You can build a YouTube Live rerun channel around Indian mobile gameplay by streaming from the YouTube app or by sending gameplay through an encoder, then checking that YouTube saves the finished stream as a public video. A rerun channel is an editorial format—not a YouTube feature that automatically replays old streams or guarantees monetization. Before planning a broadcast, meet YouTube’s mobile live requirements, choose a workflow your phone and connection can sustain, and make each upload distinctive and properly licensed.

What a YouTube Live rerun channel is—and is not

A rerun channel publishes gameplay as live sessions, then may keep those sessions available as video on demand (VOD). You can use a live session to give viewers a scheduled event and retain the resulting archive, but YouTube does not automatically turn a channel into a continuous rerun service. You must start each broadcast or arrange a separate streaming workflow.

Going live and qualifying for monetization are separate matters. A channel can meet the live-stream requirements without meeting the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) requirements, and passing a subscriber threshold does not guarantee that a particular stream’s archive will be public.

Check mobile live eligibility before setting up

YouTube’s mobile live-stream requirements apply in India as elsewhere; there is no India-specific exemption. YouTube’s current guidance requires a channel to have at least 50 subscribers, be verified, have live streaming enabled, and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. The phone must run Android 8.0 or later or iOS 8 or later. The minimum age to live stream is 16. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the day you plan to broadcast. See YouTube’s mobile live-streaming requirements and getting started with live streaming.

  • Check the phone’s operating system version and test the actual game, audio routing, and internet connection.
  • Follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service for all live content.

If you have more than 50 but fewer than 1,000 subscribers, YouTube may limit the audience for a mobile live stream and set its archive to private by default. After the channel passes 1,000 subscribers, the audience restriction may take weeks to clear. Check the archive’s visibility rather than assuming the replay is public. YouTube’s mobile live guidance describes these limits.

Choose a phone-only stream or an encoder workflow

Workflow Best fit Overlays and audio Scheduling Extra setup
YouTube app on the phone A straightforward broadcast directly from a supported phone Fewer production controls than a dedicated encoder setup Create or schedule the stream in the app where available No separate encoder; test the phone, game, and connection
Encoder Gameplay with overlays, external audio hardware, or more production control Supports encoder-based overlays and audio hardware; exact options depend on the encoder and equipment Schedule in YouTube Live Control Room, then connect the encoder Encoder software or hardware, a computer or compatible setup, and a tested audio/video signal

YouTube identifies encoders as a common option for gaming broadcasts where creators want overlays or audio hardware. Neither method guarantees a particular picture quality or compatibility with every phone, game, carrier, or app version. Test the setup you intend to use. For encoder setup, see YouTube’s encoder live-streaming instructions.

Set up a direct mobile stream in the YouTube app

  1. Prepare the channel: complete verification, enable live streaming, and wait for activation if this is your first broadcast. Confirm eligibility before proceeding.
  2. Open the live flow: in the YouTube app, tap Create > Live. Set a clear title and description, choose visibility, select the audience setting, and choose whether to start now or schedule the session. YouTube’s mobile live guide covers creating and scheduling from the app; labels may vary by app version.
  3. Identify the session: name the game and make clear that the video is gameplay, a replay, or a rerun where relevant. Avoid a title or thumbnail that implies a live tournament or event that is not actually happening.
  4. Check sound and framing: confirm the game audio is audible and that any spoken commentary is routed as intended. An optional wired USB-C earbud or microphone may help, but compatibility depends on the phone and game; commentary is not required for silent gameplay.
  5. Test before sharing: review the live preview and confirm the intended visibility, title, audience setting, and audio. Do not rely on an untested phone or network for a long session.
  6. Start the stream: begin from the app and monitor the broadcast. If you scheduled it, share the watch-page link in advance; scheduled streams may appear as upcoming in subscribers’ feeds, where viewers can select “Notify me.”

For channels below 1,000 subscribers, pay particular attention to the eventual archive’s visibility: the mobile stream archive may default to private. Eligibility and archive restrictions are described in YouTube’s mobile live requirements.

Set up an encoder stream for overlays or audio hardware

  1. Schedule or create the event: open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream. Set the title, description, visibility, audience setting, and planned timing.
  2. Copy the connection details: copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the event into the matching fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not post it or include it in a screen recording.
  3. Configure the source: capture the mobile gameplay using the phone-to-encoder method supported by your equipment. Add overlays and audio sources only after checking that game audio, microphone audio, and any other source are balanced and routed correctly.
  4. Preview the feed: start the encoder’s preview or send the feed for YouTube’s preview step. Check image, sound, and event details before going live.
  5. Start the broadcast: once the preview is correct, start the stream from the encoder as directed by the workflow. Confirm that Live Control Room shows the event live, then monitor it during the session.
  6. Schedule with notice: publish the scheduled watch-page link early enough for viewers to find the event and opt into reminders. YouTube says scheduled streams may appear as upcoming in subscribers’ feeds. The exact interface depends on YouTube’s current Live Control Room and encoder workflow; see YouTube’s encoder instructions and its guidance for scheduling live streams.

