To rotate bhajans each week, update an OBS playlist manually, then schedule the YouTube Live event in YouTube Studio. OBS can play a fixed sequence or shuffle and repeat a playlist, but its documented playlist controls do not automatically replace the list on a weekly calendar. YouTube Studio schedules the event; OBS sends the video and audio to it.
Choose the right OBS source for your playlist
For one recording that should repeat, use OBS’s regular Media Source and enable looping. For multiple local bhajan recordings, use a VLC Video source, which provides playlist controls. VLC must be installed for the VLC source to appear; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. See the OBS media sources guide.
Set up a multi-file playlist
- Install VLC if it is not already installed, matching the architecture of OBS.
- In OBS, add a source and choose VLC Video.
- Add the recordings for the current week to the playlist in the order you want them played.
- Leave Shuffle Playlist off for a planned devotional sequence. Turn it on only if you want the tracks in a randomized order.
- Enable Loop Playlist if the set should begin again after the final file. Test the end of the list to confirm the behavior you expect.
Keep the weekly change deliberate
Before each week’s broadcast, update the playlist with that week’s authorized files, check their order, and test playback. Use clearly named weekly folders or saved OBS scene collections/profiles so you can identify the intended set. Playlist looping repeats the current list; it does not automatically swap in a new list on a particular weekday. The documented OBS controls cover playlist order, shuffle, looping, and visibility, not calendar-based weekly replacement.

Schedule the YouTube livestream
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live, then open the Manage tab.
- Schedule a new stream, or reuse settings from a previous stream. Verify the title, date and time, privacy setting, and any reused details before creating the event. Scheduling can make the event appear as upcoming, allow viewers to set reminders, and give you a watch URL to share. See YouTube’s instructions for scheduling a livestream.
- When it is time to connect, open the event in Live Control Room and copy its stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming settings. The key tells the encoder where to send the feed and allows YouTube to accept it; keep it private as you would a password. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Start streaming from OBS. Check the incoming preview in Live Control Room, then start the YouTube event when the feed looks and sounds right.
YouTube scheduling handles the live event, not the weekly contents of your OBS playlist. Reusing a past event’s settings can save setup work, but still confirm that the date, time, privacy, playlist, and stream key are correct for this broadcast.

Run a preflight check before each week
- Playlist: Confirm this week’s files and sequence, play each file, and test whether the list stops or loops as intended.
- Rights: Confirm you have permission for every recording and visual used in the live broadcast and, if you plan to leave an archive, for that archive too.
- Event: Verify the YouTube event’s title, date, time, privacy, and reused settings. Keep the stream key private.
- Feed: YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes beforehand. Inspect the Live Control Room preview, confirm the watch page is accessible, and monitor audio and video quality. See YouTube’s livestream troubleshooting guidance.
- Test: If you are unsure about the production setup, run an unlisted or otherwise suitable test stream before the public event.
Check music and visual rights, not just the song title
A devotional song or traditional composition does not automatically make a particular recording free to use. Check the rights to the sound recording, performance, arrangement, and any image or video, and confirm the permission covers livestreaming and the planned archive or monetization. YouTube identifies public-domain music and music used with permission as safe options; a label such as “free” alone does not prevent a Content ID claim. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A detected match may replace the stream with a placeholder or interrupt or terminate the broadcast. Even if you have a license, a match can still interrupt the stream unless the rights owner adds your channel to its Content ID allowlist. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance. Common problems and fixes
