To get alerts when an Indian university or counselling authority posts an admission notice, monitor the official page that publishes the notices with Distill.io. Select the notice-list area when possible, choose where and how often Distill checks it, and add an alert action such as email. Treat each alert as a prompt to open the official source and verify the notice, not as confirmation that it applies to you.
Choose the right official page first
There is no single page that publishes every Indian university admission notice. Start with the official university, institution, state counselling authority, or national counselling portal for your program and admission cycle. For example, JoSAA’s 2026 counselling portal has news and public notices; the Punjab Department of Higher Education Admission Portal carries UG and PG schedules and guidance; and the Government of India Admissions portal aggregates counselling bodies and notifications.
Choose a page whose notice list changes when a new item is published. If the notice itself is a linked PDF, monitor the listing where its title or link will appear, then open the PDF after an alert. Monitoring a page does not guarantee that every dynamically loaded page element or PDF will be detected.
Set up a monitor in the Distill browser extension
- Open the official notice page in a browser with the Distill extension installed.
- Open Distill from the browser toolbar and choose “Monitor full page” or “Monitor parts of page.”
- Select the notice area if you chose parts-of-page monitoring. Use the visual selector on the notice list, review the selection, and adjust it if it includes menus or unrelated content. Distill saves visual selections as CSS or XPath selectors; its visual selector documentation explains how to edit one.
- Name the monitor and choose its device, schedule, and action, then save it. Check the saved monitor to ensure it is watching the intended area.
Monitoring only the notice list can reduce alerts caused by unrelated page changes, such as rotating banners. It cannot eliminate false positives, and a site redesign may mean the selection needs to be updated.
Set up a monitor in Distill’s web app
- In the web app, click Add monitor, choose Web Page, and enter the official page URL.
- Select the notice-list area or choose Full Page, then save the selection.
- Set the monitor’s actions and schedule and save it.
- Find the monitor in the Watchlist. Open its preview or change history to review what Distill has recorded.

Choose where Distill checks the page
Distill describes a monitor as opening a page on a schedule, reading its HTML, and notifying you when something changes. Where the monitor runs affects whether your own device needs to stay available and which check intervals apply.

Distill says web-app monitors default to cloud, while extension and desktop-app monitors default to local. A local monitor can suit a device that stays on and connected; cloud monitoring can check while your computer is off. If the page needs authentication or cookies, check the available configuration for your monitor rather than assuming it will work in the cloud. Distill’s local-versus-cloud documentation describes the current distinctions; intervals, allowances, and plans can change.

Add email alerts and verify delivery settings
- Sign in to Distill and open the monitor’s options or actions.
- Add Email, select a configured email address, and save.
- If you add another recipient address, complete its verification before relying on it for alerts.

Check alerts and keep the monitor useful
- After setup, review the monitor in the Watchlist and confirm its preview shows the notice area you intended to follow.
- When an alert arrives, go to the original official page. Check the notice date, admission year, program, deadlines, and any linked PDF before acting.
- If alerts begin tracking irrelevant changes, edit the selected elements and review the preview or change history.
- If alerts stop matching after a page redesign, revisit the page and update the selection. Do not assume an old selector still points to the notice list.
An alert indicates a detected page change. It does not authenticate a notice, establish that the notice applies to your course or admission year, or prove that its information is still current. The relevant university or counselling authority’s page and notice are the source to verify.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
The monitor watches the wrong content
Reopen the selection and confirm that the highlighted area is the notice list, not a navigation menu or the entire page. If the page has changed layout, edit or recreate the visual selection and inspect the updated preview.
You do not receive email alerts
Confirm Email is enabled in the monitor’s actions, the intended address is selected, and any additional address has been verified. Also check that the monitor is running on its chosen device and that the page has registered a change in Distill’s preview or history.

Checks do not run when your computer is off
A local monitor depends on the user’s browser or device being available. If you need checks while it is off, review whether a cloud monitor and its plan allowance suit your needs.
A page or PDF change is missed
Check whether the notice list itself changed and whether the selected area still captures it. For a notice distributed as a PDF, monitor the listing that gains the new link and inspect the linked document after an alert; successful detection of every PDF or dynamic page element is not guaranteed.
