To start an internet radio station on YouTube, first make sure your channel is eligible to livestream, then create a video feed and send it to YouTube with an encoder. Before going live, test the stream and confirm you have the rights to broadcast every song and other item in your program. YouTube provides the broadcast platform; it does not grant music rights.
1. Check that your channel can livestream
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Its current guidance sets the minimum age for livestreaming at 16. First-time live access may take up to 24 hours to activate, so enable it before your planned launch rather than at the last minute. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and encoder setup instructions.
YouTube lists an active livestream receiving a copyright strike among the circumstances that can restrict livestream access. Check your channel’s status before investing time in a broadcast setup; a song being available on another service, or owning a copy, does not by itself establish that you may stream it on YouTube. See YouTube’s guidance on avoiding live-streaming restrictions.
2. Decide what kind of radio show you are building
YouTube livestreams are video broadcasts, even when the program is primarily audio. Use an encoder to combine your audio with a suitable visual feed, such as station artwork or a program visual. The cited YouTube instructions explain the encoder workflow but do not prescribe a specific radio layout or software.
#1 Best Overall
- [XLR Mic Input] One XLR microphone input interface is set on the gaming audio mixer, which is great to up your audio quality with your XLR setup. The XLR mixer is a stepping stone to upgrade your live streaming. Audio mixer offered built-in 48V phantom power which opens up more choices for mics. Directly use it with your condenser microphone but do not solve added peripherals. (NOT available for USB mic)
- [Individual Channel Control] Gaming audio mixer for one mic recording with smooth volume slider fader take your streaming recording to a whole new level with full pleasure. Four independent channels set on the DJ mixer give audio volume of the MICROPHONE, LINE IN, HEADPHONE, and LINE OUT channels individual control. Configurable on the PC audio mixer instead of just operating on your game or streaming software.
- [Mute and Monitor] The front mute and monitor buttons but not at the back, make it easier to get the audio interface use. Ability to mute audio, the audio mixer for streaming prevents background noise from damaging your live broadcast. Real-time feedback between speaking and hearing will not distract your attention, which encourage you to speak more confidently. The sturdy-built control button allow you to operate freely and easily during live streaming.
- [Sound Effects] The computer sound mixer supports four pre-recorded customized button that can be recorded and activated at the press of button to post production. 6 kinds of voice changing modes change your output style. 12 auto tune changes the tone of your voice. The podcast mixer being able to add different and fun effects is a huge bonus for your streaming or game voice.
- [Controllable Vibrant RGB] RGB button on the audio mixer DJ meets different live streaming themes. Lights on the video mixer is vibrant but not harsh on your eyes. Flowing or frozen RGB color rotation in a decent pace presents a greatly strong impression as a "light show" to your audience. Even a streaming equipment accessory will not be dull looking when video production.
| Format | What to plan for |
|---|---|
| Music-only or automated programming | Prepare the audio program and its accompanying visual feed. A microphone is not established as a requirement for this format. |
| Presenter-led show | Plan how the host’s voice enters the program and test its level against music or other audio. A microphone is an optional practical purchase for a live host, not a YouTube requirement. |
You can send the feed using encoder software or standalone encoder hardware. YouTube describes both encoder streaming and external audio/video equipment, but its guidance does not establish a price or performance winner between them. Choose a setup you can configure, test, and monitor reliably. See YouTube’s encoder instructions.
3. Clear rights before you put music on air
Make sure your permissions cover the intended YouTube livestream, the music and other material in the program, and the territories where it will be available. YouTube’s Livestream Terms and Conditions say: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” The terms also place responsibility on the provider to meet regulatory requirements in the Live Stream Territory, including any licensing, registration, or notification requirements.

- Analog mixing and equalization for pure sound
- Direct mixing of PC/gaming sounds into the streaming output
- Ultra-low noise analog mixer for streaming, podcasting and recording
- Stereo USB audio interface to connect your computer or mobile device
Those are broad platform terms, not a determination of what a particular catalog or country requires. The answer depends on your territory and the specific material you plan to broadcast; check the applicable rights and regulatory requirements before transmission, including whether your permissions cover an archived replay. YouTube’s technical setup does not supply those permissions.

