There is no YouTube Creator Music revenue-sharing formula for a livestream: YouTube says Creator Music licensing and revenue sharing do not support live content. If you want to use a rights holder’s music in a monetized YouTube livestream, negotiate direct written permission with the parties who control the necessary rights. Agree on the percentage or fee, define exactly which income it applies to, and make sure the permission covers the live broadcast and any replay or clips you plan to publish.
Why Creator Music’s revenue split does not apply to livestreams
YouTube’s Creator Music FAQ says the service “doesn’t support licensing for live content.” Its usage details distinguish eligible long-form videos from live streams and Shorts. Creator Music’s licensing and revenue-sharing options therefore are not a route to clear music for a livestream.
Creator Music’s long-form examples—including adjustments to the standard share for certain rights-clearance situations—are not a livestream benchmark. YouTube says those adjustments do not apply to livestreams. Do not use those examples to justify a proposed live-stream split.

What percentage should you offer?
YouTube does not prescribe a universal percentage for a direct livestream agreement. The share is a business term for the parties to negotiate, and the right figure depends on the specific rights, uses, parties and deal. There is no evidence-based standard percentage to quote as the YouTube rate.

Before negotiating a number, decide what “revenue” means in the contract. A percentage without a defined base can lead to disputes even if both parties agree on the headline figure.
- Identify the income covered: Specify whether the deal includes revenue from the live broadcast, the archived replay, clips, or other agreed uses, and which monetization methods count.
- Define the calculation: State whether the share is calculated before or after expressly listed deductions, and how refunds, taxes and platform adjustments are treated.
- Set the accounting method: Name the reporting source, statement period, level of detail and payment deadline. Include a process for correcting errors or reviewing records.
- Set allocation rules: Explain how the agreed pool is divided when multiple tracks or rights holders are involved, or say that separate licenses will be handled separately.
Make sure the agreement covers the rights and uses you need
A song can involve separate composition and sound-recording rights, as well as additional royalty participants. YouTube’s livestream terms place the responsibility on the provider to have all necessary rights for the live content, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, public performance and other royalty participants. Permission from one participant should not be assumed to cover rights controlled by someone else.

Identify the exact track, recording and composition, then confirm which rights each party controls. Define the permitted uses rather than relying on a general statement that you may “use the song.”
- The YouTube livestream and its monetization.
- The territory or territories in which the permission applies.
- Whether the archived replay is included, and for how long.
- Whether clips, promotional excerpts or other edits are permitted.
- The term of the permission and what happens when it ends.
- The process for notices, takedowns or a change in the rights holder’s position.
Direct permission, independently cleared music, or no track

Put the deal in writing
Use this checklist to organize a negotiation. It is a practical framework, not a contract template or legal advice.
- Name the parties and material. Identify the rights holder or holders, the specific track, recording and composition, and the rights each party controls.
- Describe the permission. State that it covers the YouTube livestream, monetization, territory and term. List any archive, replay, clip or excerpt rights expressly included.
- Define payment. Write the negotiated percentage or fixed fee and define the revenue pool, deductions, reporting source, statement detail, reporting period and payment deadline.
- Address multiple participants. Set out how the defined pool is allocated among multiple tracks, publishers, labels or other royalty participants, or specify that separate licenses apply.
- Set an accounting and correction process. Agree how either party can raise a discrepancy, what information supports a correction, and whether and how records can be reviewed.
- Plan for claims and interruptions. State how the parties will communicate and respond if Content ID claims the stream or replay, or if YouTube blocks, demonetizes or removes the content.
- Review the actual rights and terms. Confirm the rights chain and applicable territories, and have the agreement reviewed for the relevant law before relying on it.
How a Content ID claim affects a private split
A private agreement and a YouTube Content ID claim are separate mechanisms. The agreement defines what the rights holder is entitled to under the parties’ deal; it does not by itself determine how YouTube processes a claim or what happens to platform revenue.

YouTube’s rights-clearance guidance says amounts otherwise due to the creator for claimed content may be payable to claimants. Where more than one party claims the content, YouTube says revenues are shared between them pro rata, with YouTube determining the pro rata share in its reasonable discretion. That platform outcome can affect revenue independently of the split in a private contract, so the agreement should say how the parties will handle claims and reconcile the accounts.
