To start a Hindi podcast radio stream on YouTube from India, verify that your channel can go live, create a stream in YouTube Live Control Room, connect OBS with the stream URL and private stream key, then test your voice and upload connection before broadcasting. For a speech-led show, start with a reliable microphone, 720p or 1080p at 30 fps, and YouTube’s recommended audio settings; use music only when you have the rights for a YouTube live broadcast.
1. Confirm your channel can livestream
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube also states that live streamers must be at least 16. If this is your channel’s first livestream, activation can take up to 24 hours, so check well before the planned show. See YouTube Help’s Get started with live streaming.
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room.
- Check that livestreaming is enabled for the channel. Complete any verification or activation steps YouTube presents.
- If access is not yet enabled, wait for activation rather than leaving setup until showtime.
2. Create a YouTube stream and connect OBS
YouTube’s encoder workflow is intended for broadcasts made with external audio or video equipment and more advanced production setups. Create or schedule the event in Live Control Room, then copy the stream URL and stream key YouTube supplies into OBS’s streaming settings. Labels and screen layout can vary between software versions, so use the current OBS interface and YouTube’s Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder instructions rather than relying on a particular menu label.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or schedule a stream and choose the encoder workflow.
- In OBS, open its streaming settings and enter YouTube’s stream URL and stream key. Use the values for the event you intend to broadcast.
- Keep the stream key private. Anyone who obtains it may be able to stream to your channel. Do not show it on screen, share it in chat, or publish it in a screenshot.
- Return to Live Control Room and check that OBS is sending a signal and that a preview appears before starting the public broadcast.
OBS is free, open-source software. Download it from the official OBS Project Help Portal; OBS says the software can be used commercially without restrictions.

3. Set up clean speech audio
For a solo host
Begin with one dependable microphone connected to the computer. In OBS, select it as the audio input and speak at the distance and loudness you will use during the show. Watch the input meter while speaking: the voice should register clearly without reaching the clipping zone. Listen through headphones to catch hum, echo, or overly quiet audio before going live.
For co-hosts or guests in the same room
Multiple microphones can make a multi-host show easier to balance, but a mixer or audio interface is an optional production choice, not a requirement for a first podcast. YouTube notes that expensive equipment is not necessary to get started and describes mixers as part of more advanced setups. If you use speakers while monitoring, they can feed the microphone and create echo; headphones avoid that feedback path.

Suggested audio encoding
For stereo audio over RTMP or RTMPS, YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends AAC or MP3, a 44.1 kHz sample rate, and 128 Kbps audio bitrate. These are YouTube Help recommendations, not a guarantee that every microphone or production chain will sound alike. See Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

4. Match video settings to the show and connection
A radio-style podcast is primarily about intelligible speech, so choose a resolution and frame rate the upload connection can sustain steadily rather than maximizing picture quality. A static host shot, title card, or simple studio scene typically needs less motion than a fast-moving broadcast, but the actual stream should still be tested with the scenes and movement you plan to use.

| Output setting | YouTube guidance | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps, H.264 | 3 Mbps recommended video bitrate | A practical starting point for a modest connection or simple talking-head scene. |
| 1080p at 30 fps, H.264 | 5 Mbps recommended video bitrate | Use if the upload connection remains stable at this rate with headroom. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds recommended; no more than 4 seconds | Set the encoder keyframe interval accordingly. |
| Rate control | CBR recommended | Use constant bitrate for the encoder stream. |
| Protocol | RTMPS recommended | Use the secure stream URL provided by YouTube when available in the encoder configuration. |
The bitrate figures are YouTube Help’s H.264 recommendations, not India-specific network thresholds or a promise that your provider will sustain them. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% upload headroom. For example, a 5 Mbps video bitrate plus 128 Kbps audio requires more than 5 Mbps of stable upload capacity; allowing the stated headroom means planning for roughly 6.2 Mbps or more of available upload capacity for that stream, before accounting for other network use. YouTube recommends an upload speed test and notes that shared home or office connections can reduce what is available to the broadcast. No single India-wide speed threshold is established here.
5. Test the complete broadcast before the show
- Run an internet speed test and pay attention to upload speed, not just download speed. Repeat it at a time and location similar to when you will broadcast.
- Close or pause bandwidth-heavy activity on the same connection where practical. Shared users and devices can consume upload capacity while OBS is live.
- Start OBS and send a private or scheduled test stream. Speak at the normal show level and play any sound sources you intend to use.
- Check the Live Control Room preview. Confirm that voice is audible, the picture is correct, and the stream health indicator does not show persistent problems.
- During the real stream, keep Live Control Room open where possible and monitor stream health and audio/video quality.
YouTube’s Streaming tips advise testing with audio and movement similar to the actual broadcast and checking the preview before starting.

6. Avoid copyright interruptions
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including other live broadcasts. If copyrighted material remains in a stream, YouTube may replace it with a placeholder, interrupt it temporarily, or terminate the stream. A song being available on a music service, or having been purchased, does not by itself establish that it is cleared for a YouTube live broadcast.
If you have permission to use third-party material, YouTube says the rights holder may still need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; a license alone may not prevent an interruption. Check the rights and any platform-specific conditions before the broadcast, and avoid playing uncleared songs or clips as background music. See Copyright issues with live streams.

7. Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| No stream appears in Live Control Room | OBS is not sending to the event’s current URL/key, or livestream activation is incomplete. | Recheck the event, stream URL, and private key in OBS. Confirm the channel is eligible and activation has finished. |
| Video buffers or stream health degrades | Upload capacity is unstable, shared, or too close to the encoder bitrate. | Test upload speed; reduce bitrate or output resolution/frame rate, and leave the recommended headroom. |
| Voice is missing or too quiet | The wrong input is selected, the microphone is muted, or its level is low. | Check OBS’s selected audio source and meter while speaking; verify the microphone connection and listen in the preview. |
| Voice clips or distorts | Input gain or source level is too high. | Lower the microphone or source level and test again at the loudest expected speaking volume. |
| Echo or feedback | Speakers are feeding sound back into the microphone, or multiple audio paths are doubled. | Monitor on headphones and check that OBS is not capturing the same source twice. |
| Stream is interrupted after music or a clip plays | YouTube detected third-party content, or a licensed channel is not allowlisted. | Stop the material, review YouTube’s copyright notice, and resolve rights and Content ID allowlisting with the rights holder before trying it again. |
