You can run a 24/7 bhajan “radio” channel on YouTube by sending a continuous live feed from an encoder that plays a repeating playlist. An ordinary YouTube playlist does not become a livestream on its own. Before you build the playlist, clear the rights for each recording and the underlying musical and literary works, then test the stream, plan for interruptions, and arrange a separate archive if you need a complete recording.

What you need for a continuous bhajan livestream

The basic setup has four parts: a YouTube channel that can go live, rights-cleared recordings, an encoder or cloud playout service that can send a live feed, and a visual to accompany the audio. YouTube lists encoder streaming as a supported way to livestream. Your playlist supplies the audio sequence; the encoder or service turns it into the continuing audio-visual broadcast.

  • A live-enabled YouTube channel: Check that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube says streamers must be at least 16. Initial live-stream activation can take time, so confirm access before preparing a launch.
  • Cleared material: Have permission for each specific recording and the rights in the underlying song that apply to your use and territories.
  • A playout method: Use a local encoder such as OBS, or a cloud service that you have confirmed can send a repeating YouTube Live feed.
  • A visual: Prepare a still image or visual loop you have permission to use. Check it alongside the audio before going public.

See YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance for current eligibility and setup requirements.

Clear the bhajan recordings and song rights first

Do not assume that a devotional song is free to livestream because it is traditional, widely performed, or available elsewhere online. The recording and the underlying musical and literary works can involve different rights. The rights needed depend on the exact track, recording, rightsholders, intended use, and territories. This is a practical checklist, not a legal determination for any particular bhajan.

Build a track-by-track rights record

For every item you plan to play, record the title, performer, recording owner or label, composer, lyricist or publisher where relevant, the planned YouTube livestream use, and the territories where the stream will be available. Ask the relevant rightsholders for written permission covering continuous livestreaming and the visual presentation. Keep the permission and any conditions on attribution, monetization, territory, duration, or Content ID together with your playlist records.

Check what each rights organization covers

IPRS describes licensing musical and associated literary works in its repertoire and notes that its representation is limited to the relevant member rights. Those works are distinct from the sound recording. PPL India says it does not issue digital-platform sound-recording licenses and directs users to individual labels. Do not treat either organization as a blanket clearance for every recording or every right. For a specific repertoire or territory, confirm the scope directly with the rightsholder or a qualified Indian copyright professional.

Arrange Content ID allowlisting where needed

YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can cause the stream to be replaced with a placeholder, interrupted, or terminated. YouTube advises creators with licenses for third-party content to ask the owner to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license alone therefore does not ensure the live feed will proceed without an automated interruption. Ask about allowlisting before launch and retain confirmation alongside the permission documents. Read YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

Prepare a playlist that can keep playing

Assemble the sequence only from tracks cleared for the intended continuous YouTube use. Check each file from beginning to end, including its opening and ending, so gaps, abrupt cuts, silence, or unintended material do not surprise you on air. Test the actual sequence in your chosen playout setup: a playlist that plays once is not enough for an always-on channel unless your encoder or service is configured to repeat or rotate it.

  • Keep a written inventory that links every playlist item to its permission and any attribution or territory conditions.
  • Use audio and visual material you have permission to use; rights clearance applies to the visual as well as the music.
  • Confirm the playlist repeats as intended and that the next item starts correctly after a track ends.
  • Decide who will respond if playback stops, a rights notice appears, or the connection fails.

Choose how to send the playlist to YouTube

There are two practical approaches. A local encoder sends the stream from a computer you control. Cloud playout uses a service to send it for you. Both still require the same rights clearance and a working YouTube Live setup.