When reusing a previous stream’s settings, review the title, game, date, visibility, stream key, and rights every time. Reuse can carry over metadata and the key. If you believe the key has been exposed, reset it in YouTube’s live settings and update the encoder before the next broadcast. YouTube’s encoder guidance explains stream connection details.

Make sure the live session becomes a usable VOD

YouTube can automatically archive live streams shorter than 12 hours, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as a backup. If you need a dependable replay, record locally—especially for a session that might approach or exceed 12 hours. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

  1. End the stream cleanly rather than leaving the encoder or app running unintentionally.
  2. Open YouTube Studio’s Content > Live area and locate the finished stream.
  3. Check the archived video’s visibility. If the intended VOD should be public, change its visibility to public where available; do not assume an archive is public by default.
  4. Organize finished sessions and highlight clips into playlists so viewers can find a game or series.
  5. Keep the local recording until you have confirmed the archive is present and usable.

A live archive is convenient, but an uploaded edited VOD gives you more control over trimming and packaging before publication. For either format, public visibility matters if you hope the video to count toward qualified public watch hours: unlisted or deleted videos, and livestreams that are not converted to VOD, do not count toward that YPP watch-hour threshold. YouTube’s YPP overview explains qualifying watch hours.

Make reruns original, rights-cleared, and policy-aware

Simply repeating raw gameplay is not a reliable monetization strategy. YouTube reviews reused content at the channel level and describes repetitive or mass-produced material as “inauthentic content.” Its July 15, 2025 update clarified that terminology; YouTube said it was a clarification, not a change to the reused-content policy. Replaying your own earlier gameplay does not automatically violate policy, but it also does not automatically make a channel eligible for monetization. Add clear original value across the channel—for example, creator commentary, thoughtful editing, tutorial context, or a distinctive recurring format. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Rights clearance is a separate issue from reused-content review. You need the rights required for both the live broadcast and its archived material, including game footage and music where applicable. A game being available on a phone, or a feature being available in India, does not establish permission to stream every game or soundtrack. YouTube requires live content to comply with its rules and terms; read the YouTube Terms of Service and check the rights relevant to the particular game and audio.

Understand the monetization thresholds

Live access alone does not qualify a channel for YPP. YouTube’s current full ad-revenue route requires 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the previous 12 months or 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the previous 90 days, followed by channel review. These are alternative watch-time routes, not a guarantee of approval. Verify current eligibility in YouTube Studio and consult YouTube’s YPP overview.

For eligible, monetized live streams, YouTube lists ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and memberships as potential earning features where available and eligible. Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. A repeated stream’s ability to attract viewers does not change the need to meet YPP thresholds, pass review, follow monetization rules, and secure rights.

Troubleshoot common rerun-channel problems

  • The app does not offer Live: check verification, live-stream enablement, subscriber eligibility, the last 90 days of channel restrictions, and the phone OS. If live streaming was just enabled for the first time, activation may take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s mobile requirements.
  • The mobile audience is restricted: if the channel has more than 50 but fewer than 1,000 subscribers, YouTube may limit the audience. After reaching 1,000, the restriction may take weeks to clear; it may not lift immediately. YouTube’s guidance describes the restriction.
  • The replay is private: inspect the archive’s visibility in YouTube Studio. Mobile archives for channels under 1,000 subscribers may default to private; make the VOD public if that is the intended outcome and the setting is available.
  • No archive appears: check whether processing is still underway and whether the stream exceeded 12 hours. Longer sessions may not be captured, which is why a local recording matters. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
  • The encoder does not connect: verify that the correct stream URL and key are in the encoder, that the event is the one you scheduled, and that the encoder is sending a feed. If the key may be compromised, reset it and replace the stored value.
  • Game audio or commentary is missing: check the phone’s game audio behavior, capture route, microphone permission, encoder input selection, and monitoring levels. Audio routing varies by phone and game, so test with the exact setup before a scheduled stream.
  • Viewers cannot find the scheduled stream: confirm the event’s visibility and schedule, then share its watch-page link. Scheduled streams may appear as upcoming in subscriber feeds, and viewers can select “Notify me.”
  • A rerun is not progressing toward monetization: check that the channel meets the current YPP route, that eligible streams become public VODs, and that the channel adds meaningful original contribution rather than relying on repetitive uploads. Rights and YPP review are separate requirements.
