission for the piano recordings, underlying compositions, artwork, animation, and any other audio or visual material in the stream.
  • An encoder: software running on a computer, standalone hardware, or a cloud service for prerecorded content.
  • A reliable internet connection with upload capacity above the stream’s total bitrate, plus a plan for monitoring and recovering from interruptions.

Clear the music and visual rights first

Make an asset list covering each recording, the composition embodied in it, and all artwork or other media shown during the broadcast. Confirm that your permissions cover YouTube livestreaming and, if you want a replay, archived viewing. A track described as “royalty-free,” a license for a different use, or a file found online is not by itself proof that this particular use is cleared.

YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” This is YouTube’s contractual language, not individualized legal advice. Read the terms at YouTube’s Terms of Service.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If a match is detected, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder; continued use can lead to a temporary interruption or termination. If you have licensed material and its rights owner uses Content ID, ask the owner to allowlist your channel. YouTube warns that a licensed stream may still be interrupted if the channel has not been allowlisted. If the live stream is archived, a Content ID claim may also arrive after it ends. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Choose how to keep the stream running

Approach What stays running What to consider
Local software encoder Your computer and encoder software Offers hands-on control, but the computer, encoder, power, and internet connection need to remain available. You handle monitoring and recovery.
Standalone hardware encoder A dedicated encoder and its supporting network setup YouTube supports hardware encoders, but buying one is optional; the platform also supports software. You still need to manage the setup and interruptions.
Cloud service for prerecorded video The provider’s cloud system sends the stream Can avoid leaving a local computer running. Check the provider’s current pricing, recovery process, monitoring, service terms, and archive-session behavior rather than assuming these are guaranteed.

YouTube’s encoder guidance describes software and standalone hardware encoders and names Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos. That mention does not establish a provider’s uptime, pricing, rights clearance, or current availability. Choose based on how much equipment you want to operate yourself and who will be responsible for keeping the feed healthy.

Set up the YouTube stream and encoder

  1. Enable live streaming early. Check for live-stream restrictions and complete the channel’s activation steps in YouTube Studio. First activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave this until launch day. Use YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
  2. Create a live stream in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Choose the intended stream setup and locate the stream URL and stream key.
  3. Configure your encoder. Enter YouTube’s stream URL and key in the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or publish it, and reset it if it is exposed.
  4. Set compatible output settings. Use RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval. Select the bitrate for your intended resolution and frame rate using YouTube’s current encoder-settings table at YouTube’s recommended live encoder settings; do not assume one bitrate fits every format.
  5. Preview before going public. Start the encoder in test or preview mode and confirm that the Live Control Room receives the feed. Check stream health and listen to the audio while inspecting the video, including the transition between playlist items.
  6. Start the broadcast and monitor it. Verify the public watch page, audio level, picture, and stream-health indicators. Keep a way to detect a dropped feed and restart it, whether that is your own monitoring process or a provider’s recovery feature.

Prepare a true radio-style loop

Build and test the exact sequence you intend to broadcast. Confirm that the playlist advances correctly, playback does not stop at the end, volume is consistent, and any static image or animation can loop without exposing material you do not have rights to use. A stream can be technically connected while silent, frozen, or repeating an unintended segment, so check the actual outgoing feed rather than only the source files.

Plan sufficient upload capacity for the total configured stream bitrate. YouTube recommends about 20% upload bandwidth headroom beyond that total in its live-streaming tips. Treat this as operational guidance, not a guarantee against congestion or outages. Test the connection at the time and location you expect to stream, and avoid saturating the same upload link with other traffic.

Plan stream sessions and replay archives

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, as described in its live-stream archive guidance. That guidance does not promise a complete archive for a single uninterrupted session lasting 24 hours or longer.

If you need a replay, plan the broadcast in sessions under 12 hours and verify the current behavior in YouTube Studio before relying on it. A continuous radio channel and a continuous replay are different requirements: ending and restarting sessions may help with archive planning, but requires a process to avoid an unintended gap. Do not advertise a full replay of a 24-hour-plus session unless YouTube has actually made it available.

Common problems and fixes

  • Live streaming is unavailable: Check channel eligibility, restrictions, and whether activation has completed. First-time access may take up to 24 hours.
  • The encoder will not connect: Confirm the stream URL and key, encoder connection settings, and network access. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
  • Stream health is poor or the feed drops: Compare actual upload capacity with the stream bitrate and preserve YouTube’s recommended headroom. Check for competing network use, then restart the encoder or follow your cloud provider’s recovery steps.
  • The stream is interrupted despite having a music license: Contact the rights owner and ask whether they use Content ID and can allowlist your channel. A license does not itself ensure that YouTube’s live matching system will not interrupt the broadcast.
  • The picture or sound is wrong: Preview the outgoing feed, check the selected encoder source and output settings, and test every playlist transition. Confirm that the correct audio device or file is being sent and that the intended visual is not frozen or blank.
  • No complete replay appears: Check the stream’s duration and YouTube Studio. YouTube’s automatic archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours; it does not promise a full archive of a session lasting 24 hours or more.
