Add the church logo with an OBS Image Source and the service schedule with a Text Source, then place both above the sermon source in the Sources list. You can edit the schedule directly in OBS or read it from a text file, preview changes in Studio Mode, and send the finished scene to YouTube Live. “Nonstop” needs a qualification: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that is not a promise of an indefinitely connected OBS session.
What you need before building the overlay
- An authorized image file of the church logo. A transparent PNG is a practical option for artwork that should sit cleanly over video.
- The service wording and times, including a timezone if viewers may be in different regions. Keep the text concise enough to read at the stream’s output size; for example, “Sunday worship • 10:00 AM ET.”
- An OBS scene containing the sermon video source, such as a camera, capture source, or video source, and access to the church’s YouTube Live Control Room.
OBS’s source guides describe the available source types and controls, but do not prescribe a church-specific layout. Choose a position that does not cover faces, captions, or other important content, then verify readability in the stream preview.
Add and layer the logo and schedule in OBS
- Create or select the sermon scene. In OBS, use the Scenes panel to select the scene for the stream, or create one for the sermon. Add the camera, capture, or video source that will form the background.
- Add the logo. In Sources, select + and choose Image. Create a source, browse to the logo file, and confirm. Resize and position it in the preview.
- Add the service schedule. In Sources, select + and choose the available text source for your system. Enter the schedule, then set its font, size, and color so it contrasts with the video. Position it where it remains legible without hiding sermon content.
- Set the layer order. In the Sources list, move the logo and text above the sermon source. OBS renders sources higher in the list on top of sources below them, so a logo or schedule placed underneath the video may be hidden.
- Check the composition. Inspect the scene at the planned output size. Make sure the schedule is not clipped at the edges and remains readable over both light and dark parts of the picture.

Choose how to maintain the service schedule

For a static schedule, a native Text Source is usually the simpler choice. For a static logo, use an Image Source rather than a Browser Source. OBS guidance: Text Sources, Browser Source, and Encoding Performance Troubleshooting.

Preview changes without putting unfinished graphics on air
- Turn on Studio Mode in OBS.
- Make or adjust the overlay in the Preview pane while the current output remains in the Live pane.
- Check the logo, schedule, sermon framing, and audio setup. When the preview is ready, select Transition to put the edited scene on air.
Studio Mode separates the scene being prepared from the scene viewers currently see. See the OBS Studio Overview Guide.
Connect the OBS scene to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream, then enter them in OBS’s stream settings.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Do not show it in screenshots or public instructions.
- Review the current stream’s settings in YouTube Studio, including any auto-start or auto-stop controls. These options govern starting and stopping behavior; they do not guarantee recovery if the encoder, computer, power, or network fails.
- Before the service, run a private or unlisted test if appropriate. Check the Live Control Room preview, confirm audio and overlay placement, verify the viewer-facing watch page, and monitor stream health during the event.

Set encoder settings for the actual output
Use YouTube’s encoder guidance for the selected codec, resolution, and frame rate rather than treating one bitrate as suitable for every stream. YouTube’s recommendations distinguish H.264 from AV1 and H.265. The guidance also recommends CBR, a two-second keyframe interval (not over four seconds), and supports up to 60 fps. Choose settings your upload connection can sustain, then test and monitor the stream.

See YouTube encoder settings for the current bitrate recommendations by codec, resolution, and frame rate, plus ingestion guidance. YouTube recommends RTMPS for Live ingestion.

What “nonstop” means for a YouTube sermon stream
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That condition does not establish that streams longer than 12 hours are automatically archived, and it is not a guarantee that OBS will stay connected indefinitely. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not promise failure-proof or infinite operation for a single OBS session.
If the church intends to keep a stream running continuously or repeat the arrangement, validate the setup in its own Live Control Room and plan who will monitor the stream and respond to interruptions. Auto-start and auto-stop settings do not, by themselves, provide automatic recovery from a computer, power, network, or encoder failure.

Common problems and fixes
