To run a continuous YouTube stream for a Christian radio ministry, first enable live streaming on a verified, eligible YouTube channel; confirm that you have rights to every song and recording in the playlist; then connect a software or hardware encoder to a stream created in YouTube Studio. Test the audio, visual, connection, and recovery plan before promoting the stream. A church-service music license should not be assumed to cover a continuous radio playlist, and YouTube may interrupt a licensed stream if rights holders have not allowlisted the channel in Content ID.
How do I set up a continuous YouTube stream?
1. Make sure the channel is eligible
Verify the YouTube channel and check that it has no live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days. YouTube says first-time live-streaming enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do this well before the planned launch. Its eligibility guidance also says users must be at least 16 to live stream. 2. Choose the picture and audio source
YouTube needs a video signal even if the ministry is primarily an audio station. Use a stable visual such as station branding, program information, or a presenter view, and route the intended radio audio feed into the encoder. You can use encoder software on a computer or a standalone hardware encoder; YouTube’s general setup instructions do not require a particular brand or model.

Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.

Create a stream, or schedule one if you want a watch page to promote in advance. Set the title, description, visibility, and other metadata for the ministry’s intended audience.

Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the stream. Scheduling gives you a shareable URL and lets viewers set reminders, according to YouTube’s instructions.
4. Connect the encoder and go live

In the encoder, choose YouTube as the destination if it is available. Otherwise, paste YouTube’s stream URL into the encoder’s server field and the stream key into its key field.

Start sending the encoder feed to YouTube. Keep the stream key private: anyone who has it may be able to send video to the stream.

Wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room. Confirm that the expected picture and audio are present, then use the go-live action required by the selected YouTube workflow.

5. Test before announcing a permanent service
Check that speech and music are audible without clipping, that silence is handled as intended, and that text in the visual is legible on a phone-sized screen. Test the actual internet connection and rehearse what happens after a network interruption or power loss. These are operational checks for the ministry to perform; the YouTube setup instructions explain connecting and previewing a feed but do not certify a particular installation for unattended operation.
Can I stream Christian radio music on YouTube?
Only when the ministry has rights for the particular music, recordings, use, platform, and territory. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. It says a matched stream may show a placeholder and, if the content continues, may be temporarily interrupted or terminated. YouTube also warns that even a licensed third-party stream can be interrupted unless the rights owner has added the channel to its Content ID allowlist. That distinction matters for a continuous radio playlist: having permission or a license does not itself ensure uninterrupted streaming if the relevant rights holder has not allowlisted the channel. Contact the rights owner or licensing provider about Content ID handling before launch.
Does a worship-service streaming license cover a continuous radio playlist?
Do not assume it does. CCLI’s US pages describe its Streaming License as covering authorized worship songs and hymns performed live. CCLI describes Streaming Plus as extending coverage to authorized master recordings, artist tracks, backing tracks, and multitracks. Those descriptions do not establish that a particular continuous radio playlist is covered. Confirm each song and recording, the type of use, platform, and territory with the provider and any relevant rights holders. CCLI’s US page claims a catalog of more than 450,000 songs; CCLI does not state a publication year for that figure on the page. The catalog claim is not proof that a specific track or recording is included. If your ministry is outside the United States, check the applicable territory rather than applying US license descriptions to your use. This is a practical rights check, not a legal determination.

Encoder choice
Compare software on a computer you already own with a dedicated hardware encoder by considering total cost, audio input and routing, support for YouTube’s required output protocol, unattended restart and remote monitoring, recovery after internet or power loss, and whether the manufacturer documents continuous operation. YouTube supports both software and standalone hardware encoders, but its general instructions do not establish that any particular model is reliable for 24/7 use.
Recovery and archives
Decide who will notice an interruption and how the feed will be restarted after a network, power, or encoder failure. YouTube says live streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume one longer continuous session will produce a complete recording; if a complete archive matters, plan and verify that separately, and check YouTube’s current behavior for long sessions.
