You can broadcast a church playlist continuously on YouTube by sending a looping video-and-audio feed from an encoder to YouTube Live. Before you configure it, confirm that the church has the rights to stream each song recording worldwide and to keep any resulting archive. Ordinary worship or playback permissions may not cover a YouTube broadcast. After that gate, prepare a visual, enable YouTube Live, connect an encoder with the channel’s stream key, test the feed, and plan how to handle interruptions and stream restarts.
1. Confirm music and visual rights before you stream
Make a track-by-track inventory of the playlist. For each song, note the specific recording or version, its owner or label, and whether the church’s permission covers both a live YouTube broadcast and any archived replay. Ask the church’s licensing administrator and the relevant rights holders about the permissions needed in the territories where the stream may be viewed. Also ask whether the channel must be added to the rights holder’s Content ID allowlist.
YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility on the content provider to obtain the necessary rights for exploitation of live content on Google services worldwide, including music rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. That contractual allocation does not determine which licenses apply to a particular church or country; have the church verify its situation before going live. YouTube Terms of Service
Do not assume that a song is free to rebroadcast because it is religious, because the church performs it in person, or because the church can access the recording. A consumer music-streaming subscription also does not, by itself, establish rebroadcast rights. The rights status of this playlist cannot be determined without its song, recording, territory, and permission details.

Check the visuals too
A live stream needs a video feed even if music is its focus. Use a church-created still image or simple motion background with suitable church and playlist information. Confirm that the church has permission to use every image, font, logo, lyric, and other visual element. Do not use someone else’s lyric video, music video, or artwork without permission.
2. Choose how to keep the playlist running
YouTube Live accepts feeds from encoder software or standalone hardware. A dedicated hardware encoder is optional, not a basic requirement. For a prerecorded playlist with a static or looping visual, software is a reasonable starting point if it can loop the media reliably and keep a stable connection. Choose hardware if the church specifically wants a dedicated appliance for its installation; check compatibility with the chosen setup before buying.
YouTube’s encoder guidance also names cloud services as examples for continuous prerecorded-video or live-video workflows. That is not an endorsement or a guarantee of any provider’s current features. Before choosing a managed service, verify that it can loop this playlist, recover from interruptions, protect the stream key, support any needed rights-holder allowlisting, and fit the church’s duration and archive plan. 3. Enable YouTube Live and create the broadcast
- Sign in to the church’s channel and open YouTube Studio.
- Select Create > Go Live to open the Live Control Room. Create a stream or schedule it for later. Scheduling can make a watch page available to share in advance.
- If this is the channel’s first time enabling live streaming, allow for activation to take up to 24 hours, as YouTube Help says it may take that long.
- In the Live Control Room, locate the stream’s server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to the stream.
Labels and available controls can vary with YouTube’s current interface and the channel’s access. Follow the Live Control Room prompts if they differ from these steps. YouTube Help: Live encoder settings and workflows
4. Configure the encoder and connect the playlist
- In the encoder, select the playlist and its visual loop. Check that the music and picture play together and that the playlist is configured to repeat if continuous playback is intended.
- Choose YouTube as the destination and enter the server URL and stream key from the Live Control Room. Do not share the key publicly or place it in a public document.
- Use a supported video and audio configuration. YouTube lists H.264 video with AAC or MP3 audio among its encoder settings and recommends constant bitrate (CBR). For H.264 at 1080p/30 fps, YouTube’s listed recommended video bitrate is 5 Mbps. A music-led stream may use a lower-resolution visual to reduce network demand, but test the actual picture and sound rather than assuming a setting will look or play well.
- Start the encoder so YouTube can receive the feed. Check the Live Control Room preview before making the scheduled stream public or clicking Go Live, if that workflow requires a separate confirmation.
For YouTube’s current encoder options and recommendations, see Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
5. Test the stream and network before launch
Test with representative music, visuals, and motion—not just a silent still. YouTube recommends roughly 20% spare upload capacity above the bitrate being sent. For example, if the stream sends 5 Mbps, plan for about 6 Mbps of available upload capacity as headroom; this is an application of YouTube’s recommendation, not a guarantee that the connection will be stable. - Watch the Live Control Room preview and check its stream-health indicator.
- Open the audience-facing watch page on a separate device and confirm that the picture appears and the sound is audible.
- Listen for clipping, silence, unexpected gaps, or an incorrect audio source; watch for a frozen image or a visual that does not loop as expected.
- Confirm that the encoder remains connected and that the church’s internet connection has upload headroom during the hours the stream is expected to run.
- Check the Live Control Room and watch for copyright notices or other warnings before and during the broadcast.
6. Go live, monitor, and plan for restarts
Once the preview and audience-facing page look and sound right, start the broadcast using the Live Control Room workflow. Monitor the video, audio, stream health, and copyright status rather than treating the initial connection as proof that the stream will remain uninterrupted.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsYouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content. A match may replace the feed with a placeholder, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. Even when the church has a license, YouTube says the rights holder may need to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist for the live stream to proceed without interruption. Resolve allowlisting with the rights holder before launch; do not assume a license automatically prevents an automated interruption. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams
“Continuous” needs a practical duration plan. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a single stream will run indefinitely or that one archive will cover a broadcast longer than that. Plan a controlled stop and restart cadence, tell viewers when a transition is expected, and check the channel’s current Live Control Room guidance for duration and archive behavior before launch. 7. Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start a first live broadcast | Live streaming may not yet be enabled for the channel. | Complete YouTube’s live-stream setup and allow up to 24 hours for first-time enablement, as described by YouTube Help. Check the channel’s Live Control Room for its current status. |
| YouTube does not receive the encoder feed | The server URL or stream key may be missing or incorrect, or the encoder may not be sending. | Compare the encoder destination with the URL and key shown for the selected stream in the Live Control Room. Keep the key private. |
| The feed drops or looks unstable | The upload connection may lack headroom or fluctuate under load. | Check available upload capacity and leave about 20% above the outgoing bitrate, as YouTube recommends. Test again with the actual encoder and media. |
| The stream preview has no sound or the wrong picture | The encoder may be routing the wrong playlist, audio source, or visual. | Check the playlist selection and audio/video routing in the encoder, then verify both in the Live Control Room preview and on a separate device. |
| YouTube interrupts the stream after a copyright match | A third-party recording may have matched Content ID; a rights holder may not have allowlisted the channel. | Pause the broadcast if needed and contact the relevant rights holder about the match and channel allowlisting. Confirm that permissions cover the live broadcast and archive before restarting. |
| A long broadcast does not produce the expected archive | The stream may have exceeded YouTube’s stated under-12-hour automatic-archive window. | Use a planned stop/restart schedule and verify current archive behavior in the channel’s Live Control Room. |
