To stop monetized ads from being triggered on your live stream, turn off monetization for that stream. If you want to keep monetization on, set mid-rolls to manual and do not insert breaks; YouTube says that prevents mid-rolls, but pre-roll and display ads are automatically enabled when live-stream monetization is on. You cannot promise every viewer an entirely ad-free experience through mid-roll settings alone.
Choose what matters more: fewer interruptions or ad revenue
YouTube’s creator-side options control monetization and certain ad formats; they do not give a creator a documented switch that guarantees every viewer will see no ads. The most direct documented way to stop monetized ads being triggered on the live stream is to turn off monetization for it. That gives up ad monetization for that stream.
If you leave monetization on, you can control mid-rolls, but not use that control to disable the pre-roll and display formats that YouTube says are automatically turned on with live monetization. Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve, so viewers may have different experiences.
Turn off monetization for the live stream
In YouTube Studio, open the active stream in Live Control Room and check its monetization settings. Turn monetization off for the stream. YouTube’s settings and eligibility can change, so verify the active stream rather than assuming a channel default applies. YouTube’s current instructions are in Monetize your live stream.
#1 Best Overall
- Turn On, Tune In: Preloaded with Spotify, Spotify Kids, Amazon Music, Pandora, Deezer, TIDAL, and YouTube Music; get straight to music, audiobooks, and podcasts from the moment you power on
- Hear Pure, Feel True: HiBy Music with lossless playback and flexible sound modes; enjoy authentic audio with rich detail and deeper emotion in every track
- Bedtime On, Sleep Easy: Audible, Libby, and LibriVox preloaded; unwind with soothing audiobooks and timeless stories that gently guide you into restful nights
- Power Smart, Play Smooth: 12nm CPU reduces power use and handles multitasking with ease; enjoy stable playback and fuller audio detail with hardware-level FLAC/APE decoding
- One Account, All Devices: Sync with your Google account to keep playlists, favorites, and subscriptions the same across phone, tablet, and player
This is the clearest creator-side choice if avoiding monetized interruptions is more important than earning ad revenue on the stream. It is not a guarantee about every viewer’s playback experience.
Keep monetization on but prevent mid-rolls
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and select the active livestream.
- Find the mid-roll ad setting and choose manual handling instead of automatic or scheduled breaks.
- Do not insert any mid-roll breaks. YouTube states, “If you do not insert any mid-roll ad breaks, no mid-rolls will be served.”
This disables mid-rolls, not all ad formats. YouTube says pre-roll and display ads are automatically turned on when monetization is on for a live stream. See YouTube Help’s live monetization guidance for current controls.

Understand the other mid-roll controls
Automatic mid-rolls
Automatic mid-rolls can be set to low, medium, or high frequency. YouTube says its system aims to place breaks at natural breakpoints, but timing can vary by viewer. Its automatic optimizations include limiting ad disruption to channel members, temporarily pausing mid-rolls for viewers sending gifts, Super Chats, or Stickers, and snoozing mid-rolls for all viewers during high-engagement moments. These measures are not an ad-free guarantee.

Scheduled mid-rolls
YouTube documents scheduled intervals of 6, 12, 18, 24, or 30 minutes. Use a schedule only if you want to permit mid-roll breaks at intervals; it does not serve the goal of preventing mid-roll interruptions.

The WiiM Pro Plus is also compatible with Google and Siri Voice Assistants, allowing you to control your device using voice commands through your phone, HomePod, or Google Home.
Delay ads
Live Control Room includes a “Delay ads” control that delays automatic mid-rolls for 10 minutes. A five-second countdown appears before ads resume. Manually placed mid-rolls still display while the delay is active, so this is a temporary delay rather than a persistent way to suppress breaks. Details are in YouTube’s live-stream monetization help.
What viewers may experience
YouTube says ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads. If an ad does not run, the viewer continues watching the stream; a viewer who receives a mid-roll rejoins when the ad ends or they skip it. This variability means the same livestream may not look identical to every viewer. The platform’s statement, “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads,” describes delivery variability—not a creator’s ability to ensure that no viewer sees an ad. YouTube also explains live-ad behavior at Live stream ads.

YouTube’s live monetization documentation mentions YouTube Premium as a source of eligible creator revenue, but that does not establish a specific Premium viewing experience for every viewer of a particular 24/7 music stream. Do not rely on Premium status or mid-roll controls as a guaranteed ad-free solution.
Weigh the revenue trade-off carefully
YouTube reported an over 20% average uplift in instream ad revenue per hour for channels that enabled live automatic mid-rolls compared with channels that did not. YouTube’s January 2024 figure averaged results across 207 countries. It is a platform-reported average, not a forecast for an individual music stream and not evidence that automatic mid-rolls reduce viewer interruptions.
