To share WordPress posts effectively, combine a shareable post URL with social distribution, email notifications for subscribers, and an RSS feed readers can follow. Which controls are available depends on whether your site is hosted on WordPress.com or is self-hosted with Jetpack.
Choose the right way to reach readers
Each channel serves a different purpose. Social posts can help new readers discover an article, email can notify people who opted in, and RSS lets readers choose how they keep up. WordPress.com Reader is another option for people already using that service.
| Channel | Reader control | Automation | Setup and platform dependence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Social sharing | Readers follow or browse on the social networks they use. | Jetpack Social can automatically share new posts, as well as support manual sharing and scheduled re-sharing. | Connect supported social accounts. Available controls vary by hosting and site type. |
| Email newsletter | Subscribers opt in and can use unsubscribe controls. | Jetpack Newsletter can email subscribers when new posts are published, depending on its settings. | Add a subscription form and configure recipients and delivery in Jetpack. |
| RSS | Readers choose a feed reader and follow the site themselves. | Updates are available through the feed; readers decide how to receive them. | Make the feed easy to find and share its URL. |
| WordPress.com Reader | Readers manage subscriptions within the WordPress.com ecosystem. | Reader subscriptions surface updates from followed sites. | Readers use WordPress.com Reader; public WordPress.com sites and WordPress.org sites connected through Jetpack can appear there. |
Automatically share a new post with Jetpack Social
Jetpack Social supports automatic and manual sharing of posts, scheduling a re-share, and sharing previously published posts. Jetpack describes the service as helping site owners share posts across social platforms; availability and account controls depend on the site setup.
- In the block editor, open the Jetpack or Social panel for the post.
- Choose the connected social networks you want to use and enable Auto-share post if that control is available.
- Optionally add a custom message and image. A featured image is recommended for the post to display properly on social platforms.
- Publish the post. Saving it as a draft does not trigger sharing.
Jetpack’s support documentation lists Facebook, Instagram, Threads, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Mastodon, Nextdoor, and Bluesky as connectable networks. Its connection documentation says Twitter/X is not supported.

Check whether your site can change auto-sharing
On self-hosted Jetpack sites and WordPress.com Atomic sites, administrators can use the auto-sharing toggle. On WordPress.com Simple sites, auto-sharing is always on and cannot be turned off. Standard posts and pages are supported by default; custom post types need additional support.
Re-share an older post
Open Posts → All Posts, select a previously published post, and use the Social panel to share it or schedule a re-share. For an evergreen post, write a new message that gives readers a fresh reason to visit rather than simply repeating the original announcement.
Email subscribers with Jetpack Newsletter
Jetpack Newsletter lets visitors subscribe to email notifications of new posts. Unlike a social feed, this gives opted-in readers a direct notification route, but it depends on a subscription list and correctly configured delivery.
- Add a Subscribe Block to the page where readers should sign up, or use the subscription shortcode documented by Jetpack.
- Customize the form text so visitors know what they are subscribing to.
- Choose the newsletter recipients and preview the messages.
- Review whether new posts are emailed by default and verify the current delivery settings in your site’s Jetpack dashboard.
Make consent clear and retain working unsubscribe controls as part of the subscription setup.

Make your RSS feed easy to follow
RSS is a machine-readable version of a blog or website’s content. Readers can add a site’s feed to a compatible feed reader and decide how they want to keep up with new posts. To help visitors find feeds, provide the feed URL on a follow or contact page. WordPress’s RSS block can display a feed when you paste its URL into a page or post; this can also be used to show a curated feed section.
Use WordPress.com Reader for ecosystem subscribers
WordPress.com Reader brings together public WordPress.com sites and WordPress.org sites connected through Jetpack. Readers can add sites, newsletters, and RSS feeds to their subscriptions, then share content or copy a link from Reader. It is most useful when your audience already uses WordPress.com; it is not a substitute for offering a feed or subscription option to readers elsewhere.

Share a post directly and complete the publishing workflow
For a direct share, copy the post’s canonical URL and send it to readers or publish it on a social network. WordPress.com’s sharing guide also documents a wp.me shortlink. Available sharing controls differ between WordPress.com-hosted sites and self-hosted sites with Jetpack, so look for the Social, Newsletter, or Sharing controls present on your installation.
