Use a YouTube Live chatbot timer to post a creator-written membership reminder in chat. YouTube’s own membership notifications are tied to specific members-only content events; they are not a repeating chat prompt. For a 24/7 stream, configure the timer’s interval and chat-activity conditions, then test it during a public live broadcast—quiet chat may prevent a timer from posting.
Choose the right kind of membership reminder

For an ongoing public stream, a chatbot timer is the option that gives you control over a recurring creator-authored message. StreamElements documents timers for YouTube Live; Nightbot also documents timers and a public-and-live requirement. Neither service’s documentation establishes that a timer will post under every continuous-stream configuration, so verify your setup in a live chat.
Set up a recurring reminder with StreamElements
- Connect and prepare the YouTube chatbot. Follow StreamElements’ YouTube chatbot setup instructions. The stream must be public and live for the bot to join. Add StreamElements as a moderator in YouTube Studio as directed by its setup guidance.
- Open the timer dashboard. In StreamElements, go to the chatbot’s Timers area. Create a timer, give it a recognizable name, enter the reminder text, set the online interval in minutes, and activate it. The StreamElements chatbot setup guide describes the timer workflow.
- Set the chat-activity threshold. Review the timer’s required chat lines and any other conditions. StreamElements timers can require a number of messages during the last five minutes; this can prevent a bot from posting into an inactive chat. On a 24/7 channel, decide whether that safeguard fits quiet hours, and adjust it with care rather than assuming the interval alone guarantees a post. See StreamElements’ timer documentation.
- Test while publicly live. Check that the bot has joined and that the message appears in chat. When checking the bot, select YouTube’s Live chat rather than Top chat, which can hide bot messages, according to StreamElements’ YouTube support guidance.
- Recheck during quiet periods. Observe whether the timer fires when chat activity is low. If it does not, check the minimum-lines threshold and other conditions before changing the interval. A timer can be configured to run at an interval while still being held back by its activity gate.
Write a useful, low-pressure message
Keep the reminder short and accurate. Say that membership is optional, describe a real perk only if your channel offers it, and direct viewers to the channel’s Join option or its own membership page. Do not imply that joining changes access to the public stream unless you have configured that change. Avoid promising that chat will see the message at a fixed cadence when a chat-lines condition can suppress it.

Nightbot as an alternative
Nightbot documents a timer with configurable interval and chat-line requirements. Its YouTube setup documentation says the bot joins only when the channel is public and live. The same practical caveat applies: a quiet-chat condition may prevent a reminder from appearing, so confirm behavior on your own channel rather than treating the interval as a guaranteed schedule. Use YouTube membership tools for program management
YouTube Studio’s Memberships tab and Analytics are for managing and measuring the membership program, not for creating a repeating chat timer. YouTube says that if someone joins while the creator is offline, the creator does not receive a notification; membership information can be reviewed in the Memberships tab. A public-to-members-only live-stream transition is another distinct, event-based option: YouTube documents a countdown and viewer notification for switching while already live, and says a members-only stream cannot be scheduled in advance as such. Troubleshoot a reminder that does not appear
- The bot has not joined: Confirm that the broadcast is public and live, and that you completed the channel’s moderator setup. StreamElements and Nightbot both document the public/live prerequisite.
- The timer interval passed but nothing posted: Check the chat-lines threshold for the recent five-minute period and review any other timer conditions. The interval does not override a failed activity condition.
- You cannot see the message: Switch from Top chat to Live chat while checking the broadcast; Top chat can hide bot messages.
- You expected YouTube to post a repeating prompt: YouTube’s member notifications relate to members-only content events. Configure a chatbot timer for a creator-written recurring live-chat reminder.
- The reminder promises access that viewers do not have: Edit the text to describe only actual benefits and settings. Members-only live chat restricts who can post, while the public can still view the public stream.
