To show a radio station schedule on a YouTube livestream, add the schedule as a text or graphic source in the video scene your encoder sends to YouTube. YouTube Studio schedules and manages the broadcast, but the schedule graphic belongs in the encoder’s video composition.
How the schedule gets onto the livestream
Your encoder produces the video viewers see, including any schedule overlay, and sends that audio-video feed to YouTube. YouTube’s workflow separates the broadcast event viewers watch from the stream carrying its audio and video. Google’s explanation of broadcasts and streams describes that distinction.
That means scheduling a broadcast in YouTube Studio does not, by itself, add a schedule graphic. Create or insert the graphic in your encoder’s scene, then connect the encoder to the YouTube event. YouTube supports software and hardware encoder approaches; a dedicated hardware purchase is not established as necessary just to display an overlay.
Choose a format for the schedule
| Format | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed text or image panel | A stable daily or weekly lineup | Quick to prepare, but someone must update it when the schedule changes. |
| Scrolling schedule | A long lineup that will not fit in a compact panel | Shows more items in limited space, but viewers may miss an item as it passes. |
| Web-rendered or externally updated graphic | Frequent schedule changes or data-driven displays | Updates can be simpler, but the source must remain available and render correctly during the broadcast. |
These are production choices rather than features provided by YouTube. Make the current programme and its time easiest to read; list upcoming shows secondarily. Keep station identity visible without letting the schedule overwhelm the main listening visual.

Prepare and add the schedule graphic
- Confirm the schedule details. Check programme names, times, and the time zone viewers should use. Decide whether the schedule is fixed for the whole show or needs to change as programmes change.
- Build the graphic. Prepare text or an image for a stable lineup. If the schedule changes often, use a web-rendered or otherwise updateable source if your encoder supports it.
- Add it to the encoder scene. Add the text or graphic source to the scene being sent to YouTube. Position and size it in the scene preview, keeping important branding and visuals unobstructed.
- Inspect the rendered output. Check that text is legible, contrast is sufficient, and no content is cropped. If the schedule changes during the broadcast, test a programme change before going live.
The audience sees the encoder’s produced video, so inspect that composition rather than expecting a schedule field in YouTube Studio to create the overlay.
Schedule and start the YouTube broadcast
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room, choose Manage, and schedule the stream. YouTube says a scheduled stream can be promoted and viewers can receive reminders. See YouTube’s encoder livestream instructions for its documented workflow.
- Connect your encoder using YouTube’s stream URL and stream key, or select YouTube directly if your encoder offers that connection.
- Start the encoder so it sends the composed audio-video feed. Wait for the preview in Live Control Room.
- Review the preview for the schedule’s legibility, placement, and accuracy, then go live in Live Control Room.
YouTube Help says enabling a channel for its first livestream may take up to 24 hours. If this is the channel’s first live stream, allow for that setup time before your planned broadcast.
