Set up the Razer Tartarus V2 Pro in Razer Synapse 4: select the keypad, assign each control to an action your game or app uses, then create separate profiles or keymaps for different tasks. Start with a simple layout and test it in the software where you plan to use it; there is no universal best mapping.

Before you start: confirm the model and software

This guide is for the Razer Tartarus V2 Pro, model RZ07-0552—not the separately documented Tartarus V2. Razer recommends its latest Synapse software for customizing the Pro. The device has 31 programmable controls, three dedicated buttons, and a TMR thumbstick, according to Razer Support’s Tartarus V2 Pro FAQ, updated September 17, 2026. Consult the model’s Razer product page for its current software and product information.

Connect the keypad and open or install the current Razer Synapse app. The steps below use Synapse 4, which Razer recommends for new setup.

Assign controls in Synapse 4

  1. In Synapse, select the Tartarus V2 Pro from the device list.
  2. Open its customization controls and select the key or button you want to change.
  3. Choose a supported action, such as a keyboard key, shortcut, or other function that the target game or application recognizes. Razer’s general instructions follow this select-device, select-control, choose-function workflow: remapping keys or buttons in Synapse.
  4. Repeat for the controls you want to use, then test the layout in the game or application. Razer says mappings on the Tartarus V2 Pro save automatically; verify the action works as intended and adjust it if needed.

Map only the controls that serve a clear purpose. For a game, you might assign frequently used actions to reachable keys; for work, you might put common application shortcuts or navigation commands on accessible controls. These are adaptable examples, not recommended universal layouts.

Use profiles and keymaps to separate tasks

Rather than crowding gaming and work commands into one layout, make distinct configurations for the applications where you use the keypad. Razer advertises 24 configurable keymaps across three profiles, with up to eight layouts per profile. A profile can hold a group of layouts, while a keymap gives you a particular set of assignments for a task.

  1. Begin with a straightforward default layout and assign only the controls you need for one game or application.
  2. Create another profile or keymap for a different task whose controls differ substantially.
  3. Use the device’s profile-cycle or keymap-cycle controls, or configure a custom toggle assignment, to switch layouts. Razer describes assigning layouts to profiles and using a custom toggle on its product page.
  4. Test each layout after switching, especially if the same physical control has a different assignment in another profile or keymap.

The keypad also has an adjustable wrist rest; position it to suit your reach and preferred hand placement. Comfort and control placement are personal, so make adjustments based on how the device feels at your desk.

Actuation and Rapid Trigger

Razer lists adjustable actuation from 0.1 to 4.0 mm and Rapid Trigger controls in Synapse. The support material describes the default profile as using 2.0 mm actuation with Rapid Trigger off. If you want to experiment, open the keypad’s Actuation controls in Synapse and change settings gradually, then check how the controls behave in your game. These are options to test, not guaranteed performance improvements or required setup steps.

Snap Tap

Snap Tap is off by default. Razer says it can be enabled or disabled in Synapse or with FN + Left Shift; its default key pair is A and D, and up to four pairs can be configured. Since game rules and tournament policies differ, check the current rules for the specific game or event before using an input-priority feature.

Add a macro for a repeatable action

A macro is a sequence of commands. It can be useful for a repeatable workflow, but whether it is permitted or appropriate depends on the application and its rules. Razer’s general Synapse macro instructions describe creating or selecting a macro, assigning it to a control, and choosing playback behavior.

  1. In Synapse, open the macro controls and create or select the sequence you need.
  2. Return to the Tartarus V2 Pro customization page, select the control, and assign the macro.
  3. Choose a playback behavior that fits the intended action, save the configuration, and test it in the target application.

Keep macros limited to actions allowed by the software or game you use. Razer’s general instructions do not establish that every macro or playback mode is appropriate in every game.

If you still use Synapse 3

Razer says Synapse 3 stopped receiving updates and cloud-service support on February 3, 2026. Its notice says devices already installed can still be configured in Synapse 3, but users who remove devices completely need Synapse 4 for continued customization. Razer recommends Synapse 4 and the Profile Migration Tool for existing profiles. See Razer’s Synapse 3 transition and profile migration notice for the current instructions before moving an existing setup.
