To set up YouTube membership-gifting alerts in Streamlabs, connect your YouTube channel, create a Members alert variation with a gift-specific condition, customize its look and sound, add the Alert Box to your streaming scene, then test it before going live. YouTube gifting must also be enabled for your channel; Streamlabs alert support alone does not make every channel eligible.
Before you set up the alert
- Confirm that YouTube membership gifting is enabled for your channel. Streamlabs’ article on gifting, published May 20, 2022 and last updated September 5, 2025, described gifting as rolling out to a limited number of streamers at that time. It does not establish current eligibility rules, so check your channel’s YouTube settings rather than assuming the feature is available.
- Connect the relevant YouTube account to Streamlabs. Alert types depend on the platforms linked to your Streamlabs account.
- Decide whether you want one alert for a gifting event or alerts for individual new members, and whether a special threshold or membership level should trigger a distinct design.
Connect YouTube to Streamlabs
- Log in at streamlabs.com.
- Open the profile menu and go to Account Settings → Platforms.
- Use Merge for the platform you want to add, then complete the connection flow for YouTube.
- If you use Streamlabs Desktop, check that the YouTube channel is selected for the alert settings you are configuring.
Create a membership-gifting alert variation
- In the Streamlabs dashboard, open Alert Box from the Streaming essentials or left navigation.
- Open the YouTube alert settings and select Members.
- Select Open Alert Variations, then choose Add A Variation With Custom or Default Settings.
- Open Condition and choose the gift condition that fits the alert you want. Streamlabs documents these YouTube conditions:
- Membership gift amount is <amount> — use for a specific gift amount.
- User gifted at least <amount> members at once — use a threshold for a larger group gift.
- Membership gift level is <levelname> — use when the membership level should have its own alert.
- Save the variation after setting its condition and other options.
Choose what viewers see and hear
In the alert editor, adjust the layout, image or GIF, sound, font, animation and duration. Text-to-speech is available depending on the alert type. Streamlabs says the default gifting behavior shows the gifter’s name, the number of memberships gifted and an alert for each new member. Its gifting settings also let creators choose a single alert for a gifting event or display the membership level. Preview the variation while editing so the message and visual treatment make sense for the event it will trigger.
Streamlabs also says Cloudbot automatically alerts chat about gifted memberships. These chat notifications are separate from the on-screen Alert Box displayed in your broadcast scene.
Add the Alert Box to your streaming software
- Streamlabs Desktop: In Sources, select the plus sign and choose Alert Box.
- OBS with the Streamlabs plugin: Open Streamlabs → Widgets, then add Alert Box.
- Other streaming software: Copy the widget URL from the Streamlabs dashboard and add it as a browser source in the software’s scene.
Make sure the source is visible in the scene you intend to use. If it is hidden, covered by another source or outside the canvas, an alert can trigger without appearing where viewers can see it.

Test the alert before going live
- Use Test in the Streamlabs dashboard or Test Widgets in Streamlabs Desktop.
- Check that the alert is legible, placed correctly and not obscured by other scene elements.
- Confirm that the animation and sound suit the alert’s duration and message.
- In Streamlabs Desktop, check Recent Events for gifted memberships as they are received.
A preview confirms the widget’s presentation and placement; it does not establish that YouTube has enabled gifting for your channel.
Troubleshoot common setup problems
- No Members alert settings: Check that YouTube is connected under Account Settings → Platforms and selected for the relevant Streamlabs settings. Alert types depend on linked platforms.
- No gift-specific condition appears: Confirm you are editing the YouTube Members alert variation. The documented conditions are gift amount, number gifted at once and membership gift level.
- The test does not appear in the broadcast scene: Verify that the Alert Box source is added to the active scene, visible and positioned within the canvas. For non-Streamlabs software, check that the browser source uses the widget URL from the dashboard.
- The live event is not showing as expected: Check Recent Events in Streamlabs Desktop and confirm YouTube gifting is enabled for your channel. Streamlabs widget support does not confirm channel eligibility.
