You can run a Sanskrit shloka meditation stream from OBS by enabling YouTube live streaming, connecting an OBS scene to a YouTube encoder stream, and monitoring the broadcast. The key operational caveat: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive, so a 24/7 plan needs a local recording and a restart or event-rotation plan. Before going live, confirm that you have the rights to every recording and visual you use.
Before you start: channel eligibility, equipment and rights
Check that your channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Its general eligibility guidance also says streamers must be at least 16. Check the current requirements and enable livestreaming on the channel before setting up OBS: YouTube: Get started with live streaming.
Use a computer that can run OBS
OBS Studio is the local encoder in this setup. You do not need to assume that a gaming PC, capture card, or microphone is necessary for a static visual with prerecorded audio. OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard considers your hardware and network conditions; let it help select a starting configuration, then test it on your actual connection. OBS’s setup guide is at OBS Quickstart.
Clear the rights for the actual assets
You are responsible for the rights to material in both the live feed and its archive. YouTube’s livestream terms require necessary rights worldwide, including music licensing rights. A Sanskrit verse’s age does not establish that a modern recording, arrangement, translation, artwork, or visual is free to use. Secure permission for the specific assets and retain the records. Read YouTube’s live-stream terms.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can trigger a warning, a placeholder image, interruption, or termination; an archived stream may also receive a Content ID claim after the event. Even if you have a license, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to prevent a live interruption. See YouTube’s guidance on copyrighted content in live streams.
Build and test the OBS stream
1. Run OBS’s setup wizard
- Install and open OBS Studio.
- Run the Auto-Configuration Wizard and select the option that best matches streaming. It evaluates intended use, hardware resources, and network conditions.
- Keep its suggested settings as a starting point. There is no single bitrate or resolution that is right for every computer, upload connection, and source; use YouTube’s live preview and OBS’s status indicators during a test rather than copying a number that may not fit your setup.
2. Create a simple meditation scene
- In the Scenes panel, add a scene for the stream.
- In Sources, add the visual you intend to use, such as a still image or a gently changing background. Add text for the shloka title or transliteration only if useful to viewers.
- In the Audio Mixer, check which source is carrying the devotional audio. Do not assume desktop audio or a microphone is the correct input; mute sources you do not intend to broadcast and listen to a test recording.
- Review the scene at the intended viewing size so the text remains legible and the image does not obscure other content.
These are content choices, not Sanskrit-specific requirements imposed by OBS or YouTube.

3. Create the YouTube encoder stream and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go Live, then create or schedule an encoder stream in Live Control Room. Scheduling can give viewers a watch page and reminders.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube as the service if available, and enter the stream key. If using a custom connection, enter the stream URL as well. YouTube’s encoder guide explains the connection details: Set up your encoder for live streaming.
- Treat the stream key as a password. It tells the encoder where to send the feed and allows YouTube to accept it; do not publish or share it. YouTube’s stream settings guidance is at Manage your live stream settings.
You can reuse stream settings and a key, and configure options such as DVR, auto-start, and auto-stop in YouTube Studio. Reuse is convenient, but keep the key private and confirm the selected stream in Live Control Room before each launch.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →4. Test before making the stream public
- Start with a short test broadcast, preferably not public.
- Check the Live Control Room preview and confirm the YouTube watch page displays correctly on desktop and mobile.
- Listen for the intended shloka audio and check that there is no unwanted microphone or desktop sound.
- Start a local recording in OBS and verify that the file is growing and plays back with both audio and video.
- Watch OBS and YouTube’s stream health indicators throughout the test. YouTube recommends testing and continuous quality monitoring in its live-streaming tips.
Plan for a continuous 24/7 schedule
Do not rely on one 24-hour YouTube archive
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep a local recording backup and do not promise viewers that a single uninterrupted 24-hour event will produce a complete YouTube replay. The exact guidance is on YouTube’s live stream archive page.

Choose a restart and recovery routine
OBS can encode and send a stream, but the cited setup guidance does not promise uninterrupted 24/7 uptime or automatic recovery for a particular computer and connection. Plan for power, internet, software, and YouTube interruptions: assign someone to check the broadcast, decide how to restart the encoder or create a fresh event, and test any failover method available to you. YouTube recommends checking the preview, testing failover where available, confirming local archive files grow, testing watch-page access, and monitoring audio and video quality; those checks improve readiness but are not an uptime guarantee.
For long-running streams, decide in advance how you will handle event rotation and the possible loss of a live connection. YouTube’s archive guidance does not specify a rotation cadence or guarantee that a particular restart workflow will preserve the whole program.

Make the stream easy to understand
Use a clear title and description that tell viewers what is playing and whether the stream is continuous. Tags generally play a minimal role in discovery except where a topic is commonly misspelled, so prioritize accurate viewer-facing information over keyword stuffing. If you schedule the stream, viewers can receive reminders.
OBS on your computer or a cloud service?
With OBS, your computer and internet connection perform the encoding and must remain available for the broadcast. YouTube describes cloud encoding or relay services as an option that can reduce local-computer workload and may send a stream to multiple destinations. Those services may have subscriptions and plan limits; compare setup, supported destinations, cost, monitoring, and recovery behavior before choosing one. YouTube’s overview is at Set up live streaming with an encoder.
