To run a 24/7 YouTube channel through the cloud service once called Wowza Streaming Cloud, use Wowza Video’s 24×7 channel workflow: enable 24×7 streaming on your Wowza account, create a YouTube Live event, configure Wowza to send the channel to that event, then start the source and check both previews. YouTube eligibility is separate from Wowza access, and a single uninterrupted 24/7 YouTube event is not a dependable archive plan.
Know which Wowza product these steps cover
Wowza Streaming Cloud is now named Wowza Video. The steps below are for a Wowza Video cloud 24×7 channel, not Wowza Streaming Engine. Older instructions may use the former product name, while current Wowza Video documentation and interface labels use the newer name.
Wowza Streaming Engine has a different setup: an Engine application receives an incoming stream and sends it to YouTube through a stream target. Its target configuration should not be confused with creating a Wowza Video 24×7 channel.
Check access and YouTube eligibility first
Confirm Wowza 24×7 access
A Wowza Video 24×7 channel requires an account with 24×7 streaming enabled; it is not available in a trial account. Wowza’s setup guidance says to contact Wowza to enable it. Confirm your account’s current eligibility, billing terms, supported broadcast locations and feature limits before committing: availability can depend on the account and plan.

Enable YouTube live streaming ahead of launch
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction during the previous 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so do this before your planned launch rather than during setup.
Prepare the content and source
Have a compatible encoder or camera/source ready to send content into Wowza Video. A YouTube encoder can be software or standalone hardware; professional hardware is optional, not a requirement if you already have a suitable source. Plan the video and audio output before making the YouTube event public.

Create the YouTube Live event and protect its credentials
- In YouTube Studio, open the live-streaming workflow and create a live event. Choose the event visibility and schedule appropriate to your launch or test.
- Open the event in Live Control Room and copy its Stream URL (server URL) and stream key. Use the primary URL for the Wowza Video external RTMP target workflow.
- Keep the stream key private, as you would a password. Anyone who obtains it may be able to send content to that event. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the Wowza target.
- For initial setup, use an unlisted or test event where that suits your launch plan. Do not begin a public broadcast until Live Control Room receives the feed and displays a preview.
Create and configure the Wowza Video 24×7 channel
- Sign in to Wowza Video and open the Live streams page. Choose Add new, then select 24×7 channel.
- Enter a channel name and select a broadcast location close to where the source originates. An India location appears in Wowza’s API location list as
asia_pacific_india, but that does not establish that every plan or 24×7 mode supports it. Check the locations offered in your account. If the closest suitable location is not available, confirm the options with Wowza rather than assuming availability. - Complete the channel’s source/encoder connection workflow. Use the connection details Wowza provides for that channel in the encoder or source, then start the source so Wowza can receive it.
- Configure the YouTube destination using Wowza Video’s external RTMP service target workflow. Select an output rendition, enter the YouTube Stream URL and stream key from the event, and leave the target username and password blank in this workflow.
- Save the configuration, start the Wowza live stream and start or resume the source encoder. Check that Wowza is receiving the input and that its preview or playback shows the expected picture and sound.
- Return to YouTube Live Control Room. Wait for its preview and confirm that the event is receiving the correct feed before you make it public or announce it as live.
Set output quality and bandwidth deliberately
Choose the Wowza Video output rendition to match the source and the YouTube event’s current ingest guidance. The 24×7 channel mode documented by Wowza does not support 4K, so do not plan a 4K output through this workflow. For bitrate, resolution and keyframe interval, use the current recommendations shown for the relevant encoder and YouTube ingest configuration; the available setup facts do not establish one universal numeric setting for every resolution, frame rate and source.
For the source’s upload connection, YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload headroom beyond the total outgoing stream bitrate. If the source sends to Wowza over a constrained connection, check that the available sustained upload capacity can carry the configured output without saturating the link. Observe the actual preview and stream health rather than assuming a speed-test peak is sustainable.

Wowza’s separate Streaming Engine-to-YouTube instructions call for an H.264 source encoder and audio in the stream. That is an Engine workflow, not a reason to copy its target settings blindly into Wowza Video; follow the selected Wowza Video input and rendition controls for the cloud channel.
Plan for continuous operation and recordings
Monitor a 24/7 stream
A 24×7 channel is intended to stay on, but it does not remove the need for monitoring or guarantee uninterrupted delivery. Keep a runbook that covers source restart, Wowza input and target status, YouTube preview, network condition and who should be contacted if one side stops receiving the feed. A redundant source or network path may be useful operationally, but it is a design choice, not a requirement established for this setup.

Do not rely on YouTube to archive one endless event
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived; a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. An always-open 24/7 event is therefore unsuitable as the only recording plan. If you need a recording, keep a local archive and decide whether to end and restart YouTube sessions before the threshold, accounting for the interruption and any schedule or continuity effects. Wowza Video’s 24×7 stream itself cannot be recorded in Wowza Video.

India-specific checks before going live
Choose the nearest broadcast location actually available to your Wowza account. The India entry in the API’s location list is not proof that a given plan, 24×7 channel or passthrough option is available there. Confirm plan pricing, eligible locations and features directly in your current Wowza account. The available product information does not establish India-specific YouTube ingest differences, required broadband speeds, local taxes or broadcast permissions.

For Indian channels as for other channels, verify that you have the rights required for worldwide use of everything in the live content, including music, and comply with applicable laws and regulations. A continuous loop of third-party songs, videos or other material is not automatically safe to broadcast. The licensing and legal position depends on the content and use; confirm it for your situation rather than assuming that owning a file or crediting its creator is sufficient.
Troubleshoot common setup failures
- The 24×7 channel option is missing: check that you are in Wowza Video rather than a different Wowza product, and confirm that 24×7 streaming has been enabled for your account. Trial accounts do not include this option.
- YouTube does not show a preview: confirm that live streaming is enabled for the channel, then check the event’s Stream URL and key against the Wowza target. Make sure the source is running and Wowza is receiving input before waiting for YouTube’s preview.
- The source reaches Wowza but YouTube does not: inspect the external RTMP target configuration, especially the destination URL and stream key, and verify that the target is started. If the key may have been exposed or changed, update the target with the current key.
- The preview has no audio: inspect the source and configured output for an audio track, then verify audio in both Wowza and YouTube previews. Wowza’s Engine-to-YouTube guidance explicitly notes that the stream must include audio; the same practical check is important when validating the feed.
- Video stutters or the stream drops: compare the configured outgoing bitrate with sustained upload capacity and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Check the source, network and Wowza input status, then verify recovery in YouTube’s preview before treating the event as restored.
- The YouTube archive is missing or incomplete: check whether the event exceeded 12 hours. YouTube warns that streams over that duration may not be captured; use local recording and a deliberate session plan when a complete archive matters.
