Set up channel memberships in YouTube Studio on a computer: open Earn > Memberships, edit the membership setup card, create levels and perks, then submit them for review. For a 24/7 channel, decide first whether members should get access to chat during a public stream or be allowed to watch a separate members-only stream—those are different perks with different audiences.
Before you create membership levels
Check the current membership eligibility rules, location availability, and channel membership policies in YouTube Help and in YouTube Studio. Access depends on the channel’s account and location, so the option may not be available to every creator.
Plan perks before setting prices. YouTube recommends considering what motivates your viewers and the time and cost required to deliver each benefit. A 24/7 stream can provide an ongoing community space, but membership perks still need to be realistic promises that you can maintain.

- Open the membership editor. On a computer, sign in to YouTube Studio, select Earn, then Memberships. In the setup card for adding levels and perks, select Edit.
- Create your levels. YouTube allows up to six levels. Choose clear names and prices that make sense for your audience; YouTube does not prescribe a universal tier count or price.
- Add perks to each level. Each level must have one to five perks. Higher-priced levels include the perks from lower levels, so describe the additional benefit at each step rather than presenting a higher tier as receiving only its newest perk.
- Review the complete offer. Check that every perk is clear, permitted, and deliverable. YouTube reviews submitted levels and perks against its policies before they go live; its help instructions say review takes about a day, though timing can change.
- Publish and monitor. After approval, use membership information in Studio to review which levels have the most members and monitor acquisition and retention. Use those signals to assess whether the benefits and workload are working for your channel.
Choose perks that fit a 24/7 stream
YouTube’s membership benefits can include badges, emoji, members-only posts or videos, early access, members-only chat, and members-only live streams. For an always-on channel, a recurring chat benefit may complement the public stream; a separate members-only stream or event can be a distinct benefit if you can sustain it.

Members-only chat on a public stream
Everyone can watch the public stream, but only members can post in chat. This keeps the stream open to the broader audience while reserving chat participation for members.
Members-only live stream
The stream itself is restricted to members at the eligible level. This is a viewing-access perk, not simply a chat setting. Explain the access level in the perk description so viewers know what membership provides.

Other manageable benefits
Badges, emoji, posts, videos, or early access may suit a channel that can provide them consistently. Avoid promising unlimited personalized attention or other benefits that exceed your capacity. YouTube says creators are responsible for delivering the perks they offer to members’ satisfaction and that YouTube does not take responsibility for creator perks.
Understand tier stacking and early access
Perks stack upward: a member at a higher-priced level receives the perks assigned to lower levels as well as the higher level’s additional benefits. Keep the full bundle in mind when writing descriptions and assessing the workload for each tier.

YouTube reports that, in its comparison of channels that published at least one members-first video and one public-only video between January and February 2023, the videos performed the same on average. That finding concerns that comparison group and video format; it does not establish what will happen on every channel or with 24/7 streams.
Change a live membership program carefully
Before removing a level, review YouTube’s current instructions for level removal. YouTube says that members at a removed level lose access immediately and receive a refund of their last month’s payment. Consider whether the remaining levels still provide a clear, complete offer before making the change.
