You can loop recorded Methodist sermons into a continuous YouTube Live stream with FFmpeg by creating a stream in YouTube Studio, using its current RTMPS address and private stream key, then running FFmpeg on a computer or server that stays powered and connected. The example below starts with a single video at 720p30. Treat it as a starting configuration: test your files, connection, and stream before leaving it unattended.
A 24/7 broadcast is not a dependable archive. YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, and DVR rewind can be limited or unavailable on streams over 12 hours. Keep local recordings and publish individual sermons separately if lasting, searchable access matters.
Before you start
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. Verify the channel and check that it has no live-streaming restrictions from the previous 90 days. First-time live-streaming activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- A computer or server with FFmpeg installed, sufficient processing capacity, stable power, and a reliable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the stream.
- Recorded sermon files you have the right to broadcast, including rights to any music, images, or other material they contain.
- A plan to retain local recordings if you need complete archives or reliable on-demand access.
Check sermon files and rights
Organize the recordings and decide whether to loop one sermon, a prepared block, or a playlist. Before streaming, check that speech is intelligible and that the on-screen image—such as a title card or church branding—is intentional. These are production choices, not YouTube requirements.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →You must have the necessary rights to broadcast every element. YouTube’s livestream terms say the broadcaster represents and warrants that they have the necessary rights for the live content, including applicable music licensing rights. The terms also apply to archived content. YouTube scans live streams for third-party copyrighted content; it may replace the stream with a placeholder image, interrupt it, or terminate it. If you have a license for third-party content, YouTube says to ask the owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist: a license alone may not prevent interruptions.

Create a YouTube Live stream and get its RTMPS details
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live.
- Create a stream or schedule one in Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key for that specific stream. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream.
- Use the current RTMPS address shown in Live Control Room. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the RTMP connection. The ordinary RTMP address may be displayed by default, so confirm you have selected or copied the RTMPS URL. See YouTube’s RTMPS instructions.
Do not paste a real stream key into a public script, screenshot, or shared document. The address and key must match the stream you created.
Choose a starting encoder profile
YouTube’s published encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265, or AV1 video; constant bitrate (CBR); AAC or MP3 audio; and a recommended keyframe interval of two seconds, not exceeding four seconds. For a simple sermon stream, 720p at 30 frames per second is a conservative starting point. YouTube recommends 3 Mbps video bitrate for H.264 at that resolution and frame rate. These are platform recommendations, not a promise that a connection will remain stable. Check YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for current guidance.

Run FFmpeg to loop one sermon
The following is a conceptual starting command for one file, not a tested recipe for every FFmpeg build or source file. Replace the placeholders with the current RTMPS URL and key from Live Control Room. Confirm your installed FFmpeg has the required encoder and options, and validate the stream in Live Control Room before relying on it.
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "sermon.mp4"
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 3M -maxrate 3M -bufsize 6M
-r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "<current-YouTube-RTMPS-URL>/<STREAM-KEY>"-rereads the input at approximately its native playback rate rather than sending it as fast as possible.-stream_loop -1requests an indefinite loop of the input.-i "sermon.mp4"identifies the local video file.-c:v libx264selects H.264 encoding;-b:v,-maxrate, and-bufsizeset the video rate-control values in this example.-r 30sets the output frame rate;-g 60and-keyint_min 60set a 60-frame GOP at 30 fps, or two seconds.-sc_threshold 0disables scene-cut keyframes in this example.-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100selects AAC audio with the example bitrate and sample rate.-f flvuses the RTMP-family publishing container expected by this output workflow.
The command does not explicitly scale the source. If your file is not 720p, has an unusual frame rate or audio layout, or has incompatible timestamps, you may need to adapt it. FFmpeg’s protocol documentation covers RTMP-family protocols, including RTMPS; consult the documentation for your installed version when adjusting options.

Looping a collection of sermons
A playlist is not automatically seamless just because it contains video files. The safest approach depends on whether the files share codecs, dimensions, frame rates, audio layouts, and compatible timestamps. Prepare and test the playlist or concatenated program with the actual files before broadcasting; do not assume mismatched recordings will switch cleanly or run indefinitely without intervention.
Keep a self-managed stream running
For unattended operation, run FFmpeg on a host that stays on and connected. A service manager or process supervisor can restart the process after a reboot or crash, but it does not replace monitoring: check the process and YouTube’s stream health. Test your restart procedure, and store the stream key in a protected configuration or environment rather than a shared script. Continuous operation still depends on the host, power, network, and encoder working correctly.

Plan separately for live access and sermon archives
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as a backup. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

| Format | What it suits | Important trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Continuous 24/7 stream | An always-available live channel for listeners who want to tune in without waiting for a scheduled session. | Streams over 12 hours may not be archived, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable. |
| Shorter live sessions with local recordings | Scheduled live listening with a local backup for later use. | Requires managing session boundaries and retaining the local files. |
| Separate sermon uploads | Finding and replaying a specific sermon on demand. | Does not provide one continuously live channel by itself. |
If the complete sermon archive matters, retain the original files and publish individual sermons separately or make shorter live sessions while recording locally. A local recording backup can be stored on a drive sized for your bitrate, recording duration, and retention needs; YouTube does not prescribe a particular drive or capacity.
Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not accept the stream or shows no incoming video. | Wrong stream URL or key, mismatched stream details, or an inactive livestream setup. | Copy the current RTMPS URL and key from the correct Live Control Room stream. Confirm the channel is eligible and that first-time activation has completed. |
| FFmpeg reports that an encoder or option is unavailable. | The installed build may not include the requested encoder or may differ in supported options. | Check the installed FFmpeg build and its documentation; use a build that supports the selected encoder, then test again. |
| Stream health is poor or the broadcast disconnects. | Insufficient or variable upload capacity, host load, or instability in power or network service. | Test upload capacity with other network use considered, leave headroom, inspect YouTube stream health, and check host and network stability. |
| The stream starts but the image, sound, or transitions are wrong. | Source properties or timestamps may not fit the chosen output profile, or files in a playlist may not match. | Test each source and the full playlist; adjust encoding or filters as needed before unattended use. |
| The live broadcast is interrupted after a copyright scan. | A third-party element may be detected, even when you believe it is licensed. | Review the rights for all included material. For licensed third-party content, ask the owner to add the channel to their Content ID allowlist. |
| The 24/7 stream is missing as a complete replay or cannot be rewound far enough. | YouTube’s archive and DVR limits for streams over 12 hours. | Keep local recordings and use shorter sessions or separate sermon uploads when a durable, navigable archive is required. |

Your upload streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than quality-based tiers.
Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery, and StreamNeo team support. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month; other billing lengths are also available, with the same product and features.
