To shuffle prerecorded gaming videos in a continuous YouTube livestream, use an encoder workflow: a source or automation system must select and play the files in a randomized sequence, while encoder software sends the resulting continuous feed to YouTube Live. YouTube documents encoder streaming and stream-key setup, but its playlist-loop instructions do not explain how to shuffle files in an encoder. Choose a playback system only after verifying that it supports shuffle, automatic next-file playback, and the end-of-list behavior you need.
How the workflow fits together
The video files are the source; a playback or automation system creates the sequence; an encoder sends that continuous output to YouTube Live. YouTube identifies encoder streaming as a common option for gameplay broadcasts and explains how to connect an encoder using a stream URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance covers the connection, not randomized playback of local files.
Do not confuse this with YouTube’s instructions for looping a video or playlist for ordinary viewing. Those instructions do not establish a way to shuffle prerecorded files as an encoder input. YouTube’s looping guidance concerns playback on YouTube.
Choose a source system that can actually shuffle
Before building the stream, identify software or an automation system that can supply a continuous feed from your gaming videos. Confirm these capabilities in its current documentation or with a test; the YouTube sources cited here do not validate a particular application or its shuffle controls.

- Randomized file selection: It can choose videos in a shuffled order rather than merely play a fixed sequence.
- Automatic continuation: It advances to another file without requiring someone to intervene after each video.
- Repeat behavior: You can determine whether a file may repeat before the remaining files have played, and what happens when the list is exhausted.
- Media and audio handling: It supports your file formats and handles transitions and audio without unwanted gaps, clipping, or silence.
- YouTube output: It can produce an encoder feed compatible with the YouTube connection method you plan to use.
- Recovery: Understand what happens if the application or network connection fails and whether the feed resumes automatically.
Shuffle controls differ between tools. Do not assume that enabling shuffle also means the system will avoid repeats, restart after a crash, or continue indefinitely.
Set up YouTube Live and connect the encoder
- Create or select the live event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or select the event you intend to use. Follow the current encoder setup instructions for that event. YouTube explains the encoder connection process here.
- Copy the stream URL and key into the encoder. Enter the values in the corresponding fields in your playback/encoder workflow, following the software’s instructions. A stream key is a credential that lets an encoder send a feed to your channel; keep it private and do not share it or expose it in a recording or screenshot. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Set the encoder output. Use settings the encoder and your upload connection can sustain reliably. YouTube advises testing before going live, choosing a reliable bitrate for the connection, and monitoring stream health; use its current encoder settings guidance for applicable output recommendations.
- Choose viewer controls deliberately. YouTube’s DVR option lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume a live event. It does not shuffle, select, or reorder the videos sent by your encoder. The available event settings are described in YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance.
Test the shuffled sequence before making it public
Run a private or unlisted end-to-end test first. YouTube recommends previewing the feed in Live Control Room, confirming that viewers can access the event, and checking audio and video quality. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

Separately test the source system’s behavior; YouTube’s preview cannot prove that the files are shuffled or that playback will continue unattended.

- Watch transitions between several files for black frames, unexpected pauses, or abrupt audio changes.
- Listen for continuous, correctly leveled audio and verify that the expected game sound is present.
- Let the final item finish and observe whether the system starts another cycle, stops, or waits for input.
- Check what happens after restarting the playback application or briefly interrupting the network connection.
- Confirm the YouTube preview is accessible and that Live Control Room reports a healthy feed before switching to a public event.
Only start the public event after both the source sequence and YouTube preview behave as expected. When finished, stop the event through the current Live Control Room and encoder workflow, then verify that the live event has ended.

HLS is a delivery protocol, not a shuffle feature
If your encoder sends the stream using HLS ingestion, YouTube’s protocol requirements include TS segments lasting 1–4 seconds, no byte ranges, HTTPS POST/PUT requests, and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments. YouTube lists OBS among encoders that support HLS output. These are ingestion requirements, not instructions for randomizing the source videos. Consult the current YouTube HLS ingestion guide and use HLS only if it matches your encoder setup.
Troubleshooting
- YouTube receives no video: Check that the encoder is running, the correct event is selected, and the stream URL and key are entered in the correct fields. Recheck the preview in Live Control Room.
- The stream connects but files do not advance: The encoder connection does not itself provide shuffle or automatic playback. Check the source system’s queue, playlist, and continuation settings, then test the end of a file locally.
- The order is not random or files repeat too soon: Review the source system’s shuffle and repeat options. Test a full sequence if avoiding repeats until every file has played is important; shuffle alone may not guarantee that behavior.
- There are gaps, black frames, or audio breaks: Check file compatibility and transition behavior in the source system, then inspect the encoder preview and stream health. Test the affected files consecutively before going live.
- The feed becomes unstable: YouTube recommends a reliable bitrate suited to the upload connection and monitoring stream health. Reduce output demands or address connection instability according to the encoder’s current guidance, then run another private or unlisted test.
- The stream stops when the list ends or the computer shuts down: Verify the system’s end-of-list and restart behavior. A local encoder workflow depends on its playback and sending components remaining available; do not assume it will recover or continue without testing.
- HLS ingestion is rejected: Check the HLS-specific segment, request, and rolling-playlist rules in YouTube’s HLS ingestion guide. Those protocol settings will not fix a shuffle configuration.
Copyright and channel-policy checks
Before streaming, confirm that you have the rights needed to broadcast every video and its included music, gameplay audio, overlays, and other material. A file being available online or already uploaded to your channel does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it. Review YouTube’s current copyright guidance and channel monetization policies if monetization matters to you. The encoder setup does not determine whether a stream complies with those rules.