Decision Local encoder Cloud playout
What sends the feed? A creator-controlled computer and encoder such as OBS A service sends its playout to YouTube
Main dependencies Computer, power, stable upload connection, and monitoring Provider capability, account terms, and provider-side continuity
Local streaming computer A dedicated computer can be convenient, but is optional May avoid keeping a dedicated local streaming computer running
Music rights still required? Yes Yes
What to verify? Encoder compatibility, connection capacity, recovery, and local recording YouTube Live output, playlist looping, recovery, archive options, pricing, and terms

Local playout with OBS

OBS is free and open source. Its stream goes from your computer to the streaming service, so the computer, power, and internet connection need to remain available for the broadcast. Follow OBS Help for the current interface and troubleshooting guidance. A dedicated computer is optional; it is not a substitute for rights clearance or a guarantee that the stream will stay up.

Cloud playout

Before relying on any cloud provider, confirm that it actually outputs a YouTube Live stream, can repeat or rotate your playlist as required, and explains its recovery, archive, pricing, and account terms. Do not infer continuous operation or recovery from a general claim that a service is cloud-based.

Create and test the YouTube livestream

  1. Confirm live access: In YouTube Studio, use the live controls to verify that the channel can stream. Resolve verification or restriction issues before scheduling a continuous broadcast.
  2. Create the livestream: In YouTube Studio, start the live setup and use the stream details YouTube provides. The exact controls can change; consult YouTube’s current setup instructions.
  3. Connect the encoder: Enter the stream details in your encoder or cloud provider as directed by that product. Keep the stream key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
  4. Set the video and audio encoding: Use YouTube’s current encoder guide for the protocol and settings supported by the selected format. Choose resolution and bitrate for the upload connection you can sustain consistently rather than selecting the highest possible quality by default. The published bitrate recommendations vary by format; use the applicable values in YouTube’s encoder settings guide rather than guessing.
  5. Test representative playback: YouTube recommends a speed test and a pre-stream test with representative audio and video motion. Test the playlist transition and visual, not just the opening seconds of one track.
  6. Check stream health before launch: Confirm that YouTube receives the expected picture and sound and review its stream-health messages. Start publicly only after the test feed is behaving as expected.

For an audio-led channel, you still send an audio-visual live feed; prepare and test the visual rather than assuming an audio playlist alone is a YouTube livestream.

Keep the feed monitored and plan for failures

A 24/7 schedule needs an operational plan, not just a playlist. Assign someone to check stream health and handle a rights notice, encoder restart, playlist fault, or outage. Keep the stream key secure and know how to reconnect the encoder using the stream details in YouTube Studio.

  • Dropped frames or unstable output: OBS says dropped frames and a yellow or red connection indicator can mean the connection is unstable or the bitrate is too high for it. Check the internet connection and use a bitrate the connection can sustain; OBS also points users to its auto-configuration wizard for basic settings.
  • Rights warning or placeholder: Check the matched track against the written permissions and contact the rightsholder about Content ID allowlisting. Do not assume that restarting the encoder resolves a rights issue.
  • Playlist stops or fails to repeat: Test the repeat or rotation behavior in the selected encoder or service and establish how an operator will restart or replace a failed playlist.
  • Power or internet outage on a local setup: Restore power or connectivity, then reconnect the encoder using the current YouTube stream details. A local encoder depends on the computer and connection being available.

See OBS Help for dropped-frame guidance, and YouTube’s encoder guide for its connection and encoding recommendations. A test and monitoring plan reduce avoidable surprises, but no setup should be described as uninterrupted unless its actual operation supports that claim.

Plan the archive separately from the live broadcast

YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. A continuous 24-hour broadcast should not be treated as a guaranteed single replay. If you need a complete recording, arrange local recording with enough storage and test the workflow before launch. YouTube recommends a local archive backup; see its archive guidance.

Consider monetization only after the channel and content qualify

YouTube lists one Partner Program eligibility route as 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the prior 12 months, or an alternative route of 1,000 subscribers plus 10 million qualified Shorts views in the prior 90 days. It also requires policy compliance and a channel review; reaching a threshold does not guarantee acceptance or income. Check the current YouTube Partner Program requirements, including the policies that apply to repetitive or minimally changed material, before basing a plan on monetization.
