Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo speed up regression testing, reduce unnecessary work in three places: run the tests relevant to a change when selection is safe, split independent tests across balanced workers, and make slow setup or overly expensive tests cheaper. Fix flaky tests too: repeated failures, reruns, and investigations delay useful feedback. None of these changes guarantees a particular speedup; measure results against your own suite and keep broader validation for risks a selected subset may miss.
1. Run the tests that matter for this change
Change-aware test selection runs a subset of a suite based on the code being changed. It can bring likely regressions to a developer sooner, but it is incremental validation—not proof that unselected behavior remains correct.
Make selection safe
- Map code changes to tests using the capabilities and scope of your test platform.
- Run the selected tests for fast feedback.
- When the platform cannot confidently analyze a change, fall back to a broader run rather than treating uncertainty as evidence that no tests are needed.
- Keep broader validation on an appropriate cadence, such as periodic full-suite runs, to cover behavior that incremental selection may not exercise.
Microsoft’s Azure DevOps Test Impact Analysis (TIA) selects impacted, previously failing, and newly added tests, and can fall back to all tests when it cannot reason about a commit. Microsoft documents TIA for managed code in a single-machine topology; its example notes that HTML or CSS changes can trigger a full-suite fallback. These details describe TIA, not every test-selection system. Microsoft’s TIA documentation also describes configurable periodic full runs.
Before adopting advanced selection, first remove stale or ineffective tests, improve test infrastructure, and optimize execution. AWS recommends this order in its DevOps guidance on balancing feedback and coverage.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Split the suite across independent workers
Parallel testing divides tests among agents or machines so independent work runs at the same time. The goal is not simply to add workers: balance the slices so one slow worker does not determine when the whole suite finishes. Azure Pipelines documents parallel execution and test-suite slicing for different test runners; see its parallel-testing guidance. Cypress Cloud also documents parallelization and load balancing in its Smart Orchestration overview.
Check for dependencies before raising concurrency
Parallel runs can expose tests that depend on ordering, shared state, or incomplete cleanup. Isolate test data and fixtures, make cleanup reliable, and avoid concurrent writes to shared resources unless the tests are designed for them. The pytest guidance on flaky tests explains how uncontrolled state and order dependencies can cause inconsistent outcomes.

More workers do not guarantee proportionally shorter runs. Uneven test durations, setup overhead, worker limits, and contention for databases or other shared services can reduce the benefit. Compare elapsed time and infrastructure cost together.
3. Reduce the cost of tests and flaky reruns
Find where time is spent before changing the suite: test setup, browser startup, network calls, authentication, test execution, or teardown. Then choose an intervention that addresses the bottleneck rather than making every test more complex.

Make expensive setup cheaper where appropriate
Cypress recommends choosing a suitable test level, caching authentication, stubbing network requests, and setting state programmatically instead of repeating slow UI setup. Its performance guide also discusses parallelization, tags for CI tiers, spec prioritization, and cancelling a run after enough failures. These are Cypress product recommendations, not universal requirements or independent benchmarks. See Cypress’s test-performance guide.
Use stubs or programmatic setup when the test is meant to validate application behavior without exercising the external service or full setup path. Keep tests that specifically verify those integrations or user journeys; replacing all such coverage with fast isolated tests would change what the suite proves.

Remove causes of flaky failures
pytest defines flaky tests as tests that fail intermittently or sporadically. Uncontrolled system state, ordering assumptions, missing cleanup, and unsafe sharing can contribute. A flake consumes time in reruns and investigation and makes it harder to tell whether a failure signals a regression. Prefer making the failure reproducible and fixing its isolation, timing, or shared-state cause over relying on retries to hide it. Retries may help a pipeline proceed in some situations, but Cypress notes that execution costs can compound when retries are configured carelessly. Sources: pytest and Cypress.

There is no neutral, cross-vendor benchmark established here for these approaches. Record your current elapsed time, failure and rerun patterns, coverage, and infrastructure use; change one major factor at a time and compare the same workloads. That gives your team evidence about its own suite rather than a speed claim borrowed from a vendor example.
