To set up Prime Video parental controls, create an Account PIN, then configure age-based viewing restrictions under Account & Settings → Permissions on a PC or Mac. Choose which devices the viewing restriction applies to: it is not automatically shared across devices. Purchase restrictions cover every profile on the account, while Fire TV has separate parental controls that you must set on the device.
How to set up parental controls on Prime Video
Use these steps to establish a PIN, limit age-rated viewing, and decide how purchases are protected. Amazon’s instructions checked on October 4, 2026, describe the web settings for PC or Mac; labels can vary by marketplace, app version, or device.
1. Create an Account PIN
- On the Prime Video website, open Your Profiles.
- Choose Edit profile, then select the account holder profile.
- Choose Manage beside Account PIN and locks. Sign in with your Amazon account details if prompted.
- Select Create beside Prime Video Account PIN, enter a PIN, and continue.
The Account PIN can be used to lock the account holder profile, bypass purchase and viewing restrictions, override profile-lock PINs, and restrict profile creation or removal. Amazon’s instructions describe Account and Profile PINs as applying across devices. See Amazon’s Account PIN instructions.
2. Set age-based viewing restrictions
- On a PC or Mac, open Account & Settings → Permissions.
- Select the age restriction you want and the devices it should apply to.
- Save the setting. Confirm it is configured for each device the child uses.
Viewing restrictions apply only to the device on which they are configured, so setting a restriction on one device does not make it universal. For the official steps, see Amazon’s viewing-restriction instructions.

3. Decide whether to restrict purchases
Purchase restrictions apply across all profiles on the Amazon account. The Account PIN is used to bypass purchasing restrictions and restrictions on creating subscriptions. These account-wide purchase controls are distinct from device-specific viewing limits.
What a Kids profile does—and does not do
A Kids profile provides a filtered viewing environment: it shows movies and shows rated 12 and under and filters search results and suggestions. Purchases are unavailable in Kids profiles.

Downloads are an important exception. A Kids profile can still access downloads, including downloads made from an adult profile. To make it harder to switch to an adult profile or alter profiles, PIN-lock adult profiles and restrict profile creation. Prime Video allows up to six profiles on one Amazon account: the default profile plus as many as five additional adult or Kids profiles. Why Prime Video parental controls may not work on Fire TV
Fire TV has its own device-level parental controls for content and purchasing. Configure those controls directly on the Fire TV device; do not assume that choosing a device for web viewing restrictions replaces Fire TV’s separate settings.
