For a YouTube radio stream, put stable broadcast information in the stream’s title and description, and use an on-video graphic if viewers need to see the currently playing song as the playlist changes. YouTube’s documented broadcast metadata is not a native per-track now-playing ticker. Keep song titles in their original regional-language spelling, and test your chosen graphics workflow with the exact script and fonts before going live.
Choose where each kind of metadata belongs

The distinction matters: a stream title identifies the broadcast, while a changing song label is a separate presentation problem. YouTube’s Live Streaming API represents a broadcast as one YouTube video and exposes title and description fields for that broadcast; its documentation does not describe a built-in now-playing ticker for individual tracks.
Set the broadcast’s title and description
Use YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room for the broadcast.
- Set a clear overall title and description for the radio stream. Include stable context such as the channel or program name, the languages or regions represented, and any useful listening information.
- Save the changes and confirm that the broadcast details show the intended text.
YouTube documents editing the live broadcast title and description through Live Control Room. Use these fields for information that remains true across the broadcast, rather than trying to rewrite them for every track.
Update broadcast metadata through the API
For an automated workflow, the YouTube Live Streaming API exposes title and description on the liveBroadcast resource. The update endpoint requires OAuth authorization. An update request can set those fields, but preserve any other fields you intend to keep: YouTube warns that fields omitted from an update request may be deleted when they already have values. Follow the current liveBroadcast resource and update method documentation when constructing requests.

An API update changes broadcast-level metadata; it does not, by itself, create a per-track graphic inside the video.
Display the current song as tracks change
If the current title and artist must remain visible within the video image, a rendered graphics layer in the encoder or playout workflow is a reasonable approach. This is an implementation choice, not a YouTube-endorsed overlay product or a feature guaranteed by YouTube. Confirm directly that your selected tool can receive or use changing track text and render it correctly.

Choose a readable credit order
A practical display order is song title, artist, then language or region. Add composer or label when known and useful. Preserve the original regional-language spelling. You may add a transliteration or short translated gloss for accessibility, but keep it separate so it does not replace the original title.
This is an editorial convention, not a YouTube-required on-screen template. YouTube’s Content Manager guidance lists title, artist, record label, and ISRC for sound recordings, and title and writer for compositions. That guidance concerns partner asset metadata; it does not require every field to appear on a radio stream graphic. See YouTube Content Manager metadata guidance.

Test scripts and updates before the broadcast
- Preview the exact script, punctuation, and font in the production encoder or graphics tool. Do not assume a tool supports every regional script or font correctly.
- Test several real track changes, including long titles and names, to check that updates arrive and fit the available space.
- Inspect playback at mobile and television-sized viewing dimensions for legibility.
- Verify the displayed title and artist against the playlist or track source before going live.
Use localization for stable video metadata
YouTube supports language-keyed localized title and description values for a video. Its help documentation says translated metadata may appear in search results for viewers who speak those languages. This can help present stable information about the video in multiple languages, but it is not documented as a way to localize each currently playing song automatically. Captions are for spoken or sung audio, not song credits
Live captions serve viewers who need captions for audio; they are not a structured now-playing list. YouTube’s guidance for the described embedded 608/708 workflow says the workflow currently supports one caption track. For implementation details and supported workflows, consult YouTube’s live caption guidance.

Metadata does not grant music rights
Displaying a song title, artist, composer, or label does not give you permission to stream the recording. YouTube’s live terms place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights, including music rights. YouTube also scans live streams for third-party content; streams may be interrupted, including when a rights owner has not allowlisted a channel despite a license. Review YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and secure the rights needed for your use.
