To run a Hindi church prayer stream on YouTube with OBS, verify that your channel can go live, build a simple scene with the required video and audio sources, connect OBS using YouTube’s stream key, and test a conservative encoder profile before relying on it. OBS can keep sending a live feed while the computer and connection remain healthy; it does not guarantee unattended 24/7 operation. For a live prayer gathering, plan for someone to monitor the stream and respond to failures.
1. Check that the YouTube channel is ready
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days. If this is the channel’s first live stream, enable live streaming in advance: YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours. Check eligibility and set up the broadcast in YouTube’s encoder streaming guide.
Decide whether your first tests should be private or unlisted, and confirm the broadcast’s privacy setting before starting. A public test may notify viewers or appear on the channel.

Install and open OBS Studio, then run Tools → Auto-Configuration Wizard. The wizard uses your intended use, hardware, and network conditions to suggest a starting configuration; treat its result as a starting point, not proof the computer can stream continuously. OBS notes that encoding load varies with the encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity, and meeting minimum system requirements does not guarantee good streaming performance. Add only the sources you need
Create a scene for the broadcast and add the appropriate sources: a devotional image or camera, readable Hindi title or prayer text if useful, and an audio source for the prayer leader or worship feed. For a static image and spoken prayer, 30 fps is a reasonable starting point to test; choose the final resolution based on the detail you need and what the computer and connection can sustain.
For audio, select the intended microphone or sound-system feed. In OBS, check the Audio Mixer while someone speaks or plays representative worship audio. If the expected source is missing, open Settings → Audio and select the correct device. Listen from a separate phone or computer as well as watching the OBS meters: meters show signal, not whether the sound is clear, intelligible, or free of clipping.

3. Connect OBS to YouTube
- In YouTube Studio, choose Go Live and create or select the broadcast. Open its stream settings in Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the broadcast. YouTube’s live stream settings guide explains these settings.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Choose YouTube if it is available, then enter the stream key; otherwise use the stream URL and key supplied by YouTube as the service setup requires.
- Save the settings, return to the main OBS window, and check that the intended scene and audio sources are active.
Treat the stream key like a password: do not show it in screenshots, share it in chat, or place it in public documents. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update OBS with the new key.
4. Choose settings you can sustain
For YouTube RTMP/RTMPS using H.264, YouTube recommends CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and no more than four seconds between keyframes. Its recommended H.264 ingest bitrates include these examples in the current guidance, accessed in 2026:

These are encoder ingest recommendations, not a promise that an internet plan or a single speed-test result will deliver an uninterrupted stream. Run an upload speed test and choose a setting with practical headroom for normal variation. YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS and recommends 128 Kbps stereo audio. Prioritize clear, unclipped speech over a high frame rate. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
5. Test before the prayer stream
- Make a local recording or a short private/unlisted test broadcast using the actual scene, microphone route, and representative prayer-room sound. OBS Project advises running a test for a few minutes rather than beginning with the first real broadcast.
- Start the encoder and check the preview in YouTube Live Control Room before publishing. Confirm the image, Hindi text, and audio on the YouTube watch page, preferably from a second device.
- Check YouTube’s stream-health indicators and listen for hum, echo, clipping, dropouts, or audio that is too quiet. Adjust the source or mixer route and test again.
- For a scheduled event, YouTube suggests setting up the encoder event at least two hours ahead, starting the encoder at least 15 minutes early, checking the preview, and continuously monitoring audio and video. These are useful preparation timings, not special 24/7 requirements.
YouTube’s advice is to “Continuously monitor streams for audio and video quality.” Keep a person or an agreed process available to notice problems and respond; a green preview before the stream begins cannot detect a later power, network, or audio failure. See YouTube’s live streaming tips.

6. Plan for recording and recovery
Reconnecting does not remove the need for oversight
OBS has an automatic reconnect option that may help after a dropped connection, but it cannot prevent failures caused by a power cut, internet outage, operating-system update, hardware fault, or a muted or missing audio input. Test recovery before depending on it, and have a person who can check the encoder and YouTube preview when something goes wrong. OBS’s overview guide describes its streaming controls.
Keep an archive if the recording matters
OBS can record while streaming, but recording uses additional computer resources. OBS recommends MKV for local recording because an ungraceful stop will not corrupt the entire file; verify that the output file grows and that storage is available. YouTube’s encoder instructions say streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a longer continuous broadcast will be archived automatically; make a separate local recording if an archive is important, then verify it. 7. Check copyright before using worship recordings
Copyrighted music or recordings can interrupt or terminate a live stream. A license by itself may not prevent an interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel. Confirm that the church has the necessary rights for every recording or musical work used, and ask the rights owner about allowlisting where applicable. YouTube explains the issue in its copyright guidance for live streams.
