To set up AirPods 5, pair them with your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, adjust how they sit in your ears, then choose a Spatial Audio mode if you want it. AirPods 5 have no interchangeable ear tips, so fit comes down to positioning rather than selecting a tip size.
How to pair AirPods 5 with an iPhone or iPad

Turn on Bluetooth in Settings. Apple recommends using the latest iOS or iPadOS version. A network connection may also be needed for Find My features.

Keep AirPods 5 in their charging case, open the lid, and hold the case near your iPhone or iPad.

When the setup animation appears, follow the onscreen instructions and tap Done.

If the setup animation does not appear
With the AirPods inside the open case, hold it near your device and double-tap the front of the case until the status light flashes white. Then open Bluetooth settings on the iPhone or iPad and select AirPods. See Apple’s AirPods pairing instructions.
How to connect AirPods 5 to a Mac

Put AirPods 5 in the case and open its lid near the Mac.

On your Mac, open System Settings > Bluetooth, select AirPods, and connect.

Use AirPods 5 with your other Apple devices
After setup with one Apple device, AirPods can connect automatically to your other Apple devices signed in to the same Apple Account, according to Apple’s pairing guide.
How should AirPods 5 fit?
Apple’s model-specific instruction is to “Gently press AirPods in your ears and rotate toward your face. Your AirPods should feel snug and secure.” That is a positioning guide, not a guarantee of an individual fit; comfort and security can vary from person to person. Apple’s AirPods 5 fit guidance does not describe a sizing system.

Do not look for an Ear Tip Fit Test or Acoustic Seal Test for AirPods 5. Apple’s instructions for those tests apply to AirPods Pro models, not AirPods 5; see Apple’s AirPods Pro ear-tip guide.

AirPods 5 support Spatial Audio and head tracking for supported music, shows, movies, games, and FaceTime calls. On iPhone or iPad, wear your connected AirPods, open Control Center, touch and hold the volume control, tap Spatial Audio, and select a mode:

| Fixed | Keeps Spatial Audio on without head tracking. | You want the spatial effect without sound following head movement. |

Apple says the selection is saved per app, and Spatial Audio is not available for every app or item of content. If the control is unavailable or the effect is absent, the app or content may not support it. Details are in Apple’s Spatial Audio and head-tracking guide.
Set up Personalized Spatial Audio (optional)
Personalized Spatial Audio makes a profile to customize the effect. Apple requires an iPhone X or later running iOS 16 or later, with a TrueDepth camera. With AirPods connected, open AirPods settings, choose Personalized Spatial Audio, tap Personalize Spatial Audio, and follow the capture prompts. Apple says the profile syncs to supported Apple devices signed in to the same Apple Account. See the Apple setup instructions.
