Short answer: The reported Apple HomePad setup flow has not been confirmed by Apple, so there are no verified official setup steps to follow yet. To share Apple Home with someone using another iPhone, invite them in the Home app as a Resident for full access or a Guest for limited, local-only access to selected security accessories.

How do I set up HomePad?

Apple has not published an official HomePad setup guide in the sources available as of October 4, 2026. An October 1, 2026 report by 9to5Mac describes claims from leaker pdfu about a possible setup process. Treat these as unconfirmed, not as instructions from Apple.

According to pdfu, as quoted by 9to5Mac, “Setting up Apple’s upcoming Home device includes a new step: creating a Photo Face.” The report says the Photo Face may also be expected for iPhone Duo StandBy and may require iCloud Photos. It further reports that the device could display selected high-resolution photos while the rest of the photo library downloads. Apple has not confirmed these details in the cited support or developer materials.

Keep this reported Apple hardware separate from HomePad – Smart Home Dashboard, an existing third-party iPad and iPhone app by Quentin Van Eylen. Its App Store listing describes using an iPad as a wall-mounted or tabletop smart-home dashboard, compatible with Apple Home and Home Assistant. That app is not evidence of the rumored hardware’s setup screens or features.

How do I share my Home with another iPhone?

For access to all accessories, invite the person as a Resident in the Home app. To give narrower access to supported security accessories, invite them as a Guest. Apple’s guide describes the following distinctions:

Role What they can access Where they can control it When access applies
Resident All accessories in the home Locally and, optionally, remotely At any time
Guest Selected doors, locks, and security-system accessories Locally only On the schedule chosen by the home owner

Guest access requires iOS 18, iPadOS 18, or later. Apple documents it as a way to share certain security accessories, not as a limited-access option for every device in the home. Details are in Apple’s Home sharing guide.

Do I need a home hub to control my home remotely?

Yes. Remote control requires a home hub, such as Apple TV 4K or HomePod. Apple also says the iPhone and home hub must use the same Apple Account, and Home must be turned on in iCloud on the iPhone. The iOS 26 instructions are Settings > [your name] > iCloud > See All; check that Home is enabled there. See Apple’s remote-control guide for the current steps.

A home hub is also required for remote access when sharing a home, and Guest access remains local-only even when a hub is present. Apple’s sharing guide covers the access roles and hub requirement.
