To show the song currently playing on a 24/7 YouTube lofi stream, add a track-title overlay to your OBS scene. Use a Browser Source for a web overlay, or a Text Source that reads a text file updated by a separate player integration or script. OBS displays the information; it does not detect songs by itself. The right method depends on whether your playlist has reliable track markers, your player exposes track metadata, or you need audio recognition.
Choose how the overlay will learn the current song
First identify how the music plays and where its title and artist information come from. A display can only stay accurate if its metadata follows the actual playback order.
Track order is known in advance
If the stream plays a fixed, curated sequence, a community OBS overlay listing documents taking track titles from YouTube chapters or a video-description playlist. This can work when those markers match what is actually playing. The listing is third-party community documentation, not a built-in OBS capability or compatibility guarantee; verify it with your current setup before relying on it.
The playback software exposes track metadata
A player integration can relay the current title and artist to a text file or web page for OBS to display. The integration is separate from OBS, and supported players and operating systems vary. For example, the Melody Monitor resource describes a Windows playback-metadata approach. Check its current compatibility and requirements before installing it.

The audio source is unknown or mixed
An audio-recognition overlay tries to identify what it hears. Recognition can be wrong or delayed, especially with obscure tracks, remixes, quiet passages, or overlapping audio. Glitch Studios describes a browser-source workflow for its Now Playing overlay and makes performance claims; treat those as vendor claims rather than independently established accuracy or uptime.
Add and position the song display in OBS
- Choose the metadata source. Decide whether titles will come from matching chapter or playlist markers, player metadata, or audio recognition. Confirm the method supports your playback software and operating system, and check whether it requires an account or sends playback or audio data to a service.
- Add the display to your scene. In OBS, select the scene used for the stream and add a Browser Source if your overlay provides a web page. If an integration writes the current title to a file, add a Text Source and enable its text-file input. OBS documents these sources as ways to render a web page or text; neither one supplies track information on its own.
- Set the overlay’s position and appearance. Place it over the artwork where it will not hide important visual details. Preview it at the stream’s intended output size so the title remains legible in the finished broadcast.
- Test actual changes. Watch several song transitions and compare each displayed title and artist with the audio. Also test a pause, a scene switch, an OBS restart, and any stream restart or recovery that may occur in your setup.
- Check for stale information. Confirm that the display changes or clears appropriately when playback stops or changes and does not keep showing an old title after a refresh or interruption. Fix any mismatch before leaving the stream unattended.
Keep track information separate from music rights
A title or artist label is attribution, not permission to broadcast a song. YouTube Help says live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. If a match is identified, YouTube may show a placeholder, interrupt the stream, or terminate it if the content remains. YouTube also warns that even licensed third-party content can be interrupted when the rights holder has not added the channel to its allowlist.

Before broadcasting music, establish the necessary streaming rights and, where applicable, ask the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting. A correct overlay does not prevent a copyright match or establish that you have permission to use the audio.
