You can use OBS to send a dealership’s camera and audio to YouTube Live, but OBS alone cannot guarantee an uninterrupted, indefinite broadcast. First enable live streaming on the channel, build and test an OBS scene, connect it to a YouTube encoder stream, and monitor the broadcast. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; its guidance does not promise that one stream can run indefinitely.
Before broadcast day: check the YouTube channel
The dealership needs a verified YouTube channel eligible to go live. YouTube’s current eligibility guidance says the streamer must be at least 16 and the channel must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so activate it well before the planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
In YouTube Studio, review the broadcast’s visibility and audience settings before creating a public stream. Decide who at the dealership is responsible for the channel and stream key; treat that key like a password, and replace it in Studio if it is exposed.

Choose the picture around what viewers need to see: a clean, well-lit vehicle bay, close-ups of a car’s interior and exterior, or a presenter explaining a vehicle. A fixed camera can work for a static scene; a microphone is useful if someone will speak. YouTube’s encoder instructions support external video and audio equipment but do not require a particular camera or dealer-specific scene design.

- Add the sources in OBS. Add the appropriate video-capture source and audio input, then arrange and size them in the scene.
- Check the output. Confirm the camera framing is correct and that OBS’s audio meters respond to speech without clipping. Listen to a short recording or test output to catch muted, distorted, or unintended audio.
For OBS-specific help with the installed version, consult the OBS Project Help Portal; available encoder choices and menus can vary with the computer and OBS version.
Create the YouTube encoder stream and connect OBS
- Create or schedule the stream. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or schedule an encoder stream. Set its title, visibility, and other broadcast details.
- Copy the connection details. In the stream setup, copy YouTube’s server URL and stream key.
- Enter them in OBS. Open OBS’s stream settings, select YouTube or a custom service as appropriate for the installed version, and enter the server URL and key. If the version offers a YouTube connection flow, that may provide another way to connect the account.
- Start and verify the signal. Start streaming in OBS, then check YouTube Studio for the incoming signal, preview, and stream-health status. Do not rely on or announce the public broadcast until the preview and health information look sound.
YouTube documents this encoder workflow in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. Never share the stream key publicly; rotate it in Studio if it is compromised.

Choose OBS settings that fit the dealership’s upload connection
Use YouTube’s recommended encoder settings as a starting point, not as a guarantee that the dealership’s network can sustain them. YouTube recommends testing the actual setup, using CBR, setting a two-second keyframe interval, and using RTMPS when available. Its H.264 recommendations include these video bitrates:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →| H.264 output | YouTube-recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 480p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
For a mostly static showroom shot, a conservative initial profile is 1280×720 at 30 fps, H.264, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and AAC stereo audio at 128 kbps. YouTube lists a recommended stereo audio sample rate of 44.1 kHz. Its guidance says not to exceed a four-second keyframe interval. These are YouTube recommendations; publication year is not displayed on the cited settings page.

- Run a speed test from the actual streaming location and test over time, rather than relying on a brief peak. Leave capacity beyond the configured stream bitrate for network overhead and normal variation.
- Use representative scene movement and audio during the test. A stationary image may conceal problems that appear when a presenter moves a camera or demonstrates a vehicle.
- If YouTube’s stream-health panel reports trouble, lower the resolution or bitrate and test again. Prefer a stable picture over a sharper setting the connection cannot sustain.
YouTube’s official encoder-settings page says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” See Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Plan what “continuous” means for the dealership
A continuously available channel needs a plan for monitoring and interruptions, not just a high bitrate. YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish a guaranteed indefinite single broadcast or automatic failover, and it does not guarantee that a stream crossing the 12-hour mark will be archived as one complete video.

- Choose an intended session duration and check YouTube Studio’s current controls before deciding how to handle longer operation.
- Where practical, dedicate the streaming computer and internet connection to the broadcast. Assign someone to watch stream-health messages and decide who will restart OBS or create a replacement broadcast if the signal drops.
- Confirm that the dealership has rights to all video, music, and other material in the broadcast. YouTube’s cited encoder pages do not establish Indian advertising, vehicle-pricing, consumer-protection, or music-rights requirements; check the rules applicable to the dealership and its content separately.
YouTube’s encoder guidance provides no guarantee of 24/7 uptime. The dealership’s own network, equipment, staffing, and session plan determine how reliably it can maintain a live presence.

Troubleshooting common setup problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube will not enable live streaming | The channel is not eligible, or first-time enablement is still pending. | Check channel eligibility and allow up to 24 hours for initial enablement before the planned broadcast. |
| YouTube Studio does not receive OBS’s signal | The stream has not been started, or the server URL or stream key is wrong. | Compare OBS’s entered values with the current stream details in Studio. Start streaming in OBS and check the preview again. |
| Stream health reports instability | The chosen output may exceed sustained upload capacity or the connection may vary. | Test from the streaming location; reduce bitrate or resolution and repeat the test until the signal is stable. |
| Viewers cannot hear the presenter | The wrong audio input may be selected, muted, disconnected, or not producing a signal. | Check the OBS audio meters, microphone connection, and selected input; make a test recording or preview before going public. |
| The broadcast stops during a long operation | The connection, computer, or stream session has failed; a single session is not guaranteed to continue indefinitely. | Have a designated monitor check Studio, restart OBS or create a replacement stream as appropriate, and confirm the new preview before relying on it. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a loop of pre-recorded dealership videos rather than a live camera view, StreamNeo is an alternative: upload the video or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. It runs from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at the dealership; it plays uploaded videos, not a camera feed.
