To turn on two-factor authentication (2FA) for a password manager, open that service’s account security settings, choose a supported second factor, complete its enrollment check, and save the recovery information before signing out. Exact menus and available methods differ by provider, so use the official instructions for your account type.
What 2FA protects in a password manager
Account-level 2FA adds a second sign-in check when you access the password manager itself. That is separate from two-factor codes you may store in the vault to sign in to other websites. Dashlane explicitly distinguishes account login 2FA from protection for individual logins stored in Dashlane: enabling one does not automatically configure the other.
For the manager’s own account, the second factor might be a time-based code from an authenticator app, a security key, or another method the provider supports. Check which methods work with the devices and login clients you use.
Set up 2FA: the general process
- Open the provider’s official account-security instructions. Confirm they apply to your password manager and account type; menu names and available options can change.
- Go to account security settings. Look for a setting named two-factor authentication, two-step login, or a similar term.
- Choose a supported method. Authenticator apps and FIDO2/WebAuthn security keys are options on some services. Email or SMS may also be offered, but availability varies.
- Enroll and verify the factor. For an authenticator app, scan the setup QR code in the app, then enter the current generated code in the password manager to confirm. For a security key, follow the provider’s prompt to register it.
- Save recovery information and confirm your fallback. Record the recovery code or setup secret as the provider instructs, and make sure it is accessible without the device you are enrolling.
- Check the recovery route before relying on 2FA. Confirm you have a documented alternate method or spare registered key if the service permits one. Only then test a fresh sign-in.
Do not scan the manager’s account-enrollment QR code into an unrelated password vault as the factor for that same account. 1Password recommends using a different authenticator app for its own account codes.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Provider-specific setup paths
Bitwarden
For an individual account, Bitwarden’s documented path is web app → Settings → Security → Two-step login. Its help page lists FIDO2 WebAuthn credentials, an authenticator app, and email among the methods. Duo and YubiKey OTP options have plan conditions. Bitwarden says multiple methods can be active and documents a preference order, so consult its current instructions for the supported combinations and recovery details: Bitwarden two-step login.
1Password
Sign in at 1Password.com, then select account name → Manage Account → More Actions → Manage Two-Factor Authentication → Set Up App. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app and enter the six-digit code to confirm. 1Password instructs users to write down the 16-character setup secret and keep it safe as a backup. It recommends a different authenticator app for 1Password’s own account codes. Follow its current instructions: 1Password two-factor authentication.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Keeper
Keeper’s guide describes enabling two-factor authentication in vault security settings, choosing TOTP, and scanning the displayed QR code with a compatible authenticator app. It also documents FIDO2/WebAuthn security keys and says its documented setup flow currently requires a backup MFA method. Because provider flows can change, use Keeper’s live instructions for the exact steps: Keeper two-factor authentication.
Dashlane
Dashlane’s documentation describes account 2FA using the account password and an authenticator token, as well as email verification codes. It also distinguishes the check for signing in to the Dashlane account from 2FA for individual logins stored in Dashlane. See its current instructions: Dashlane Two-Factor Authentication.

Choose a method you can recover
- Authenticator app: A commonly documented option. It requires access to the enrolled authenticator when prompted, so understand how you would restore or replace it if your phone is lost.
- FIDO2/WebAuthn security key: Useful if your manager and login devices support it. Bitwarden and Keeper document this standard and give YubiKey and Google Titan as examples. Check compatibility before buying a key, and consider registering a spare if the service permits it.
- Email or other methods: Some providers offer email verification or other alternatives. Do not assume every method is available on every plan, account type, or login client.
The right choice is the method supported by your manager that you can use consistently and recover safely. A security key is optional; an authenticator app is a valid route where supported.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What if you lose your phone or security key?
Recovery depends on the provider and on what you saved or enrolled. Bitwarden warns that losing the second-step device may permanently lock access unless a recovery code or alternate method is available. 1Password says losing the authenticator or key can prevent sign-in on new devices until 2FA is turned off through an authorized route. Its setup secret can serve as a backup, according to its instructions.
