To solve the Unknown Taxi puzzle in Control Resonant, start the challenge at the alley payphone, then use the portable light to project each candidate cab’s shadow onto a wall. Choose the car with a taxi-shaped shadow in the first round; in the final round, choose the taxi whose shadow includes the roof sign. Judge the shadows in your current round rather than relying on a fixed left-to-right taxi order.
How to start the Unknown Taxi puzzle
- Go to the island associated with the Patterned Evac Building and enter the Unknown taxi.
- Follow the objective marker to the alley payphone.
- Use the payphone and choose “Find a cab and get in” to begin the challenge.

How to use the light and read each taxi’s shadow
- Pick up the portable light lying on the street near the intersection.
- Carry it to a candidate taxi and position it so the vehicle casts a clear shadow onto the wall.
- Inspect the silhouette on the wall, not just the parked car. In the first round, select the vehicle whose shadow has the body shape of a taxi.
- After an early selection returns Dylan to the street loop, pick up the light again and repeat the check on the next candidate set.
- In the final round, look for the taxi-shaped shadow that also has the raised rectangular bump of a roof sign.
Some decoy silhouettes resemble other kinds of vehicles; GamesRadar, for example, describes one as resembling an industrial digger. Its The Last Taxi walkthrough says the final group’s shadows all look taxi-shaped, making the roof-sign silhouette the distinguishing clue.

There is no dependable universal left/right order established by the walkthroughs. Nerd’s Chalk gives positional examples—first a yellow cab across from the SPACE FOR RENT building, then a cab farther along the right sidewalk, followed by another right-side cab. GamesRadar and PowerPyx emphasize identifying the correct vehicle by its shadow instead. Treat the positional sequence as an example, not a rule: inspect the candidates in the round you are playing, especially if their arrangement differs.

How to tell whether a selection worked
Use the encounter’s feedback rather than assuming a taxi was correct based on its position. GamesRadar reports that a correct selection triggers a green-light cinematic, while a wrong selection triggers a red-light cinematic. If an early choice sends Dylan back to the street loop, retrieve the portable light and continue checking the remaining candidates.
