Put the agent’s name, phone number, and a short call to action in a persistent graphic layer in the video feed before it reaches YouTube. Keep the details clear of important property features, then check them in YouTube Live Control Room’s preview and on a phone-sized playback view. Add a clickable contact link to the video description where appropriate; don’t rely on Live Chat for links.
Choose how the tour will be produced
You can send either a prerecorded tour or a live camera walkthrough to YouTube through encoder software. The picture and staffing needs differ, but the contact graphic is composited into the outgoing feed in either workflow. YouTube’s encoder setup uses a stream URL and stream key; looping a prerecorded video is a production choice made in the encoder, not a native YouTube loop mode described in YouTube’s setup instructions. YouTube documents encoder and hardware use generally, but does not prescribe a particular looping application or camera kit. Its encoder guide and live-streaming tips are useful starting points.

Keep the message short and authorized
Include the agent’s display name, a direct phone number, and a concise prompt such as “Call or text to arrange a viewing.” Show only details the agent is authorized to publish. Check applicable local real-estate advertising, licensing, privacy, and filming-consent requirements; these depend on location, brokerage, and whether the home is occupied.

Place it without hiding the property
Add the graphic as a persistent text, image, or browser-source layer in your encoder or streaming software. Position it away from important room details and avoid covering signs, fixtures, or features viewers need to assess. Check readability at the final output resolution and in a phone-sized playback view, not just on the editing monitor.
YouTube’s documented browser-source overlay instructions on its Take a Break slate help page describe copying that slate’s overlay URL, adding a browser source in the encoder, matching its width and height to the stream, and testing it. Those steps concern the break slate; they are not a recipe to use that URL for a custom contact banner. For a contact graphic, follow your encoder’s own overlay controls.
Schedule the stream, connect the encoder, and check the preview
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or schedule the stream and set its title, description, and privacy. YouTube offers public, private, and unlisted privacy settings. Choose the intended setting before sharing the stream.
- Copy the stream URL and key into your encoder. Use the server URL and stream key shown for that stream. YouTube warns that “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Treat the key as a credential: don’t publish or send it to viewers, and use the appropriate key for the broadcast. - Set the output and overlay. Configure the encoder’s resolution, bitrate, and other output settings for the connection and quality you intend to use. Follow YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution recommendations. Confirm that the contact layer is enabled in the actual output scene.
- Start the encoder and inspect YouTube’s preview. Before going live, check that the video is moving, the audio is present where expected, the contact details are legible, and the banner does not obstruct the tour. YouTube recommends testing stream conditions and checking preview and quality; its live-streaming tips cover those checks.
- Verify on a phone-sized view. Look at the final stream preview or playback on a small screen. Confirm the phone number can be read without pausing and that the graphic remains clear across the footage. If the text is too small or covers a key feature, revise its size or position and test again.
Give viewers a reliable way to follow up
The phone number in the video remains visible to viewers who watch the stream in an embedded player, where Live Chat is unavailable. For a clickable destination, put the contact or property link in the video description where appropriate. YouTube says URLs are not allowed in Live Chat, so don’t make chat the only route to the agent. See Learn about live streams.

Check live-stream rules and archive behavior
- Copyright and stream restrictions: Confirm you have the rights and permissions needed for all video, audio, and other material in the tour, and check YouTube’s guidance on avoiding live-stream restrictions. A property tour’s footage, music, and any identifiable people can raise different permissions questions.
- Archive duration: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If the tour loop runs 12 hours or longer, don’t assume the full broadcast will be archived; plan to retain the original recording separately if you need it.
- Property and personal information: Review the footage and overlay for details that should not be made public, and obtain the applicable permissions for filming and advertising. Requirements vary by jurisdiction and circumstances.
Troubleshooting
- The broadcast does not appear in YouTube preview: Check that the encoder is using the stream URL and key for the intended Live Control Room event, that it is actively sending, and that the key has not been mistyped. Keep the key private while correcting the setup.
- The contact graphic is missing: Confirm the correct encoder scene or overlay source is active and that the layer is enabled. If using a browser source, check the source URL and dimensions in the encoder; YouTube’s break-slate URL is not a general-purpose contact-banner URL.
- The number is hard to read on mobile: Increase its size or contrast, shorten surrounding copy, or reposition the graphic. Recheck the final output on a small screen rather than relying on the computer preview.
- The graphic hides a room feature: Move it to a less important area of the frame and inspect it again during moving footage, not only on a still frame.
- Viewers cannot click the link in chat: Put the destination in the video description instead. URLs are not allowed in Live Chat, and embedded players do not offer Live Chat.
- The tour needs to continue after a connection or stream interruption: Check the encoder’s connection and YouTube’s stream-health feedback, then restore the feed. For a prerecorded loop that must continue without a home computer, a cloud option is described below.
