You can use OBS to send a music stream to YouTube from a low-end Indian laptop, but no settings can guarantee that an unspecified laptop, power supply, and internet connection will stay live for 24 hours. Start with a simple static scene at 30 fps, choose a bitrate your upload connection can sustain, and test the complete setup before committing to a long session. This guide walks through the setup and explains where a locally run stream can fail.
Before you start: check the channel, laptop, and connection
You need OBS Studio, access to the YouTube channel’s Live Control Room, a stable internet connection, and music you have permission to livestream. Your exact CPU, graphics hardware, cooling, upload speed, and power situation determine which settings will work; the recommendations below are cautious starting points, not a promise of 24/7 uptime.
- Check live-stream eligibility and timing. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. If this is the account’s first livestream, YouTube says enabling livestreaming can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Check upload speed. YouTube recommends testing your upload connection and selecting a quality it can reliably support. Use a speed test, but also test the actual stream: a single speed-test result does not establish what your connection can sustain continuously.
- Plan for continuous operation. A locally hosted stream depends on the laptop, OBS, power, and internet remaining operational. Consider whether the computer can run for long periods without overheating or losing power, and whether your connection has enough consistent upload capacity.
- Secure the music rights. Use tracks you have the necessary rights and permissions to broadcast. The technical setup does not establish that music is cleared for livestream use or predict YouTube’s Content ID outcome.
Create a YouTube stream and protect its key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room.
- Create or schedule a stream, then set its title, visibility, and other details as needed.
- Copy the stream’s server URL and stream key from YouTube’s setup screen. Treat the key like a password: do not display it in a scene, screenshot, or public post. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube before streaming again.
- Keep the Live Control Room available for the connection and health checks later in this guide. YouTube’s exact Live Control Room sequence depends on the stream setup you choose.
Connect OBS and build a lightweight music scene
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Select YouTube if it is available, or choose the server information provided by YouTube, and enter the stream key. OBS’s overview guide describes choosing a service or server and entering the key.
- Create a scene for the broadcast. For a static music stream, keep it simple: add one image or other lightweight visual source and the chosen music audio source. OBS scenes and sources are the building blocks for combining images, text, and media.
- Check the audio source in the OBS mixer. Confirm that the music is audible and that the level does not peak into clipping during loud passages. Make sure the visual does not cover important stream information or reveal your stream key.
Choose conservative video and encoder settings
Start with a simple resolution and 30 fps
Set the canvas to match the visual you are using, then set Output (Scaled) Resolution to the resolution you intend to send to YouTube. Begin testing at 30 fps rather than 60 fps: OBS warns that 60-fps streaming can be substantially more demanding. A static image or low-motion visual usually has no practical need for 60 fps. Whether even 30 fps is stable depends on the laptop and must be tested.

YouTube’s current encoder settings page provides these H.264 bitrate figures; they are service-side guidance, not a requirement to choose the highest resolution or bitrate:
#1 Best Overall
- 256 GB SSD of storage.
- Multitasking is easy with 16GB of RAM
- Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.
| Output | YouTube H.264 bitrate range |
|---|---|
| 480p at 30 fps | 0.4 Mbps minimum; 4 Mbps recommended |
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps minimum; 8 Mbps recommended |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps minimum; 14 Mbps recommended |
These figures are from YouTube’s encoder settings page, current when accessed in 2026. Choose a bitrate below the upload capacity your connection can sustain consistently, then verify it with a real test stream. If upload varies, reduce the output resolution or bitrate rather than insisting on a higher-quality setting that repeatedly drops frames.
Set the video encoder and keyframe interval
YouTube’s live encoder guidance specifies RTMP or RTMPS transport, H.264, H.265, or AV1 video, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. In OBS, use the options available for your selected encoder and stream service; do not assume every codec or encoder is available on every laptop or accepted in every configuration. YouTube’s reference is at Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

OBS may offer a hardware encoder through supported graphics or media hardware. OBS’s x264 streaming guide explains the CPU-load trade-off and names NVENC, Intel QuickSync, and AMD VCE as examples. Use a hardware option only if OBS offers it on your system and a test shows it works reliably. Otherwise, try the available software encoder, then reduce resolution or frame rate if encoding overload appears.

YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio and recommends stereo at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. Use those values where the OBS audio settings expose them. Listen to the test from YouTube as well as checking OBS’s mixer; this can reveal a muted source or a problem that is not obvious from the local meters alone.

Test before attempting a long broadcast
- Run a test with the same scene, music source, visual loop, resolution, frame rate, encoder, and bitrate you intend to use. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the real broadcast.
- Watch OBS’s status and YouTube’s stream health and messages during the test. Check that the stream connects, the audio remains audible, the image updates as expected, and the upload connection does not repeatedly falter.
- If OBS reports encoding overload, reduce resolution and frame rate first. If that is not enough, lower the encoder preset where available. OBS’s guidance on x264 load is at Streaming with x264.
- Test long enough to expose issues that occur after startup. A successful short test does not prove that the laptop, home power, or internet will remain operational for a full day.
OBS has an automatic reconnect option in its advanced settings, but reconnecting is not an uptime guarantee. A laptop sleep, OBS crash, power interruption, overheating, or ISP outage can still interrupt a local stream.
Understand YouTube archives and 24-hour sessions
YouTube says livestreams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A 24-hour session exceeds that stated automatic-archive condition; the cited guidance does not establish that YouTube will preserve the entire 24-hour broadcast as one replay. If a complete replay matters, plan separate sessions or a separate recording and archiving approach, and verify the current archive behavior for the chosen setup in YouTube’s encoder stream instructions.

When a laptop is the wrong place to host the stream
OBS on a laptop gives you direct control over the scene and encoder, but the stream depends on that laptop and its local connection staying available. YouTube’s encoder documentation also names a cloud studio as an option for 24/7 live video. Before choosing any hosted service, check its current YouTube workflow, operating terms, costs, recovery and monitoring behavior, and how it expects users to handle music rights and archives. A service listing alone does not establish uptime, affordability, or rights compliance.
Or let it run in the cloud

Troubleshooting common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive the OBS stream | The stream key, server selection, or Live Control Room setup is incorrect, or livestreaming is not yet enabled. | Check the key and server against the current YouTube stream setup. If this is the channel’s first stream, allow for YouTube’s stated enablement period of up to 24 hours. |
| OBS reports encoding overload | The selected resolution, frame rate, or encoder settings exceed what the laptop can handle. | Reduce output resolution and frame rate; if needed, lower the encoder preset. Test any available hardware encoder rather than assuming it will be more stable. |
| Stream health is poor or the broadcast drops | The upload connection may not sustain the chosen bitrate, or the local internet connection may be interrupted. | Repeat an upload test, lower bitrate or resolution, and run another real-stream test while watching YouTube’s stream health. Choose settings for reliable sustained upload, not a brief peak. |
| Music is silent, too quiet, or distorted | The wrong audio source may be selected, muted, or clipping at loud passages. | Check the OBS mixer and source routing, then listen to the stream during a test and adjust levels to avoid clipping. |
| The laptop stops streaming after a period of time | The laptop, OBS process, power, cooling, or internet may have failed or entered a low-power state. | Check the laptop’s power and sleep behavior, OBS logs/status, and connection stability. No setting can guarantee continuous operation on an unknown laptop and ISP. |
| The full day is not available as one replay | The session exceeds YouTube’s stated under-12-hour automatic archive condition. | Use a separate recording/archive plan or consider dividing the broadcast into shorter sessions; verify archive behavior for your stream in YouTube’s current guidance. |
