You can use WordPress to publish podcast episodes and create the RSS feed that listening apps use to find your show. First choose your WordPress setup, configure the show, publish an episode, decide where to host the audio, then submit the feed to podcast directories. WordPress.com includes a built-in podcast workflow; other WordPress sites typically use a podcast plugin.
1. Choose your WordPress setup
The steps depend on whether your site is hosted at WordPress.com or runs on another WordPress installation.
WordPress.com
WordPress.com provides a built-in Jetpack Podcast workflow. Its Free plan supports publishing a podcast feed while the audio is hosted elsewhere. The WordPress.com guide reviewed September 26, 2026, lists audio hosting, an episode dashboard, stats, and an episode player block on Premium and above; it lists 13 GB of storage for Premium. Plan features can change, so check the current WordPress.com podcast guide before choosing a plan.
Another WordPress installation
Install a podcast plugin to manage episode publishing and the RSS feed. Seriously Simple Podcasting documents onboarding, feed settings, hosting integrations, analytics, and migration features. Simple Podcasting is another option, with a feed and block-based workflow described in its plugin listing. Plugin listings are not neutral comparative tests, so compare current features, support, and compatibility before deciding.

If you intend to store audio on your website, confirm that your web host can reliably serve media files. The cited sources do not establish that every standard web hosting plan is suitable for podcast delivery.
2. Configure the show and feed
Create the podcast in your chosen workflow and fill out its show details. Typically, this includes the show title, description, category, and cover art, along with any other fields the platform requests. WordPress.com uses a selected post category to identify podcast episodes and provides show and feed settings; Seriously Simple Podcasting includes RSS feed settings in WordPress.

3. Publish your first episode
- Prepare the audio. Create an episode recording and save the audio file in a format accepted by your chosen publishing or hosting setup. The cited setup documentation does not establish minimum recording equipment.
- Create an episode post. On WordPress.com, create a post in the podcast category and add a Podcast Episode, Audio, or Video block. With Seriously Simple Podcasting, create an episode in its podcasting area or through the regular post area.
- Add episode details and audio. Enter the episode information, attach or select the audio, and include a player or block so visitors can listen from the post.
- Publish and check the page. Open the live episode page, play the audio, confirm the show information and artwork, and verify that the published feed includes the intended episode.
A dedicated microphone may be useful if you want recording hardware, but it is not a requirement for publishing a podcast through WordPress.

4. Decide where the audio files will live
WordPress publishing and podcast audio hosting are separate decisions. WordPress can manage the show page, episode posts, and feed, while the audio itself can be stored on WordPress.com or with a dedicated podcast host.
| Audio setup | What it means | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| WordPress.com audio hosting | The WordPress.com guide lists audio hosting for Premium and above; Premium is listed with 13 GB of storage on the guide reviewed September 26, 2026. Free supports a feed with audio hosted elsewhere. | Confirm current plan features and storage on the WordPress.com podcast guide. |
| Dedicated podcast host | The host stores and delivers audio while WordPress remains the site and publishing interface. Seriously Simple Podcasting says it can work with any podcast hosting provider and documents Castos integration. | Check media delivery, how show and feed changes synchronize, analytics, migration or redirect support, and the provider’s current costs and features. |
| Audio files served by your WordPress web host | Your site may serve the audio files directly if your hosting supports the demands of media delivery. | Ask your web host about storage, bandwidth, and reliable delivery; the cited sources do not establish suitability for every hosting plan. |
Seriously Simple Podcasting documents Castos syncing and hosting features, but its plugin listing also says the plugin works with other hosting providers. Choose based on the delivery and management features you need rather than assuming a particular host is required.

5. Submit your podcast RSS feed to directories
Once the show feed and at least one episode are ready, copy the podcast RSS feed URL and submit it to the listening directories your audience uses. WordPress.com provides a Distribution tab with the feed URL and submission status. Seriously Simple Podcasting describes submitting a completed feed to services such as Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and advertises a Castos one-click submission option.
- Open the podcast’s distribution or feed settings in WordPress and copy the RSS feed URL.
- Submit that URL through the directory’s current podcast submission process.
- Check the directory’s listing and status separately from your WordPress episode page; publishing on your site does not itself mean a directory has accepted or listed the show.
Directory requirements can change. Follow the current instructions from each service when submitting. WordPress.com also notes that Spotify counts plays inside its apps, so those plays do not appear in WordPress.com podcast stats; see its podcast distribution and statistics guidance.

6. Choose a plugin if you use another WordPress installation
Seriously Simple Podcasting and Simple Podcasting both have documented podcast publishing capabilities, but the available sources do not provide a neutral, side-by-side test. Use the plugin listings to verify their current workflows, compatibility, and support before installing.
- Seriously Simple Podcasting: Describes episode and feed management, hosting integrations, analytics, and migration. Its listing says it can work with any podcast hosting provider and describes Castos integration. See the plugin listing and the Castos integration information.
- Simple Podcasting: Describes feed management and a block-based episode workflow. Its listing specifies PHP 7.4 or later; check the current listing for compatibility and maintenance details before relying on that requirement.
Compare the plugins against your needs: publishing workflow, feed management, compatibility with your WordPress and PHP versions, hosting integrations, analytics, and migration options. Do not assume that a feature advertised by a plugin is included in every connected hosting plan.
