YouTube has no special bhajan-chat preset; these are standard channel and stream controls.
Set channel-wide moderation and blocked words
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Open Settings → Community moderation → Content controls.
- Under Messages in your live chat, choose a moderation level: None, Basic, or Strict. Basic holds messages YouTube identifies as potentially inappropriate; Strict holds a broader range. With Basic or Strict, review held messages and choose whether to show or hide them. If you take no action, held messages remain hidden.
- In the same settings area, add words or phrases to the blocked-words list. Messages containing or closely matching listed terms are blocked.
Start with a focused list based on problems you actually see. Bhajan channels may attract messages in different languages, transliterations, and devotional vocabulary; overly broad terms can catch legitimate comments. Automatic moderation is not perfect, so review held messages regularly and adjust the list rather than assuming every hold is correct. YouTube’s live-chat moderation guide explains the controls.
Choose who can participate in this stream
- Open the stream in Live Control Room.
- Select Edit → Live chat.
- Under Who can send a message, choose the participation setting. To limit chat to subscribers, select Subscribers; you can also set how long someone must have been subscribed before posting.
Open chat gives first-time listeners the easiest way to participate, while subscriber-only chat can reduce drive-by spam at the cost of adding a barrier for newcomers. You can use subscriber-only chat together with slow mode. Subscriber-only and members-only chat cannot be enabled at the same time. If you set a subscription-duration threshold, tell viewers before they try to post so the restriction is clear. YouTube documents these settings in its moderation help.
Enable slow mode when messages arrive too quickly
- In Live Control Room, open the stream and select Edit → Customization.
- Find Message delay, choose Slow mode, and enter the interval between messages.
- Save the change and check chat to confirm the pace is manageable.
Slow mode limits how often viewers can send messages; it does not decide whether a message is appropriate. The channel owner, moderators, and YouTube channel members are exempt from the slow-mode limit. Use it when message volume is the problem, rather than making every listener subscribe by default. Write a short, clear rule for viewers
Pin or otherwise display a concise explanation that fits the channel. For example: “Please keep chat respectful and appropriate to this devotional stream. No spam or unsolicited links. Repeated violations may result in messages being removed or users being timed out.” This is practical channel guidance, not a YouTube-prescribed bhajan policy.
State any participation restriction plainly, including subscriber-only chat and any waiting period. Rules work best when they describe the behavior you want and the consequence moderators may apply, without suggesting that YouTube has a bhajan-specific rules mode.

Appoint moderators and plan coverage
Because a 24/7 stream can receive messages while the channel owner is offline, arrange moderation coverage for the hours you cannot watch chat. Coverage planning is an operational choice, not a YouTube requirement.
YouTube provides standard and managing moderators. Both types can take moderation actions such as removing messages, timing users out, hiding users, and reviewing held items. Managing moderators have additional live-chat controls, but they cannot access YouTube Studio or Live Control Room, so they cannot change the channel- and stream-level settings described above. Troubleshoot missing or unusable chat controls
- Live chat is missing: Check whether the stream or video is designated made for kids. YouTube disables live chat for content set that way. Confirm the audience designation and stream status before treating the missing control as a settings error. YouTube may also turn chat off when stream content or chat violates its Community Guidelines. See YouTube’s live-stream restriction guidance.
- Legitimate devotional messages are held or blocked: Review held items, then narrow or remove blocked terms that catch devotional words, transliterations, or multilingual comments unintentionally. YouTube cautions that automated holds are imperfect.
- Spam continues despite moderation: Match the control to the issue: blocked words target specified terms, Basic or Strict moderation holds potentially inappropriate messages, subscriber-only chat restricts who can post, and slow mode spaces out viewer messages. These settings address different problems; there is no single best combination for every channel.
- A moderator cannot change the stream settings: Managing moderators do not have access to Studio or Live Control Room. Have the channel owner or someone with the necessary account access update the configuration.
- The menu labels differ: YouTube may move interface labels. The paths here reflect its official help pages as accessed on October 3, 2026; use the closest matching controls in your current account.
