To show a still image during a YouTube meditation livestream, add it to an OBS scene with an Image Source, fit it to the canvas, then send the scene to YouTube using a stream URL and key. For a broadcast that must continue while your computer is off, use a cloud option such as StreamNeo: upload a video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. A still image makes the visual simple; it does not remove the need for a working encoder, internet connection, power, or interruption plan.

Set up a static-image stream in OBS

OBS sends the image as the video portion of a live encoder feed. You can pair the scene with meditation audio, but test both picture and sound in YouTube’s preview before publishing.

  1. Check channel eligibility. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. See YouTube’s live streaming tips.
  2. Create a scene and add the image. In OBS, create or select a scene. In the Sources dock, click the plus button and choose Image (an Image Source). Select the still image file. Resize and position it on the canvas so it fills or sits within the intended frame. OBS describes Image Sources as a way to add an image or slideshow to a scene; consult the OBS Sources Guide.
  3. Add audio if needed. Add the audio source you intend to use and confirm it appears on the OBS audio meter. If using prerecorded meditation audio, OBS also documents Media Sources. Listen to the YouTube preview as well as checking the meters.
  4. Create or select a YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select the stream. Copy its stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming settings. YouTube defines the stream key as the information an encoder uses to send a feed to YouTube. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
  5. Set encoder output. YouTube recommends RTMPS, CBR, and a two-second keyframe interval for the listed RTMP/RTMPS settings; H.264 is a broadly supported video codec. Choose a bitrate within YouTube’s published range for your selected resolution, frame rate, and codec, and that your upload connection can sustain. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the relevant combination rather than guessing a number.
  6. Start and inspect a test feed. Start streaming from OBS and wait for the feed in Live Control Room. Verify that the image is framed correctly, audio is audible and clean, and YouTube reports healthy stream status. Test the network and monitoring plan before relying on the setup.

Make the image work for a meditation broadcast

  • Use an image sized for your chosen canvas so it does not appear unexpectedly cropped or stretched. Check the preview at the intended viewing size.
  • Keep the composition readable and calm on both large and small screens. If you include text, make sure it remains legible in the live preview.
  • Use only image and audio material you have permission to broadcast. A static background does not make copyrighted music or artwork safe to use.
  • Check the audio after the video feed reaches YouTube. A correct OBS meter alone does not confirm what viewers hear at the destination.

What a 24/7 stream requires—and what YouTube archives

With a local OBS setup, the computer, encoder, internet connection, and power all need to remain available. A still scene reduces visual complexity, but it does not make the broadcast independent of those systems. YouTube recommends monitoring stream health and describes stopping the primary encoder or unplugging Ethernet as ways to test failover. Those are tests, not guarantees of uninterrupted service or a stated uptime level. Plan how you will notice an interruption and restart or fail over.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its encoder guidance does not promise that a stream longer than 12 hours will be archived in full. If preserving a replay matters, check the current YouTube encoder guidance and plan for local recording or shorter broadcast sessions rather than assuming a longer stream will be saved completely.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping a channel live with uploaded videos. Its workflow is: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. For a meditation stream, prepare a video file containing the static image (and any audio you have rights to use); StreamNeo plays uploaded videos and does not go live from a camera. YouTube’s encoder guide also names Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos, but the cited guidance does not establish whether Gyre accepts a still image directly or state its current commercial terms.

Troubleshoot common problems

  • YouTube does not receive a feed: confirm OBS is using the stream URL and key for the selected Live Control Room stream, and that the key has not been replaced. Keep the key private.
  • The image is cropped, stretched, or missing: check that the Image Source is visible in the selected scene, its file is available, and its position and size fit the canvas. Recheck the preview after making changes.
  • The feed starts but stream health is poor: verify the selected bitrate against YouTube’s published range and your sustained upload capacity; use the recommended CBR and two-second keyframe interval, and RTMPS where applicable.
  • There is no meditation audio: check that the audio source is active and routed to the stream, then listen to the destination preview. Confirm the source file plays and that its level is not muted.
  • The broadcast stops unexpectedly: check power, computer sleep settings, encoder status, and network availability. YouTube’s monitoring and failover tests can help expose weak points, but a local setup still depends on the equipment and connection remaining available.
