Pause the auto clicker first, then check what its coordinates are measured from: the whole desktop, the active window, or the window’s client area. Next, check Windows display scaling and monitor placement. A saved point can miss when the script and target application interpret coordinates differently, or when the target is on a monitor with a different scale. If the application exposes usable controls, targeting a window or control can avoid reliance on a fixed desktop point.
Before changing coordinates, make the clicks safe
Stop or pause the automation before editing settings or testing. An unintended click could submit, delete, or purchase something. Identify the clicker or scripting tool, the target application, and which monitor holds the target; settings described below for AutoHotkey do not apply automatically to other clickers.
Check the coordinate origin
A coordinate such as 500, 300 is meaningful only when you know its origin. AutoHotkey v2 supports three relevant coordinate modes:
PC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute| Mode | Coordinates are measured from | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Screen | The desktop coordinate space | A target that should stay tied to a desktop position |
| Window | The active window | A target positioned relative to that window |
| Client | The active window’s client area | A target inside the app’s content area |
In AutoHotkey v2, set CoordMode deliberately for the relevant mouse operation and measure the point in the same mode. If omitted, built-in coordinate handling defaults to Client. A newly launched script thread starts with that default, so set the mode during startup rather than relying on a setting established in another thread. See AutoHotkey v2 CoordMode documentation.
#1 Best Overall
- 【Plug and Play for Home/Office/School】The wireless computer mouse features 2.4GHz connectivity, delivering a stable, interference-free connection up to 32ft. Designed for 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬, it ensures comfortable use all day. Simply plug in the USB-A receiver for instant pairing—no drivers needed. 📌📌 If the mouse isn’t suitable, place the USB receiver in the battery compartment and return both.
- 【3 Levels Adjustable DPI】This travel USB mouse offers 3 adjustable DPI settings (800, 1200, 1600), allowing you to customize sensitivity for precise design work. Effortlessly switch to match your task and elevate your productivity. 📌 Please remove the film at the bottom of the mouse before use.
- 【Effortless Browsing】Equipped with forward and backward buttons, this computer mice streamlines your workflow, making it easy to navigate through web pages and files with a simple click. 📌Side button does not work on Mac.
- 【Visible Indicator Light】 The pc mouse features a visual indicator for DPI levels and low battery alerts. The red light flashes once for 800 DPI, twice for 1200 DPI, and three times for 1600 DPI. When the battery level is below 10%, the light flashes red until the mouse is completely out of power.
- 【Click to Wake】With smart sleep mode, it saves power by standby after 10 inactive minutes, just 2-3 clicks to wake. This efficient design delivers 3x longer battery life than motion-wake mice. Engineered for durability, its buttons and scroll wheel are tested for 10 million clicks, ensuring long-term reliability and consistent performance.
For example, a point recorded relative to an application window will not reliably identify the same target if the clicker interprets it as a desktop point. Match the coordinate mode used when recording or calculating the point to the mode used when clicking.
Check Windows display scaling and mixed-DPI monitors
Display scaling is not the same as changing resolution. Windows can change the size and location of interface elements while the physical pixel count stays the same. Microsoft describes physical and logical coordinates as separate coordinate systems; a position expressed in one may not map directly to the same visible position in the other. Its example says that at 120 dpi, dimensions are scaled by 25 percent. That is an illustration of scaling, not a rule for multiplying every click coordinate. Read Microsoft’s Windows high-DPI desktop application guidance.

- Compact Mouse: With a comfortable and contoured shape, this Logitech ambidextrous wireless mouse feels great in either right or left hand and is far superior to a touchpad
- Durable and Reliable: This USB wireless mouse features a line-by-line scroll wheel, up to 1 year of battery life (2) thanks to a smart sleep mode function, and comes with the included AA battery
- Universal Compatibility: Your Logitech mouse works with your Windows PC, Mac, or laptop, so no matter what type of computer you own today or buy tomorrow your mouse will be compatible
- Plug and Play Simplicity: Just plug in the tiny nano USB receiver and start working in seconds with a strong, reliable connection to your wireless computer mouse up to 33 feet / 10 m (5)
- Better than touchpad: Get more done by adding M185 to your laptop; according to a recent study, laptop users who chose this mouse over a touchpad were 50% more productive (3) and worked 30% faster (4)
Check whether display scaling, resolution, docking, or window placement changed after the script started. Also compare scale settings across monitors. AutoHotkey notes that different monitor scales, or changing a scale setting while a program is running, can affect coordinate handling; interaction with external windows can produce unexpected coordinates on non-primary screens. The right mapping depends on DPI awareness and how the program obtains screen coordinates, so do not assume a single multiplier will fix a mixed-DPI desktop. See AutoHotkey v2 High DPI documentation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsRe-measure and test the target safely
- Restore the intended layout. Put the target window on the monitor and in the position where the automation is meant to operate.
- Confirm the coordinate mode. In AutoHotkey v2, set Screen, Window, or Client for the relevant mouse operation, then ensure the stored point was measured using that same origin.
- Check scaling on every display. Note any different scale settings and any changes made since the script was launched.
- Measure again under the current setup. Use a harmless target rather than a button that submits, deletes, or purchases. Do not apply a guessed scaling multiplier.
- Test one click at a time. Verify the pointer and click land where intended before resuming repeated clicks.
Consider targeting a window or control instead of a screen point
A fixed desktop coordinate is quick to configure, but it depends on the window layout and display state. If the application exposes accessible controls, a control-targeted method may be less dependent on where the window sits. AutoHotkey v1’s ControlClick documentation describes targeting a control by identifier or using coordinates relative to the target window. Whether an application exposes a usable identifier—and whether targeting it works reliably—varies by application. The cited function is documented for v1; do not assume its syntax or behavior is identical in v2. See AutoHotkey v1 ControlClick documentation.

If you are using Windows UI Automation code
Keep logical cursor coordinates separate from physical UI Automation coordinates. Microsoft documents a mismatch in which cursor coordinates and some UI Automation APIs use different coordinate types. For that specific case, its guidance is to make the client DPI-aware and use physical cursor coordinates, including SetProcessDPIAware and GetPhysicalCursorPos. This is an API-specific remedy, not a universal setting for all auto clickers or scripts. See Microsoft’s Windows high-DPI desktop application guidance.
