You can’t turn off Google Search’s “unusual traffic from your computer network” CAPTCHA with a Chrome setting. To continue, solve the reCAPTCHA. If it keeps returning, troubleshoot the device or network that Google says may be sending automated-looking traffic.
Why Google asks you to complete a CAPTCHA in Chrome
The prompt is Google Search’s response to traffic it considers unusual; it is not a CAPTCHA control built into Chrome. Google says a network may trigger the message when it appears to send automated traffic. That network could include a VPN connection, and other people or devices sharing the connection may also be relevant. Google Search Help explains the warning and its possible causes.
A CAPTCHA by itself does not prove that your computer is infected. Google lists malware as one possibility to investigate, alongside shared-network activity, VPN or IPv6 tunnel services, and your internet provider.

- Complete the reCAPTCHA. Google’s immediate instruction is to solve it to confirm you are a person. Google says the message goes away after you complete the challenge, allowing you to use Search again. See Google’s instructions for the unusual-traffic message.
- If the prompt returns, check whether the issue follows your device or connection. See whether other devices using the same network encounter it, or whether the affected device behaves differently on another connection. This can help distinguish a device-specific issue from one involving a shared network; Google does not prescribe this as a formal test.
- Review possible sources of automated-looking traffic. Consider whether you use a VPN or IPv6 tunnel service, whether another person or device on the network could be generating automated searches, and whether malware should be investigated. The CAPTCHA alone is not a malware diagnosis.
- Escalate network issues to the right person. On a work or school connection, ask the network administrator or IT professional to investigate. For a VPN-related issue, contact the VPN provider. If the local devices and network have been checked and the issue persists, contact your internet provider. Google advises administrators to locate and stop automated traffic.
If the challenge appears but won’t load or complete
When there is no visible challenge to solve, check browser compatibility and JavaScript rather than looking for a Chrome CAPTCHA-off switch. Google’s reCAPTCHA guidance recommends using a supported, fully updated browser, enabling JavaScript, and trying to disable plugins that may conflict. Read Google reCAPTCHA Help.

If the problem occurs during Google Account sign-in, Google separately suggests checking JavaScript and temporarily turning off extensions that may interfere with sign-in. Why common “disable CAPTCHA” fixes aren’t guaranteed
Google’s Search help does not prescribe a Chrome setting, extension, or universal reset to permanently remove this challenge. Clearing browser data, changing your IP address, resetting a router, or switching VPNs may not address the cause—especially if traffic from another device or a shared network is involved. Focus instead on completing the prompt and investigating the device or network if it repeatedly returns.

CAPTCHAs on other websites
This guidance applies to Google Search’s unusual-traffic message. If a CAPTCHA appears on another website, its operator controls that site’s challenge; Chrome does not provide one setting to disable every website’s CAPTCHA. Follow that site’s instructions or contact its support if its challenge is inaccessible.
