Before you stream: use only music you are authorized to broadcast on YouTube, and confirm that the relevant rights holders have allowlisted your channel in Content ID where required. For a do-it-yourself setup, use an encoder such as OBS on a Windows 11 PC, send its audio and video feed to YouTube Live, and keep the PC, power and internet connection running. That can support a continuous stream, but it cannot guarantee one: outages, encoder problems and YouTube enforcement can interrupt it.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is eligible for live streaming.
- A Windows 11 PC, a stable internet connection with enough upload capacity, and an encoder such as OBS.
- Audio files and any visuals that you have the rights to use in a YouTube livestream, including any archive or replay.
- Time to test the complete stream in YouTube Live Control Room before relying on it.
This guide describes a continuous audio feed with a static or simple visual. You do not need a camera. The exact Windows and encoder labels can vary by installed version; check the settings on your PC before leaving a stream unattended.
Check YouTube eligibility and music rights first
Confirm your channel can go live
YouTube Help’s live-stream eligibility guidance, current as of October 3, 2026, says the channel must be verified, meet YouTube’s minimum-age requirement, and have no live-stream restrictions during the preceding 90 days. Open YouTube Studio and select Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room and check the controls available to your channel. Complete any required activation before scheduling a long-running broadcast.

Clear both the recording and the music
A song can involve distinct rights in the underlying musical work and in the sound recording. For Indian music, do not assume that permission to play a recording also clears its composition, or that a general licence covers every track, territory, platform use, archive, duration or monetization arrangement. YouTube’s livestream terms require the content provider to represent that it has the rights needed for worldwide exploitation of the live content, including applicable music licensing rights.

YouTube Help states that all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. A match can cause YouTube to replace the live image, interrupt the broadcast or end it. A stream may still be interrupted if the rights holder has not added the channel to its Content ID allowlist, even if you have a licence.
Before broadcasting, ask the relevant rights holders or licensing organizations to confirm coverage for the specific tracks, the composition and recording, YouTube livestreaming and any saved replay, the territories and term, commercial use if applicable, and channel allowlisting. The Indian Copyright Act addresses public performance and communication of musical works; the Copyright Office handbook notes that a sound recording may require permission for both the recording and the underlying music, depending on the rights and repertoire. IPRS and PPL India describe licensing for their respective repertoires or rights, but their general information does not establish that a particular licence clears every song or YouTube livestream. A consumer music subscription should not be treated as rebroadcast permission. This is practical guidance, not a legal determination about a particular track or licence.

Set up the YouTube stream and encoder
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, choose Create > Go live and use Live Control Room to create or schedule a stream. Choose the stream’s visibility and settings for your test; private or unlisted testing can help you check the feed without presenting it as a public launch.
- Copy the connection details. In the stream’s encoder or stream settings in Live Control Room, copy the server URL and stream key. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service if offered, and connect using the supplied method or enter the server and key. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it, and reset it in YouTube if it is exposed.
- Add the music and a visual in OBS. Add a Media Source for an authorized local audio file or playlist and enable its loop option if you want it to repeat. Add a still image or simple scene for the video. Check the OBS audio meter while the track plays; confirm that the intended source is active and that other desktop audio will not unexpectedly enter the broadcast.
- Choose a sustainable video setup. A static visual does not require a complex scene. YouTube’s general encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 options, frame rates up to 60 fps, CBR bitrate mode and a recommended two-second keyframe frequency. For 720p at 30 fps, YouTube lists a recommended video bitrate of 2 Mbps. This is a platform recommendation, not a promise that your PC or connection can sustain it. A lower resolution or frame rate can be appropriate for a simple visual if it is more reliable on your system.
- Set audio and output carefully. Use an audio source and format supported by your encoder and YouTube’s current settings. Keep the output consistent with the chosen stream settings, and listen to a test from YouTube rather than relying only on the local OBS preview. Avoid making a universal bitrate assumption for audio or total stream bandwidth; check the active encoder output and test it on your connection.
- Start the encoder and confirm the preview. Start streaming in OBS, then check Live Control Room for a healthy incoming preview and listen to the YouTube feed. Follow the prompts shown for the selected stream to make it live. Confirm the correct track, visual, title, visibility and sound before leaving the setup.
Make a Windows 11 PC more dependable overnight
Keep power and networking steady
- Use a wired Ethernet connection where practical. Wi-Fi can work, but interference or a weak signal can make a long session less dependable.
- In Windows 11, open Settings > System > Power & battery and review the screen and sleep settings. Set the PC not to sleep while it is plugged in during the broadcast. The screen can turn off separately; the computer must remain awake.
- Keep the PC connected to power, and avoid starting the stream when Windows updates, driver installations or planned router maintenance may require a restart.
- A UPS for the PC and network equipment is an optional way to bridge some brief power interruptions. It does not provide internet through an ISP outage, and its runtime depends on the equipment and battery.
Leave upload headroom and watch the stream
YouTube’s streaming tips recommend leaving 20% headroom in upload bandwidth. Treat that as room for bitrate variation and other network use, not as an assurance against outages. Check the total outgoing bitrate—not only video—against the connection’s real upload capacity. Pause large uploads, cloud backups and other heavy traffic on the same connection while streaming where possible.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsYouTube recommends configuring and testing in advance, checking Live Control Room’s preview, verifying local archive files, monitoring audio and video quality, and testing failover. For a single-PC setup, keep a documented restart process and someone able to check the feed; a stream left unattended cannot alert or repair itself reliably. If a local recording is important, confirm that OBS is actually recording, that the destination has enough free disk space, and that a test file plays back correctly. A local archive is useful but is not a substitute for a permitted source copy or YouTube availability.

Preflight and recovery checks
Before going live
- Verify the channel’s live eligibility and review the current YouTube stream settings.
- Confirm permissions for each track, any visual, the live use and any replay; get Content ID allowlisting confirmed where needed.
- Test the exact OBS scene, media loop, audio level, stream key and YouTube preview.
- Confirm that the computer will not sleep, the network is stable, and the upload connection has headroom.
- Check recording destination space and play back a test archive if you need one.
- Arrange a person to monitor the stream and know how to restart the encoder or broadcast.
If the stream stops or has no sound
- YouTube shows no incoming video: check that OBS is still streaming, that the correct stream key and server details are configured, and that the network has not dropped. If the key may be compromised, reset it in YouTube and update OBS.
- The preview buffers or drops: reduce the encoder’s output demands, stop other upload-heavy activity, and test again with more upload headroom. A higher nominal internet plan does not ensure stable upload performance at the time of the stream.
- The picture continues but music is silent: check that the media source is playing and looping, that its audio meter moves, and that the correct source is included in the encoder’s output. Listen to the YouTube preview to verify the transmitted mix.
- YouTube interrupts the broadcast after a music match: check Live Control Room and any YouTube notices. Do not immediately restart with the same track; verify rights and ask the relevant owner about Content ID allowlisting.
- Windows restarts or the PC loses power: restore power and connectivity, reopen the encoder, verify the scene and key, then restart according to the controls shown in Live Control Room. A UPS may help only with some brief power interruptions.
