To loop a locally stored grocery promotion on YouTube Live, create an encoder event in YouTube Studio, play the video repeatedly in OBS, send OBS’s output to the event, and check the complete loop in preview before making the stream public. The video runs on your computer, so OBS depends on that computer staying powered on and connected to a stable internet upload connection.
Before you start
- An OBS-equipped computer with the promotion video stored locally. OBS sends media available on the computer; this workflow is not for looping a YouTube-hosted video URL.
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days; the minimum age for live streaming is 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- A stable upload connection with enough sustained capacity for your chosen video settings.
- A promotion video and all of its components—music, voiceover, product imagery, and footage—that you are authorized to stream.
Check the video’s prices, offer terms, dates, and stock conditions against the campaign before scheduling. Platform setup guidance does not establish whether a particular promotion meets India-specific advertising, food-labeling, consumer-protection, tax, or music-rights requirements; review those matters through your normal campaign process.
Create the YouTube Live event
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Choose the encoder workflow to create or schedule the promotion event.
- Open the event’s stream settings and obtain the server or ingest details and stream key that YouTube provides.
- Keep the stream key private. Anyone who gets it may be able to send video to your channel’s ingest endpoint. Use YouTube’s current encoder instructions for the event settings and connection details: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Set up a repeating video source in OBS
- In OBS, create or select a scene for the promotion.
- Add the local video as a media playlist source. One commonly described approach is OBS’s VLC Video source: add the promotion file or files, then enable loop (or shuffle if you deliberately want a randomized order). Source options and labels can vary by installed OBS build, so verify the controls in your version. The OBS Project’s Knowledge Base links to its Quick Start Guide and other topic resources.
- Set the source to start as intended and check what the scene displays when the file ends. Confirm the video restarts instead of leaving a blank screen or stopping. If you use multiple files, check their order and whether shuffle is on or off.
- Add any necessary scene elements, such as a retailer logo or offer text, and preview them over the video. Make sure important prices and terms remain readable on screen.

Configure OBS output for YouTube
Use the YouTube event’s encoder instructions and select RTMPS where available. YouTube’s current guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS, CBR, H.264/H.265/AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, frame rates up to 60 fps, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. These are YouTube’s published recommendations, accessed in 2026, not a guarantee that a particular Indian internet provider or connection will sustain the selected rate. Measure your upload speed and leave headroom for fluctuations. A steady 720p30 output may be a sensible starting point if the connection is limited; choose 1080p30 when the upload is stable and small offer text needs more detail. YouTube transcodes live streams for viewers, so the incoming encoder feed and each viewer’s output quality are not necessarily identical.
In OBS, use the event’s stream details to connect to YouTube, then set the output resolution, frame rate, bitrate, rate control, keyframe interval, and audio format to match the chosen YouTube-compatible configuration. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned stream, and checking stream health and messages before the event: YouTube encoder settings and testing guidance.

Test the stream before making it public
- Start the OBS encoder output while the YouTube event is still in preview. Confirm that the event receives the feed and that stream health does not show a problem.
- Check the image, audio level, offer text, and any overlays. Listen for clipping, silence, or audio that ends before the video.
- Let the video reach its end and watch it restart. A working preview at the beginning does not prove that the end-to-start transition works; test the whole boundary and check for a blank frame, unintended pause, abrupt audio cut, or stopped source.
- Once the feed and complete loop behave as intended, use YouTube Studio/Live Control Room to make the event public or go live, as appropriate to the event setup. Keep an operator available to monitor stream health and audio and, if relevant, chat or customer questions.
Common problems and fixes
- YouTube does not receive the OBS feed: Check that you used the stream details for the correct event and that the stream key was entered correctly. Confirm the channel is eligible to stream and that OBS is actually sending output.
- Stream health reports instability: Test upload capacity again and lower the output bitrate or resolution if the connection cannot sustain it. YouTube advises choosing a quality the connection can support; a published bitrate recommendation is not a substitute for a real connection test.
- The video plays once and stops: Recheck the selected source’s loop control and confirm the source is configured to restart. Test through the end of the file, not only the opening seconds.
- The scene goes blank between plays: Inspect the source’s end behavior and preview the complete transition. If a playlist is used, verify the files and playlist order, and test both the transition between files and the final return to the first item.
- Offer text is hard to read: Check the live preview at the intended viewing size. Consider a higher output resolution if the connection can reliably sustain it, or enlarge and simplify the text in the promotion itself.
- Music or narration is missing or distorted: Check the OBS audio source and levels, then listen to the YouTube preview. Confirm the video itself has the intended audio track and that its rights cover the planned stream.
YouTube policy and campaign checks
YouTube says live content must follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Separately, confirm you have permission for every media element and that advertised prices, dates, availability, and conditions are accurate for the campaign.