- Enable live access. Verify the channel and request live access in YouTube Studio. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation, as described in YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Create or schedule a livestream. In YouTube Studio, open the live-streaming workflow and create or schedule the broadcast. Set its details and visibility for your test or launch. For an initial test, use an unlisted stream where that option is available.
- Copy the connection details. In the stream’s encoder settings in YouTube Studio, copy the server URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in your encoder. YouTube uses the key to identify and accept the encoder’s incoming feed; treat it as a credential and do not share it publicly.
- Configure your program feed. Select the audio input or prepared program and add the visual component required for a YouTube video livestream. If you use external audio or video hardware, confirm it is selected and connected in the encoder.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Send the feed, then check the preview in YouTube Live Control Room before starting the public program. Confirm that the watch page loads for viewers and that the image and sound are both present.
Exact encoder controls differ by software and hardware, so use the device’s instructions for its input, output, and stream settings. YouTube’s cited pages establish the server URL and stream-key workflow, but do not prescribe one radio-specific encoder configuration.

- Compact, feature-rich livestreaming USB audio mixer provides high-quality sound for desktop audio production
- Plug-and-play connectivity to computer or mobile device (no special drivers required)
- Loopback function makes it easy to mix mic and instrument inputs with background music, game sounds, or other audio input from a computer – and send the stereo mix back to the computer for streaming
- High-performance A/D converter with resolution up to 24-bit/192 kHz provides crystal-clear output for voice and instruments
- Equipped with a single mic input (XLR or ¼"), two LINE inputs for guitar and keyboard, and USB-C input for connecting to a computer
5. Test audio, video, and internet capacity
Do a complete rehearsal before announcing the station. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring the stream, and advises leaving upload bandwidth headroom. Its streaming tips recommend 20% headroom: total stream bitrate should not exceed the upload capacity available to the broadcast, with that margin left over. The page does not state a publication year for this recommendation. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Listen to the preview for silence, distortion, clipping, unwanted background sound, and abrupt level changes.
- Check that the visual feed is present and stays with the audio program.
- Open the watch page on another device or in a separate browser session to confirm the stream is viewable as intended.
- Watch the Live Control Room status while the test runs, and check the feed again after any encoder, audio-routing, or network change.
- Leave the recommended 20% upload-bandwidth headroom rather than using all measured upload capacity for the stream.
6. Plan the broadcast length and replay
YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish that a continuous 24/7 feed will be preserved as one complete replay. If replay continuity matters, decide how long each broadcast should run and how you will handle the transition between broadcasts before launching an always-on schedule. See YouTube’s encoder instructions.

7. Understand monetization limits
If your channel is eligible, YouTube may offer live-stream ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and channel memberships. Ad delivery is not guaranteed for every slot, so do not budget on the assumption that ads will always appear or produce a particular amount. YouTube also states that ads are turned off on an externally embedded player with autoplay. See YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance.
8. Troubleshoot common launch problems
| Symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| You cannot start a livestream | Confirm channel verification and live eligibility, check for restrictions, and allow time for first-time activation, which may take up to 24 hours. |
| YouTube does not receive the encoder feed | Check that the encoder has the correct server URL and stream key copied from the intended stream in YouTube Studio. Treat the key as a credential. |
| The preview has video but no sound, or sound but no video | Check the encoder’s selected audio input and visual source, then verify both in the Live Control Room preview before going live. |
| The stream stutters or drops | Check the available upload bandwidth against the stream’s total bitrate and preserve the 20% headroom YouTube recommends. Recheck the feed after changing the connection or encoder settings. |
| A song triggers a rights concern or livestream restriction | Stop and resolve the rights issue before continuing. Having access to a track or a copy of it is not proof of permission to livestream it on YouTube. |
| You cannot find a complete replay of a long broadcast | Do not assume a 24/7 stream becomes one archive: YouTube’s stated automatic-archive condition is for streams under 12 hours. |
