You can set up YouTube channel memberships in YouTube Studio under Earn > Memberships—if your channel, location, and content meet YouTube’s requirements. Choose a sustainable set of member perks, publish the offer for YouTube’s review, then promote it and track how members join and stay. YouTube states that eligible creators receive 70% of net revenue under the applicable Commerce Product Module; that rate is not a promise of any particular income.
Check whether your channel can enable memberships
Start in the Earn area of YouTube Studio and look for the Memberships tab. Availability depends on the channel’s eligibility, location, policies, and applicable terms; do not assume that meeting a subscriber or viewing threshold automatically makes memberships available.
- Your channel must be in a location where memberships are available.
- The channel must not be set as Made for Kids, and YouTube also lists a significant number of videos set as Made for Kids as a concern.
- YouTube lists a significant number of ineligible videos—including Made for Kids videos and music-claimed videos—as a potential barrier.
- You must accept and comply with the applicable terms and policies, including the Commerce Product Module.
YouTube’s broader YouTube Partner Program (YPP) eligibility guidance lists policy compliance, an eligible country or region, no active Community Guidelines strikes, 2-Step Verification, advanced features access, and one active AdSense for YouTube account—or readiness to create one in Studio. It gives two general eligibility routes: 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the preceding 12 months, or 1,000 subscribers plus 10 million qualified Shorts views in the preceding 90 days. Shorts-feed watch hours do not count toward the 4,000-hour route. These are YPP thresholds, not a guarantee of membership access; YouTube says applications are reviewed for policy compliance. - On a computer, open YouTube Studio.
- Select Earn, then open the Memberships tab. If the feature is available to your channel, follow the setup prompts.
- In Add levels and perks, configure your offer. Review the level names, prices shown for your audience, and each perk before continuing.
- Select Publish to submit the levels and perks for review. YouTube Help says this review takes about one day; treat that as an estimate, not a guaranteed turnaround.
YouTube reviews proposed levels and perks against its channel membership policies before they go live. If the tab is absent or setup is unavailable, recheck your channel’s eligibility, location, content, and policy status in Studio rather than assuming the general YPP thresholds alone settle the question.
How many membership levels can I create?
YouTube Help, accessed 2026, says a channel can create up to six levels, with one to five perks per level. You do not need to use the maximum. YouTube’s guidance suggests that many creators begin with one to three levels, then decide whether more are worthwhile after reviewing how the offer performs.

Perks stack: members at a higher-priced level receive the benefits assigned to lower levels as well. That makes the higher level’s extra benefit—and the combined work of fulfilling every promised benefit—important to define before launch.
What perks should I offer members?
Choose perks viewers value and you can deliver reliably. YouTube lists options such as badges, posts, custom emoji, members-first videos, live chat, members-only live streams, milestone chats, a recognition shelf, Shorts, and videos. Use the options available in Studio and check the current membership policies before promising a benefit.

- Begin with a dependable baseline: choose a benefit you can maintain even during busy weeks, such as a members-only post or a clearly scheduled update.
- Make upgrades distinct: higher levels should offer a meaningful additional benefit, not just a more expensive version of the same vague promise.
- Account for stacking: work out what every member at each level is entitled to receive, including benefits inherited from lower levels.
- Set realistic cadence and access: state what members get and when. Avoid promising a frequency, response time, or degree of personal access you cannot sustain.
- Ask your audience: YouTube recommends considering what motivates viewers and asking the community what it wants; use that feedback to shape the offer.
YouTube says creators are responsible for providing the perks they promise; the platform does not take responsibility for creator perks. A simple offer delivered consistently is safer to operate than an elaborate tier structure that creates an unpredictable workload.
How do I price and promote my memberships?
Price for audience value and delivery effort
YouTube advises considering audience motivations, country or region pricing, the value of the perks, and the time or cost required to deliver them. It does not prescribe a universal price formula. Compare each proposed level by the value and exclusivity members receive, likely audience willingness to pay, the cumulative fulfillment workload, and whether you can evaluate that level’s acquisition and retention in Studio.

Membership prices may be edited, but YouTube’s guidance says the price for new members can be adjusted only once every 12 months after the previous price update. Existing members remain at the price at which they originally joined. Check the current options and regional price display in Studio before publishing.
Prepare the launch before asking viewers to join
- Prepare some members-only material or another concrete benefit before launch so early members can see what the offer means in practice.
- Announce the program in a video and explain the offer in an intro video or a clear segment viewers can find.
- Explain why you are launching memberships and how member support will be used. Make clear that the ordinary channel experience remains available to nonmembers.
- Mention memberships in public uploads and add a
/joinlink to default upload descriptions, as YouTube’s launch guidance recommends. - Use members-only content or early access where it fits the offer, and engage members through posts.
Review acquisition and retention
After launch, use the membership reporting in YouTube Studio to see which levels attract members and how retention changes. If a level is not attracting members, reassess its price, clarity, and benefits; if members leave, check whether the promised value and delivery cadence match what they experience. Expand the number of levels only when the audience response and workload support it.

How much of membership revenue does YouTube pay creators?
YouTube’s Commerce Product Module states that it pays creators 70% of net revenue from channel memberships and certain other fan-funding products covered by the module, including Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks. This is a share of net revenue under applicable terms—not 70% of a member’s displayed price, and not an earnings forecast. The number of members, their chosen levels, applicable deductions, and other circumstances affect actual earnings.
YouTube says estimated monthly revenue in Analytics can be adjusted, including for invalid traffic, Content ID claims, disputes, or certain ad campaign types. The earnings overview says finalized earnings appear in AdSense for YouTube. Check the current Commerce Product Module and your own partner agreement for the terms that apply to your channel. YouTube Help, accessed 2026, also states: “There are no guarantees under the YouTube partner agreement about how much or whether you’ll be paid.”
What can pause or end a membership program?
YouTube says memberships can enter paused mode in circumstances including channel termination, monetization policy violations, loss of monetization, or setting a channel as Made for Kids. In paused mode, members lose access to perks, payments pause, and the Join button disappears.

If the channel does not leave paused mode within 120 days, YouTube Help says the membership program ends, members are lost, and their last month’s payment is refunded from the creator’s revenue share. Monitor channel and monetization status, and respond promptly if Studio indicates memberships are paused.
