To show every formula in a Google Sheets spreadsheet on a computer, press Ctrl + ~. To display worksheet gridlines, use View > Show > Gridlines. These are separate controls: formula view changes what cells display, while gridlines are a worksheet visibility setting. Printed gridlines have their own print settings.
Show all formulas in Google Sheets
- Open the spreadsheet on a computer.
- Press Ctrl + ~ to display formulas in place of their calculated results. Google lists this shortcut for PC, ChromeOS, and Mac in its keyboard shortcuts reference.
- Press the same shortcut again to return to the normal results view.
Keyboard shortcuts can vary with language and keyboard layout. If the combination does not work, open the shortcut list with Ctrl + / on PC or ChromeOS, or ⌘ + / on Mac. You can also use the tool finder—Alt + / on PC or ChromeOS, or Option + / on Mac—and search for the command.
Inspect one formula without changing the whole sheet
Select the cell containing the formula and read the formula bar. Google’s formula help explains that selecting a completed formula highlights its referenced cells. To make a long formula easier to read, drag the lower edge of the formula bar to resize it.

- In the spreadsheet, open View > Show > Gridlines.
- Make sure Gridlines is checked. This is a visibility toggle, so turning it on restores the worksheet guides on screen.
This menu path is reported in a Google Sheets community answer, rather than in an official Google help article, and menu labels can change.

If the lines still seem missing
Gridlines are display guides; cell borders are formatting applied to selected cells. If the gridlines setting is on but lines remain hard to see, borders or other formatting may be affecting the cells’ appearance. Check the formatting before changing or removing borders, since they may be intentional.
Show gridlines on a printed sheet
- Open File > Print.
- Choose whether to print the current sheet, the workbook, or selected cells, then review the print settings.
- Look for a separate Show Gridlines option in the print-formatting controls and enable it if available.
Google’s print settings help documents the choices for printing a workbook, current sheet, or selected cells. A separate print-gridlines control is described in the community answer linked above; its exact label may vary as the interface changes. On a blank or mostly empty area, selecting the cells you want to print may help if gridlines do not extend as expected, but this is troubleshooting guidance, not a guaranteed rule for every print setup.

Keep the three controls distinct
- All formulas: use the keyboard shortcut to switch the spreadsheet’s display from results to formulas.
- One formula: select its cell and inspect the formula bar.
- Worksheet gridlines: use the View menu to change the on-screen guide visibility.
- Printed gridlines: configure them separately in the print workflow.
Worksheet gridlines are also different from chart gridlines. For chart-specific lines, Google documents a separate control in its chart customization help.
