Playlist shuffle changes the order in which videos play; 4K at 60fps describes a live stream’s picture quality. They are separate settings. If you mean watching a playlist, use YouTube’s playback controls where available; if you mean broadcasting a shuffled sequence of prerecorded videos, use a player or streaming service that can control playlist order. For a controllable embedded YouTube player, the IFrame Player API provides setShuffle(true).
First, clarify what “YouTube Live playlist” means
A YouTube playlist is a collection of videos, while 4K/60fps is a live-broadcast resolution and frame-rate configuration. You might mean either watching videos in a playlist or broadcasting prerecorded videos in a shuffled sequence. The shuffle steps differ, and changing a live stream’s quality does not shuffle its contents.
- Watching: playlist playback order is controlled by the player. The YouTube Help playlist guide explains saving and reordering videos but does not document a shuffle-button location that is consistent across devices.
- Broadcasting: shuffle the source playlist in the player or system feeding the live stream. YouTube’s live encoder settings govern the outgoing video quality, not the order of items.
How do I shuffle videos in a YouTube playlist?
In YouTube’s regular player
Open the playlist and use the shuffle control if it appears in your current YouTube interface. YouTube’s current playlist help explains how to save videos to a playlist and, on desktop, drag videos to reorder them; it does not establish the shuffle control’s exact location on every phone, TV, console, or desktop version. If you cannot find the control, reorder the playlist or use an embedded player you control.
Using the YouTube IFrame Player API
For a website or app with an embedded YouTube player, the official IFrame Player API documents setShuffle(true). Apply it to the player’s playlist to enable shuffled playback. If shuffle is enabled while a video is already playing, that video continues; the next selection is made from the reordered playlist. Loading a different playlist clears the shuffle setting, so enable it again after changing playlists. See the YouTube IFrame Player API reference.

Can I shuffle a YouTube Live playlist?
If you mean a live broadcast made from prerecorded videos, shuffle the playback source before or during broadcast using a system that supports playlist shuffle. The IFrame API documents shuffle for its embedded player; it does not by itself document a method for changing the sequence in every encoder or in YouTube Live Control Room. Check the playlist controls in the source you use, and confirm the output before going live.

Looping and shuffling are different: looping repeats a playlist, while shuffle changes playback order. YouTube Help documents playlist looping across desktop, mobile, TV, and gaming consoles. Enabling loop alone does not randomize the playlist.
Set the live stream to 4K at 60fps separately
4K/2160p is 3840 × 2160 pixels. For YouTube Live, YouTube’s English encoder guidance accessed in 2026 recommends these bitrates for a 4K/2160p 60fps stream:

| Codec | YouTube guidance at 4K/2160p 60fps |
|---|---|
| H.264 | 35 Mbps recommended |
| AV1 or H.265 | 10 Mbps minimum; 40 Mbps recommended |
These are YouTube’s encoder recommendations, not settings that determine shuffle behavior. The available bitrate and codec choices depend on the encoder and connection you use. YouTube says 4K/2160p streams use normal latency; low latency is unavailable at that resolution. YouTube’s feature table also distinguishes horizontal from vertical live: 4K bitrate streaming is listed for horizontal live streams and is unavailable for vertical live feeds on the YouTube app. See YouTube’s live encoder settings and YouTube’s live streaming features.
Plan for the stream archive
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, and 1440p and 2160p streams are automatically archived. A stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. If keeping a complete recording matters, YouTube recommends making a local backup. See YouTube’s live stream archive guidance.

Troubleshoot shuffle and broadcast quality
- The current video did not change when shuffle was enabled: that is expected with the IFrame API; the current item continues and the next selection follows the shuffled order.
- Shuffle stopped after changing playlists: the API setting does not persist when a different playlist is loaded. Enable shuffle again for the new playlist.
- You cannot find shuffle in YouTube: the official playlist help does not document a cross-device button location. Check the controls in your current player, or use an embedded player with the IFrame API.
- The list repeats but does not change order: loop repeats; it is not shuffle. Use a shuffle-capable player as well.
- The stream is not 4K/60fps: check the encoder’s output resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate against YouTube’s guidance; shuffle settings do not affect any of these.
- The archive is incomplete or missing: streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Keep a local recording if the full program is important.
