You can run a Marathi music radio-style YouTube Live stream with OBS by clearing the music rights first, enabling livestreaming on your channel, connecting OBS to YouTube’s Live Control Room, and keeping the encoder, internet connection, and power available. The rights check is essential: YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, and even a licensed track can be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel in Content ID.

Before setup: confirm you can broadcast the music

Make a rights inventory for every recording and composition in the playlist. For each one, identify the relevant rights holders or administrators, the territories where the stream may be viewed, whether your permissions cover live streaming, and whether they also allow an archived replay. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility for necessary rights on the provider, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants, as well as applicable territorial requirements.

A song being available on a streaming service, credited in the description, or labelled “copyright-free” does not by itself establish that you may broadcast it live. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can result in a placeholder over the broadcast, a warning to stop using the content, a temporary interruption, termination, or termination after a strike. A license alone may not prevent interruption: YouTube says a licensed track can still be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel in Content ID. Ask the relevant label, distributor, publisher, or rights owner to confirm both the permissions and allowlisting before launch.

The general platform terms do not determine the exact Indian licensing or collecting-society obligations for a particular Marathi catalog. Confirm those requirements with the relevant rights holders or qualified local counsel; do not assume a permission for one territory or use also covers another.

Enable livestreaming on the channel

  1. Verify the channel. YouTube requires channel verification to enable livestreaming.
  2. Check channel status. The channel must not have a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
  3. Allow time for first-time enablement. YouTube says enabling livestreaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours. Complete this step before your planned launch.
  4. Check the age requirement. YouTube’s current guidance says livestreamers must be at least 16.

Create a YouTube broadcast and connect OBS

  1. Open YouTube Studio and enter the Live Control Room. Create a stream or schedule one, then choose the encoder route.
  2. Copy the stream connection details. In the Live Control Room, locate the server or stream URL and stream key provided for the broadcast.
  3. Set OBS to use YouTube as the streaming service. Open OBS stream settings, select the YouTube service or enter the server URL and stream key as the encoder setup requires, and enter the details copied from the Live Control Room. OBS is the encoder; YouTube receives the video and audio it sends.
  4. Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password. Do not publish it, show it in a screen recording, or send it to someone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel.
  5. Start the encoder and check the preview. YouTube creates the watch page when the encoder starts sending. For a scheduled stream, wait for the preview in the Live Control Room, check it, and then select Go live there.

OBS’s interface can change, so use the current OBS Project Knowledge Base or Help Portal for OBS-specific setup and troubleshooting rather than relying on old interface instructions. The supplied information does not establish one universal OBS playlist-loop configuration. Confirm the behavior of your chosen media source and playlist arrangement in the current OBS documentation, and test the full sequence before making the channel public.

Choose stream settings that your connection can sustain

For a radio-style channel with a static image, standard SDR video is a reasonable starting point. Set the output to a resolution and frame rate your upload can sustain; a higher setting is not useful if the connection cannot carry it consistently. YouTube’s figures below are ingest recommendations, not a guarantee of the quality every network will deliver.

Setting YouTube guidance Practical setup note
Ingest protocol RTMP or RTMPS; YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the connection to Google’s servers. Use the YouTube service or recommended protocol option in OBS when available.
Video codec H.264, H.265, or AV1 are listed for RTMP/RTMPS. H.264 is a straightforward starting point when compatibility is the priority.
Audio codec and bitrate AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS; 128 Kbps stereo is recommended. Check that the actual program audio is audible and not clipped. A bitrate setting does not grant music rights.
Video bitrate Recommended H.264 ingest bitrate: 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps; 3 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps. Choose the resolution and bitrate together, then test on the actual connection.
Keyframe interval Two seconds recommended; do not exceed four seconds. Set the interval explicitly if OBS does not inherit it from the selected service.
Frame rate Up to 60 fps is listed. A static-image music stream may not need a higher frame rate; stability and sustained upload matter more.
Upload capacity YouTube recommends upload bandwidth at least equal to the total stream bitrate plus 20% headroom. Measure upload rather than download speed, leave room for variation, and account for other users sharing the connection.

Test the show before making it public

  1. Use a private or unlisted test. Send the same audio and visual assets you intend to use in the real broadcast.
  2. Inspect the Live Control Room preview. Confirm that video arrives, the picture is correct, and the stream reports healthy status.
  3. Listen on another device. Check that the music is audible, at a sensible level, and not clipping. Verify the watch page from a separate device rather than relying only on the OBS preview.
  4. Test the playlist handoff. Let the current item end and confirm that the next item starts as intended. If you use a playlist, verify its repeat behavior and what happens if a file is missing or cannot play.
  5. Watch stream health while testing. YouTube recommends testing before streaming and continuously monitoring audio and video quality.

Keep a local OBS stream running reliably

A local 24/7 broadcast depends on the computer running OBS, its power, and a stable outbound internet connection. A shared network can reduce available bandwidth. YouTube recommends enough upload capacity for the full stream bitrate plus 20% headroom, but the recommendation does not guarantee that a particular home connection will remain stable around the clock.

  • Decide who will notice a dropped stream and restart OBS or the broadcast, including overnight and on weekends.
  • Test the computer, network, and media sequence for the periods you expect to leave it unattended.
  • Keep a local recording backup if you need an archive, and check that the recording file continues to grow during a long session.
  • Plan how you will restore the broadcast after a power, network, encoder, or YouTube interruption. The platform guidance supports testing, monitoring, and a reliable connection; it does not prescribe a particular auto-restart tool or guarantee an unattended 24/7 workflow.

Choose between one continuous session and replay-friendly segments

Continuous listening and a complete YouTube replay are different goals. YouTube may automatically archive streams under 12 hours, but warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If retaining a replay matters, schedule broadcast segments shorter than 12 hours, verify that each archive is available, and keep a local recording backup. If uninterrupted listening matters more, account for the possibility that a long session will not produce a complete automatic archive.

Troubleshoot common setup problems

Symptom Likely cause What to check or do
Livestreaming is not available yet The channel has not completed verification, has a recent live restriction, or first-time enablement is still processing. Check channel verification and restrictions, confirm the age requirement, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time enablement.
YouTube receives no signal from OBS The encoder is not sending, or its stream URL or key does not match the broadcast in the Live Control Room. Check OBS’s selected service and connection details against the active stream. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update OBS.
Preview is delayed or the stream will not start The encoder may not yet be sending successfully, or the connection may be unstable. Confirm OBS is actively streaming, inspect the Live Control Room preview and health status, then check the outbound connection and available upload headroom.
Audio is missing, too quiet, or distorted The audio source, codec, level, or media playback may not be configured as intended. Test the actual program audio on another device; confirm it is audible and not clipped, and check the OBS audio source and output settings.
A song triggers a warning or the live broadcast is interrupted YouTube detected third-party content; a license may not cover live use or the rights owner may not have allowlisted the channel in Content ID. Stop using the affected track until the rights holder confirms the necessary permissions and allowlisting. Do not assume a credit or a general copyright-free label resolves the issue.
The broadcast drops during unattended operation Power, the computer, the encoder, or the internet connection may have failed; shared upload capacity can also fluctuate. Identify who will receive or notice the interruption, check the encoder and connection, and restart the stream after confirming the content and settings are ready.
A long stream has no complete replay Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured automatically. Use shorter scheduled segments if you need YouTube replays, and record locally as a backup.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo offers automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream; any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps streams as made, with no re-encode and one flat price per slot. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. One slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, and support from the StreamNeo team.
