You can stream a 10-hour rain recording on YouTube Live by sending it through an encoder and configuring the source to repeat. YouTube does not turn an uploaded file into an endless loop for you: the encoder or playback setup must keep supplying the feed. A 10-hour event and a genuinely continuous 24/7 channel are different jobs; the latter also needs a plan to monitor and recover the feed.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube says the channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Its general getting-started guidance says streamers must be at least 16. Check current eligibility in YouTube Help before scheduling.
- A 10-hour rain audio/video source and permission to use every sound and image in both the live broadcast and any archive.
- An encoder or playback setup that can send a continuous feed to YouTube and repeat the source if the broadcast is intended to continue beyond its 10-hour duration.
- A stable internet connection with enough sustained upload capacity for the selected stream settings, plus headroom for variation.
- A local recording destination for a backup archive, such as a drive with sufficient free space.
Do not assume rain recordings, stock footage, or ambient visuals are copyright-free. YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party content and may be interrupted or terminated. Its livestream terms state: “The Live Content must comply with the YouTube Community Guidelines.” You also need the necessary rights for the live stream and any archived content.
How to set up the 10-hour rain stream
- Prepare and check the source. Confirm that the full recording plays for 10 hours, the audio is clean and at a consistent level, and any accompanying visual is lawful to use. If the plan is a 24/7 channel, configure the playback source to repeat continuously; do not rely on a YouTube upload setting to loop it.
- Confirm YouTube Live eligibility. Sign in to the channel you intend to use and verify that livestreaming is available. Resolve any restrictions before setting up the event.
- Create or select a stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the live stream. Choose the encoder workflow so the control room provides the stream URL and stream key.
- Connect the encoder. Enter the stream URL and key in your encoder or compatible hardware, then select the rain source and its repeat behavior. Treat the key like a password: it authorizes the encoder to send content, so do not expose it in a screenshot, recording, or public page.
- Choose settings the source and connection can sustain. Match the output resolution and frame rate to the source rather than upscaling a static ambient recording without a reason. YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS ingest, H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 video codecs, AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval (not over four seconds). Use YouTube’s current bitrate table for the selected resolution and frame rate instead of treating one bitrate as universal. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingest.
- Preview and test the entire path. Start the encoder and check that the Live Control Room preview shows the expected image and audio. Test the repeat transition, confirm the audio does not cut out or jump unexpectedly, check stream health, and confirm the local recording is being written. Watch the channel’s stream page on a separate device, including a phone, before announcing the broadcast.
- Go live and monitor it. Begin the event using the Live Control Room and keep checking audio, picture, stream health, and the encoder. A network disruption can break the feed; YouTube recommends reliable networking and monitoring, but does not promise that an encoder or stream will restart itself.
- End or maintain the event deliberately. For a finite 10-hour event, end it in the control room and stop the encoder when finished. For continuous operation, keep the source and encoder running and have a person or system ready to detect a stopped feed and restart it. Recheck YouTube’s current event and archive guidance for the strategy you choose.
Looping a 10-hour file into a 24/7 feed
The loop belongs in the source or encoder workflow, not in a YouTube setting described by YouTube’s encoder instructions. Set the playback source to repeat, then test the point where the recording returns to its beginning. A hard splice, silence, sudden volume change, or mismatched image can make a loop noticeable; if the recording has an abrupt ending, edit a smoother transition in a source you have rights to use.
Keep the distinction between content playback and stream delivery clear: the file supplies the rain audio/video, while the encoder continuously sends the resulting feed to YouTube. If either playback stops or the connection fails, the live feed can stop. A 24/7 plan therefore needs monitoring and a recovery procedure, not just a long source file.

Encoder and connection settings that matter
Video and audio format
Use a codec and ingest protocol supported by the encoder workflow you select. For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for video, and AAC or MP3 for audio. RTMPS is YouTube’s recommended encrypted ingest option. Use the current YouTube encoder-settings table to select the bitrate for your actual resolution and frame rate; the correct value depends on those choices.
Keyframes and bitrate
YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Set a constant bitrate (CBR) where supported. The upload connection must sustain the configured bitrate, with headroom for normal fluctuations; a connection that only occasionally reaches the target is a risk for a long-running stream.

When HLS is relevant
HLS is another YouTube ingest option for some workflows, including HDR or supported codecs. YouTube notes that HLS has higher latency than RTMP and has additional segment and playlist requirements. It is not necessary for a straightforward ambient rain stream unless the encoder or chosen workflow requires it.
Will YouTube archive a 10-hour livestream?
YouTube says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” A 10-hour event is below that threshold, but automatic archiving is not a substitute for a backup. YouTube warns that streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all and recommends recording a local archive as a backup. Keep a local recording if preserving the full broadcast matters; the platform’s archive behavior is not a guarantee.

A continuous 24/7 channel is a different archive case from one 10-hour event. Decide how you will handle event boundaries and recordings before leaving a feed running continuously, and recheck the current YouTube archive guidance for that approach.
Copyright and reused-content checks
Having a license does not necessarily prevent an automated interruption: YouTube’s live guidance says a stream matching third-party content can be interrupted, and a rights owner may need to allowlist the channel. Make sure your rights cover the livestream and archive, and contact the rights owner about allowlisting where appropriate. If a stream is interrupted for a match, check YouTube’s notice and resolve the rights issue rather than repeatedly restarting the same material.

Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate questions. Do not assume that owning or licensing a long ambient track guarantees that a channel will qualify for monetization; YouTube’s applicable monetization policies and channel review determine that separately.
Common problems and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| No preview or encoder cannot connect | Incorrect stream URL or key, or an encoder configuration mismatch. | Copy the current URL and key from the intended Live Control Room stream, confirm the selected ingest protocol, and keep the key private. |
| Stream health warnings, buffering, or dropped feed | Upload capacity is insufficient or unstable for the selected bitrate. | Check sustained upload performance, reduce the output bitrate or quality to a level the connection can maintain, and leave headroom. |
| The live feed stops at the end of the file | The source was not configured to repeat, or playback ended. | Enable looping in the playback/encoder setup and test the transition before going live. |
| Rain audio cuts out, clips, or changes abruptly | Source transition, audio routing, or level problem. | Listen through a full loop, check the encoder’s audio input and meters, and repair the source transition or level before restarting. |
| Live stream is interrupted for third-party content | A rights match or other YouTube enforcement action. | Review the Live Control Room notice, verify rights for all audio and visuals, and ask the rights owner about allowlisting if you are licensed. |
| No archive appears after the event | Archiving is not guaranteed, or the stream exceeded the stated under-12-hour guidance. | Check the channel’s video list and current YouTube archive guidance; use the local recording as the dependable backup. |
| The 24/7 stream remains offline after an interruption | The encoder, source, or network did not recover automatically. | Check which part stopped, restore playback and connectivity, then reconnect the encoder and confirm the preview and stream health. |
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube-only 24/7 stream built from uploaded videos, StreamNeo is the cloud option to consider first: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. The stream plays the uploaded file rather than broadcasting a camera feed.

Cost and storage planning for a DIY setup
A DIY encoder method requires a device and connection capable of sustaining the stream; for a computer-based setup, that means the computer and network need to remain available for the broadcast. A 10-hour local archive can also require substantial disk space, depending on its recording bitrate. Calculate storage from the recording settings you choose and leave additional free space rather than assuming YouTube’s archive will preserve the event. YouTube recommends a local archive but does not prescribe a drive size.
